The "We" Factor...
Have you ever gone out and met someone and there was this little "ding ding" bell that was in your head going "Something just isn't right". Well, that's what happened to me last weekend. While Bec & I were running into long lost buddies at one of our old haunts, I wound up meeting a clean cut, handsome guy that we'll call, BarBoy.
BarBoy was handsome, tall, ex military, Italian looking and, from all appearances, met my normal checklist, however the more he talked, the more I wanted to send him and his grapefruit & vodka into oblivion (Sidenote: What guy drinks grapefruit juice and vodka??). BarBoy had an 8 year old daughter from a previous relationship. Great. He tried to tell me that he was a hockey player. I have no doubt that he was, however he tried to imply he played for a major paying league when, in fact, it was more of after work social thing. Good for him - he has interests outside of work. Doesn't count against him but was he upfront that he worked a day job, nope. Bec had to drag that out of him like a dentist dragging out a cavity. The conversations were interesting, however again the faint "Ding ding ding" was getting louder and louder.
While he attempted to ply both me and Bec with drinks throughout the evening, the bartender was so kind to swap out my drink out for Diet Coke w/ lime. I was the designated driver, plus there was no way I was going to go home with BarBoy, nor give him the idea that he would even stand a chance. Through his sweet nothings and his promises to "come to Orlando", "make breakfast", "sleep on the couch", I heard "bullshit, bullshit, bullshit". Buddy, I wasn't born yesterday and, I can play the game as well as him. So, who the hell is HE trying to kid?
Plus, like that guy from S&TC, BarBoy had a fond penchant for using the term "We". WE weren't dating, nor were we together. So since when did he and I become a WE? Like I told him repeatedly, "I just met you". I forgot that Western Mass boys are quick to jump on the relationship wagon the minute they meet a girl. Well, that description is definitely not me. I've had a couple really bad relationships, two of those with Western Mass guys so I'm already on alert. Don't get me wrong, I was far from mean and actually quite cordial, but when I tell a guy to STOP rubbing my left shoulder, that does not give him license to rub and squeeze said shoulder. Nor does it give him license to try to slip his hand up my blouse under the bar. Hello! Ummm... no thanks. Nor does it mean that he can assume that I was getting the lowdown on him when I talked to another friend of mine, Chrissy - far from it because I was trying to hook her up with a friend of mine.
Finally, the kicker of the evening was him trying to get all into my personal life, with us just meeting a mere 2 hours before. Bec will attest, no matter where we go, I make a point to talk to the DJs that way I can make sure that my clients' materials are always sent to the right guys. When I left BarBoy for 10 minutes (at the most!) to go talk to the DJ, BarBoy decided to pout and whine because he didn't get his way. Is he a 38 year old man or a 8 year old boy? I know a couple youngins that act WAY better than that. I don't fall for the pouting of the lower lip and acting hurt. WE were not together all night, nor were WE on a date. WE just met. That's as far of a WE as I will agree to.
Here's the final outcome - BarBoy, while good looking and somewhat pleasant, got increasing annoying as the night wore on. I could tell there were a lot of similarities with him to many of the bar jerks I have encountered in my life and I wrote it off as a good story to laugh about. Any initial interest was gone by the end of the evening. If I wanted a hook-up, sure, I might have entertained the idea but in today's day and age, a gal can't be too careful.
Not to mention, Bec tells me the other night that BarBoy called her from a Donut Shop rather than call me directly asking questions about my trip. This raised a bunch of other flags, i.e. What, BarBoy can't call and leave his number? BarBoy doesn't have a cell? BarBoy can't call long distance? Does BarBoy have a last name? etc. etc. Bec summarized it well with one comment "He's probably still with his baby momma or married". Well, that makes more sense when thinking about his behavior for the evening and the covert calling to avoid any evidence trails.
Well, if that's the case, he already has a WE and I don't want to be involved in that ;) Never fails - whenever I go home, there's always boy trouble *LOL*

The Wonders of MySpace...
So Rosie tells me that a bunch of old friends are on MySpace. I was shocked. I haven't seen a number of these people in YEARS! So, I spent a good portion of time browsing through their profiles, reminiscing and it reminded me that I sooo need to get a scanner and soon. I have photos from when all of us would go on vacation and even have one of those on my desk here at work.
I really miss these guys. Who else can you go on a booze cruise with and have them ply Bec with long island ice teas to where she is dancin' down the deck (she does not travel well.. Trust me ;)). In Atlantic City, we would all convene on Ballys and cause drama til dawn. Going to see a freestyle concert with this crew is NUTS! And lets not even talk about the water balloon fight in the Poconos... Lake George - fugettaboutit!
Who knows - maybe one day we can have a little get together again. Til then, I'll be preparing the water balloons cuz some revenge is surely needed ;)

Guidelines to Tourists visiting Disney...
Here are some helpful guidelines to remember when you are traveling OFF Disney property and into the general population. Being that I happen to reside near one of the gates, I've been able to observe quite a bit over the past 5 years and frankly, after this morning, I have about reached my tolerance level.
- Should you drive off Disney property and are from another country, whether it is England, Europe, whatever please obey THIS country's driving laws. That includes driving on the correct side of the road, using hand/turn signals, etc. Do not drive down the wrong side of the road while trying to sip your coffee that you just got from McDonalds while screaming "What the Bloody Hell!" at the people telling you that you are driving the wrong way.
- While driving, please be so kind as to observe speed limits in the residential areas. Just because you are driving down 535, does not mean that you can play GoGo Speed Racer as you rush to make it to the liquor store and Winn Dixie before it closes.
- Realize that when the white cross walk light is on, pedestrians have the right of way. Also remember that it is not your duty to race after my roommate threatening to clip her with your bumper in a game of "tag the American girl".
- Know that any grocery store in the plaza across from Disney is a trap. They will swindle your money and act all hoity-toity. Also know that the particular McDonalds in the same plaza has increased their prices to "accommodate tourism dollars". Go to Sandlake People. SANDLAKE!
- Should you need gas, it is wise to not buy gas near the parks. Its $2.85 but if you go down Sandlake it's $2.39. For a frugal fashionista local like moi - that extra $.46 per gallon can be used toward my new wardrobe, shoes or handbag collection.
- Please, Please, Please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, at 8:15 in the morning, do NOT, stress DO NOT, drive into the 7/11, stop your car midway through the entrance, stop and sit there talking on your phone giggling uncontrollably thereby effectively blocking traffic in and out and causing locals to gesture wildly at said offender.
- Do not look at me like I'm crazy when you do it again and put your head down covering your face, still talking on the phone as you again stop traffic in the opposite direction.
- Recognize that there are actual people who LIVE in this area and please take the care to be considerate. Should you choose to ignore, do not get all hillbilly pissy when my roommate or I look at you and say "What the HELL is YOUR problem?" We're from the north. We're not polite southerners.
I'm sure there are many other "guidelines, but after the giggling 7/11 bimbo, I'm at my wits end. Next time I see her, I will knock on her window and, ala a Bugs Bunny cartoon, grab her damn cellphone and stomp on it with my stiletto. If anything, the Orange County Sheriffs would appreciate my thoughtfulness in getting yet another tourist cell phone offender off the streets.

Eye Candy Alert...

Ladies - set your TiVos - Rob Estes is set to star in The Evidence, whose premiere is tonight at 10:00 p.m. on ABC. You can read more about it here. I'm always on the lookout for a good crime show, but if you add some eye candy to the mix, hell I'm a goner. I mean, look at this puppy and tell me that there isn't the slightest bit of curiousity, esp. with his eyes.
Cosmos anyone?

40's Time Warp...

Ok - I just had to share... this is my 1940's time warp car from hell. Hertz decided to be so kind and upgrade me to a brand new Chevy HHR. I spent more time reading the car manual to find the buttons for the gas tank, windows (they were by the stick shift), etc. and it wasn't even MY car. Not only that - it takes a hell of an amount of gas. Needless to say, I will NOT be getting one of these Dick Tracy cars any time soon... Oh - and when you are driving pretty speedy down 93 because you should have been on 495 - the car shakes...
Yeah - thanks for the upgrade, Hertz - next time I'll just take the Ford Focus or pregnant rollerskate ;)

New Appreciation...
I have a new appreciation for Orlando, even with Mayor Roly-Poly ;) Getting off the plane yesterday, I'm surprised I didn't kiss the ground and give thanks for the 80 degree weather, normal (somewhat) drivers and even the lizards. There was no snow, no cold and I could put away the boots for open toed shoes again. Ahhh.. How I missed the land of the damn rat.
All in all, trip was good except for my mother laying some serious emotional guilt trips right before I left and, as if right on schedule, by the 3rd day she was looney. There is a reason why I am not close to her. I'd go more into detail but my emotions took a hell of a beating yesterday so I'm honestly zapped out.
I loved getting together with BR, Meowmix, Tra and Bec and good times were had all around. I didn't totally break the bank and was pleasantly surprised to find that I dropped another size when I was shopping. Boy was I a happy puppy. And, as an added bonus, I am unscathed by my mother's cooking - why? Because I've mastered the art of pushing the food around the plate and citing "Not hungry, sorry" and leaving it at that. My mother cooks with an abnormal amount of grease and wonders why she gained so much weight in so little time. She won't listen to me. Whatever.. I tried. Now I'm not getting all Olsen or anything, just trying to be a tad more responsible when it comes to eating.
So all in all, good experience (for the most part) and I'm sure I'll have a few more reflections this week but I did learn a few things… I'm glad I did break out of Western Mass. I'm learning that our experiences shape our world and, while I might bitch, whine and moan about the Rat, I've learned to adapt. I've grown up quite a bit since back when I lived up north and am rather happy with how things turned out.
And, to boot, I have awesome friends both up there and down here. I am truly blessed!

Things Heard While Out And About...
So Saturday night, this gal went out with Bec to a bar whose name I had forgotten (but I soooo used to love) and here are just a few things that were heard that evening...
* "So, are those real?"
* "What the fuk - Why are you looking at my boobs?"
* "She should NOT be wearing a tube top - back fat people BACK FAT!"
* "Don't request a song if you aren't going to dance to it"
* "Are you sure those are real?"
* "How can I not look - you got those things in my face" said by a 5'3 idiot to girl with a very low cut top, insinuating that they were real (and, for once, it wasn't me).
* "Can I buy you a drink or will you yell at me?"
* "Skeet Skeet Skeet" screached by a 5'2 country bumpkin' lookin' white boy karaoking to Lil' Jon...
* "You used to go out with that asshole right?"
* "Ever married" - when the answer was no, "Commitment Issues?"
There is SO much more, but time is tight right now and I have a very early flight..
News at Noon ;)

The Bubble Gets Wider...
I've come to notice that while I have survived Day 1 of Family Visit, my mother is certifiable. She's done lost what little marbles she has had left. Needless to say, I'm breaking out tomorrow to spend some time with BR, Meowmix & Bec or else she's going to drive me to drink...
Some things have NOT changed *sigh* And with the bitter cold up here, I have a new appreciation for Orlando. I did, however, get a killer Dior(esque) bag which I will have to post. Though picking up the bag was an adventure. Apparently my mother is a *valued* customer and we were led to a special room where other people could not venture. I wanted to sound like Julie from the Real World New York (1st Season) and ask "Is there drugs in here?" Talk about covert operations.
However, upon entry, in that room was designer knock off nirvana. They had the latest Dior, Gucci, Vuitton, Chanel and Coach so I pull out the shopping tricks and tips that I've learned over the years. I'm there investigating the seams and interiors, flipping things over and my mother remarks "How did you learn to tell a good knockoff from a bad". DOH! I learned from my mother and her best friend Mo at the young age of 14. How easy she forgets the lessons she taught me.
I can tell a Grucci from a Gucci or a decent Dior from a not so decent. I'm not a Prada fan but my chanel - so cute. Plus one of my friends works for Christian Dior and I know I did good when I can get past her eagle eyes ; ) When it comes to shopping, I have a black belt. For 40% of the cost of what I would have paid online at either Ebay, IBid or one of the "inspired" sites, I got a gorgeous brand new Dior bag and sunglasses and they are locating a wallet for me. Pictures are forthcoming...Don't worry - I won't get all BryanBoy! One day, I will afford the real thing, but for now - I'm happy with my "inspired" accessories to alternate with my NineWest and Coach items.
Ahhh.. to shop or not to shop - that is the eternal question...

Espresso Martinis and a Small Town...
Well I learned a valuable lesson. Never, and I stress NEVER get an espresso martini on a friggin' plane. That stuff tasted like swill. I've had college drinks that were way better than that $8.00 p.o.s. Ugh. And, as I told Bec, plane ride was okay, but the pilot could have driven a tad better. I like Delta Song, but today was a day where I just couldn't mobilize and get myself to packing.
Well, now that I'm here, I've realized that time for this town has seriously stood still. While flipping through the town paper, I see that this gal won for the "Citizenship Award" for St. Patrick's Day -she looked a tad familiar, couldn't place her and *wham* - it hits me - I went to high school with her. She was a couple years ahead of me and was best friends with this girl I couldn't deal with, Angela. Well, looks like this gal Kate has done very well for herself with three beautiful children and a thriving business. I'm sure my mom will tell me *all* about it. My mom is like Julie McCoy from the Love Boat for this town - she's on committees, social events, yada yada yada. Tres exhausting if you ask me.
Then, flipping some more - wedding announcements, birth announcements, etc and while reading this beauty column penned by a local - *wham* another familiar face - I swear its the woman who used to live across the street from me whose 4 kids I used to babysit in high school. The kids' names escape me now, but I do remember her one of her sons, Joseph, was a real badazz. When my best friend Justine died, I remember I was babysitting at her house that night when I got the call.
I'm debating whether or not to drop by the salon and see what's up. Mary Ann was an amazing woman. She went through an abusive marraige and nasty divorce and while her last name was unfamiliar in the article, I'm willing to bet that within a 99.9% chance it was her. However, should I drop by the salon - I will NOT let her give me a color/perm/nada. In 11th grade, she permed my hair and left the solution on way too long where I went from stick straight hair to wavy. Drives me nuts when I have to straighten it daily. Talk about hairdressers making a lasting impression.
Now - lets see how long til I get the requisite "So, you're not married yet?" b.s. Also, wish me luck - I'm pulling my old church records tomorrow so I'll let y'all know what happened with that mess. 9:00 I'm heading back - haven't been back to that church since 1989 so we'll see how that goes.
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY PEOPLE!!!Labels: Random Mess

... S&TC Inspiration before I depart..

Carrie: When it comes to relationships, maybe we're all in glass houses, and shouldn't throw stones. Because you can never really know. Some people are settling down, some are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less. Than butterflies...
How true! I'm so sick of settling, that I'm not even going to stress over the traveling this weekend. Whatever happens, happens. And that my friends are my parting words before I head to the cold frozen white north. 33 degrees today and snowing. I'd blog from there, however don't think that will be possible. Busy busy busy! There's the requisite family visits, shopping, terrorizing Meowmix & Bec, chillin' with BR and Ed, so much to do - so little time. It's 11:30 - I'm done working for the day and as of tomorrow afternoon, I will be on a plane sippin' a cosmo as I head for Massachusetts. So, with that - everyone have a wonderful weekend and I will have a full report on Monday (well - of stuff that I can actually disclose of course - a gal doesn't tell all.)
Oh and BR - I didn't forget your birthday - I know I'm blonde - but not that blonde. Celebration will be had when I get home. BR is one of the few men I know that is determined to turn me into a morning person ;)

Communication Phobia...
Well, according to a newsletter I received, apparently I have a communication phobia. Backstory - A while ago I joined EHarmony. Well, out of curiosity, I began talking with someone on there. From initial appearances, he seemed to be a nice guy - works in PR, seemed to have his head together and eehhh... okay. Emails are harmless, right? Well, when we started talking on the phone, when he sounded a tad "Howdy Doody" ish, I immediately started to sense some warning signs. On our 3rd phone call (and they were not consecutive - I am a very busy gal, ya know), he tells me that he "talked to [his] church group about me". HELLO - CHURCH GROUP? Is he outta his cotton pickin' mind???
The QUICKEST way to drive me batty is to talk about me to other people, esp. a church group. 1) they don't know me; 2) we're not in a relationship where you would need religious counsel - just initial talking to stages, 3) I'm not converting so people need to understand that right in the beginning and 4) Mormons need not apply, ju know? I almost went down that path ONCE, and we won't go for a second. This gal is born and baptized Catholic and proud of it.
SO, needless to say, I ceased any and all communication right after that conversation and nary a peep since before Xmas. The man sent me cookies (which Roomie questioned if they were toxic or not), has a phobia of marshmallows (don't ask) and that high pitched voice of his makes me think he's ala Clay Aiken.
Today - what happens - HOWDY sends me an email to my home account AND my work account "to talk". Buddy - there is NO NEED to talk. I'm a busy gal. I made it clear there was no interest and when a man chases, that really is a turn off. When it comes to relationships, I believe in a 50/50 split. When that gets outta wack, oh hell no.
Needless to say, Meowmix screens all future potential suitors. After H., Mark, A. and a few others, she's got a even lower tolerance for B.S. than I do. I still crack up at the day she took H. aside nicely and told him what she would do to him should my heart get trampled. He's terrified to this day of her. Plus, as an added deflection, there is always Roomie with her hand on the hip, sarcastic tone and initial interrogation.
Let Howdy try to get through them first *LOL* This gal has some shoppin' to do.

How Irish AM I? Hello?!?!?
Ok - so I took this little "quizzy" thing and it tells me I'm only 50% Irish - hello - just because I don't have a predilection for Guiness doesn't mean that I lose 30% of my irishness people. ARG! I'm 80% irish dammit and proud :) The other 20%, thanks to my lovely mom is Blackfood indian SO that means i can scalp someone and pummel them with potatoes! Ahhhh.. the wonders of being a mutt as my dear friend Nick would say...
| You're 50% Irish |
You're probably less Irish than you think you are... But you're still more Irish than most. |

So Pretty

Newport News sent off yet another one of their email "cyber shopping" blasts and I fell for this blazer. It is so cute. Alas, it's not available until 4/12 so I'll have to wait and see.
Their lace/eyelet collection is rather snazzy this year. Make sure to check it out :)

Damn You Food Network!!!
A couple weeks ago, I was watching Oprah and there was a recipe for a vodka cream pasta that was supposedly to die for. OK, OK - well the recipe isn't "mine" per se - its Rachel Ray's "You Wont Be Single For Long Vodka Cream Pasta" but damn! I made my first pasta sauce from scratch, was able to slice and dice the veggies, cook the pasta al dente and viola! Needless to say, this will be added to my repertoire, and the leftovers will be used for lunch tomorrow.
I'd like to know if this recent bout of cooking is some form of Food Network type brainwashing. All I know is that I'm cooking way too much lately. Maybe its to overcomes for the fact that my mother burns everything, and I mean EVERYTHING she cooks. Or maybe its to make up for the 2 years of hamburger helper that my father would cook after my mother left. (That's pretty much all he knows how to make). Either way - I *heart* this recipe. The pasta, mixed with a good White Merlot and some homemade bread (OK - it was Pillsbury but still, I made it at home and NO BURNING) - yumm-O! (Sorry Maleek!)
Maybe I should tell my mother to forget about cooking, for the safety of all involved.

Inspiring Words from Joel Osteen this morning..
Pastor Osteen had a very inspiring talk today about not stressing over people and what they think. How great to hear when I'm filled with this trepidation about going home. He said, "You control your own destiny. Other people do not control you". Here I am nervous about what people will think, worried how my past friends and acquaintances will feel about my life choices here in Orlando, following my dreams. I've been living to please everyone else, but not pleasing myself.
Reality is - I need to follow my own heart.

Ghost Town...
This weekend, Mr. Tivo decided to add to my torture and record one of my favorite S&TC eps of all time - Ghost Town. The first time I saw this episode, it brought me to tears. Every woman has ghosts of past relationships. Many women have an Aidan and a Mr. Big in their lives. Many times the women can avoid dealing, but like Samantha said, you must confront the ghost, acknowledge it and it will disappear.
With going home, this is the first trip where I have a sense that something will happen. One never knows who one may encounter. While I get most of the area chatter from my mom who is still living out there, I mostly keep in my little O-Town Bubble and don't sweat it.
On one of my last trips, I went out to dinner with my ex fiancee and let me tell you - that was an adventure. Not only has he not changed (still drinking, out of work, living at his mom's house yet again), but I realized that I *had* changed and was glad for doing so. And with that - the ghost of that past relationship disappeared. To make things even more interesting, as we were sitting and talking, one of my on again/off again exes from high school (we'll call him Mr. Music) actually was seated right behind us.
Many of the same crew I used to go to school with, socialize with, etc. have not left the area. Both Roomie & I were able to break out of Western Mass. Others, well Western Mass was the right fit for them. I know that with B., the subject of A. will most definitely come up and that is one messy situation I am not getting involved with. There will always be unresolved issues between me and A. and I'm content with that. I do not feel like acknowledging that ghost. I also don't want to run into A.'s ex wife who has relocated to Western Mass and lives in the area where I will, more often than not, be.
The one ghost I do deal with on every trip home is that of Nick, the one man who *got* me. He's been dead for god, almost 8 years now and there isn't a day that goes by without my remembering the heartbreak. It's been tough to soldier on, but I've learned to take it day by day. I think after Nick's funeral is the one time that BR saw me break. Tough facade or not, when you lose a piece of your heart, it resonates.
All in all, I think it might be interesting, but I just don't feel like dealing with any more ghostly "issues". I'd like to just release the ghost of my damn past but easier said than done.Labels: Memories, Random Mess

Cheaters...
Is it me or is that show host from Cheaters just overly dramatic? I'm sittin' here cleaning and cracking myself up. He's beyond overly dramatic with "Next up, see Star dealing with the dramatic aftermath of the confrontation". They go into a bar and you hear guys chanting "Dirty Whore" as a husband finds out his wife has been cheating on him with a much younger stud-puppy. They refer to the investigators as "Detectives" and he's saying "the detective has a location on so and so - do you want to confront him" and these people DO. ON CAMERA! Hello - why would you want to play that out for the world to see?
Sometimes I wonder if the networks are on crack when they greenlight these programs! Then again, its like watching a train wreck. You just watch.
Thankfully, the husband leaves the wife. The wife blames the husband and says that he pays attention to the kids and not to her. The "companion" (stud puppy) has no qualms about dating the wife and plans to continue. Not only that, but stud puppy calls marriage "antiquated" and only for "tax purposes".
As Rosie would say, "Oh Brother!".

"This Is How We Do It"...
Remember that ol' jam by Montell Jordan - "This Is How We Do It"... well while watching VH-1's Classic Soul this weekend, hearing this track brought up memories. The countdown to going home stirs up feelings that have long laid dormant. Much like a high school reunion, going out with my friends often brings about the possibility of running into some cronies from back in the day.
Throughout college and after, I worked in many a nightclub. There was a unspoken schedule in this crowd - Wednesdays - Geraldines, Thursday through Saturday - Annies, Sundays - Annies for Darts & a couple games of Pool, Lemons on Monday and Tuesday was our day of rest. For 4 years I maintained this out by night, work by day schedule and it was grueling. I met my fiancee during this time (hence me swearing off ANY man that I met in a bar as a future rule). I also met some of my closest friends during this time as well (i.e. Bec, BR, B, etc. to name a few).
I went out with Bec a couple years ago when I went home and it was a real eye opener. Annies had long been demolished. Many of the crowd actually went to a bar in W. Springfield whose name escapes me now, so running into those guys was like facing a firing squad. Alot of questions of "So, are you married now? Any kids? God, you moved to Florida - really? " Questions about my breakup with Mark often followed by full disclosures of what they really thought of him, etc. etc. etc. Not to mention that I had gained weight during my "hiatus" from Massachusetts. (The Poly food will do that to a gal).
Now that I have lost the weight (and then some), I'm finding myself a tad nervous to go home and see everyone. Not only that, but on St. Patty's day, I hear that a concert is scheduled with some of the artists I had dealt with in my previous "lifetime", so the torn feeling of "Should I go or not?" is starting to rear its ugly head. The concert is scheduled in Springfield which is known for its lovely overabundance of late of shootings, stabbings etc. Not to mention, the thought of walking back into the old lifestyle is a tad nervewracking.
B. and I were finally able to catch up this week. His wife M. and I are far from close, but I'm thrilled for them both that they are expecting their first baby. I gathered from B.'s and my conversation that M. was unaware that I was coming home. While we have a game of pool scheduled, he needs to clear it with M. which is fine. But what was NOT fine was his lecture of "When are you going to settle down? When are you going to have a baby?". I told him I'd settle down when I didn't run into rednecks from Polk County at every turn, even in the Bahamas. As for the baby question - mute point right now.
Hence the interrogation has already started and I haven't even boarded a plane yet! If this is the beginning of the chaos, the wine better be flowing!

For the Love of God, Please Stop with the Remakes and Sequels!
Okay - open letter to Hollyweird - PLEASE STOP WITH THE REMAKES & SEQUELS!
I'm watching this show on ABC Family - Beautiful People. It's okay - I watched it more out of a curiosity factor because Grant Show was going to be appearing on it with his former Melrose Place co-star, Daphne Zuniga. So far, eehh.. okay. Not anything I'd Tivo, but okay to keep on while cleaning. During this episode, they show a commercial for yet another "sequel" - CUTTING EDGE II. Hello, CUTTING EDGE II? What's next, Roadhouse II, Outsiders II. Hell, there's already a Karate Kid IV and a Dirty Dancing II. Give me a break. The same is to be said for those "80s/70s" remakes of songs that labels are redoing, hoping to get the same chart success a second time around.
So, here's an idea for Music, Television & Studio Execs. Stop trying to replicate a "formula" and redoing a movie/show/song just hoping for the same $ucce$$ as the original might have had. I.E. CSI: N.Y., CRIMINAL MINDS, and "Boys of Summer" by DJ Sammy. Do something original. There are tons of writers with original thoughts, song, movie or otherwise. Use that. Employ that. See that thrive.
As for Cutting Edge II - SOOO not interested!

Can't a Gal Just Call Out Sick...
Today, I woke up feeling not so hot. No, no Oscar type fetes, just got one of those bugs so decided to take one of my never used sick days. I spoke with a co-worker this morning and was told that everything was calm. Well, I just checked my work email and there is a barrage of requests for me to handle "First Thing". Hello - can't a girl just call out sick without there being some "end of the world" dire blah blah blah thing going on ? JEESH! At this rate, I better get in at the crack of dawn to just put a slight dent in everything...
AND, to top it off - our garbage disposal decided to kick the bucket. Maintenance has to come in tomorrow morning to fix that plus the bathtub in Roomie's bathroom. Also, they requested that the evil cat be contained. Not like she'd bite the idiot or anything ;) She gave that up for lent (j/k). For the amount of rent we pay, egads!! Well, at least it should be fixed by the time I get home tomorrow. So, sadly there will be no cooking in this gal's household, Microwaved hockey pucks will be on the menu until they fix the damn disposal. Yumm-O! *insert eye roll here*

No, not that Crash! upset Brokeback Mountain or that Ang Lee had hissy fits backstage (don't y'all read Ted Casablanca?).. but *insert drum roll* Mr. Clooney, looking very swanky/swooney in a tux, walked away with an Oscar...
I can see it now - Oceans Thirteen starring Oscar winning George Clooney... works for me...

Only on Soul Train...
Mr. Tivo decided to tape Soul Train at god knows what hour of the night last night. I always get a kick out of dance shows so I settled in this morning for some "observing". The fashions haven't changed - still a combo of sporty hip hop and hooch. Camera guys were all about T&A and one can always tell the new dancers from those that are already established on the show. I was really surprised by the musical and talent selections by the staff.
Only on Soul Train will you hear Kirk Franklin's Looking for You and that track Laffy Taffy in the same half hour. What a huge gap - gospel to crunk. You can see that the girls are nervous wondering if they should really dance like they normally do to some gospel... What was the music director thinking?
Then one of the special guests was Flipsyde which is rock ala Linkin' Park. ON SOUL TRAIN??? But the funniest part of the show (besides the famous line dance) was that one of the performing artists wanted to dance onstage during the opening segment. That poor floor director must have been losing his mind. He ain't no Rennie, that much is evident.

You Know Things Are Bad...

You know things are bad when I'm actually LAUGHING at some of the jokes on Live with Regis & Kelly. Even better.. can someone PLEASE tell me when Kelly developed comedic timing?
On a fashion note - thanks to Reese, I was able to notice that Ms. Ripa was wearing Christian Louboutin shoes - with the red soles... not a bad choice.

Music & Memories....
One thing Mr. TiVo tapes for me is VH-1's Classic Soul and I've found some great videos on there that I haven't seen in forever, i.e. Karyn White, Jody Watley, Bell Biv Devoe, etc. Not to mention Mr. TiVo also tapes "It's Showtime at the Apollo" and just recently I was able to catch Lisa Lisa, Digital Underground, and Pebbles.
It's amazing how music can just trigger memories. I'm on an 80's kick right now and finding a plethora of tunes on iTunes that I haven't heard in forever, plus I'm listening to my favorite online radio station more which also has some great tracks.. sooo it's only natural that sometimes these songs will trigger a memory, a thought, a fashion flashback, etc. Just some songs that come to mind with their memories are:
**George Lamond - Bad of the Heart - *sigh*.. days back in Philly;
** John Cougar Mellancamp - Jack & Diane - my very first 45" from Kenny M. As a matter of fact, he gave me that on the same birthday as my grandmother gave me a KISS album with "Tears May Fall". Now, grandmother / Kiss Album.. something is just downright frightening about that. What can I say - I always had an eclectic taste in music...
**Stacey Q - Two of Hearts - my junior high school dance. We all used to watch this dance show on TV and there were these twins on the show that everyone did their "dance" to this song. The high hair was frightening... I'd post a picture if it wasn't so damn incriminating. That, plus my 4" stilettos and my rhinestones... (small yet tasteful), yeah, those photos are in seclusion (along with the bubble skirt, Reese!!)
**Aftershock - Always Thinking - when I worked for this radio station when I was 17 (hey - I started young), they used to always play this song at the remotes I had to work at. Speaking of the remote.. the DJ freaked out when he told me to get him something to "wipe his face with". I brought him paper towels and he lectured me about how that would scratch his sensitive skin. I about busted out laughing at that fool. Wonder whatever happened to him... the last time I saw him, he was let go (for reasons I won't post here *LOL*)
**Madonna - Crazy For You - Junior Prom. I went with the one guy my friends thought was sooo cool. I think actually, him dancin' to Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood shocked the nuns more. They actually would walk around the floor to make sure that noone was "too close". I found out later that he hit on my friend Sophie *LOL*
**Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby. I used to do PR for this band, First With Class and then they morphed into a group called "Young & Funky". (Don't ask). Anywayz... they had these two dancers that were A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. One of them was a funky white boy and yup, you guessed it - he looked like Vanilla Ice. I had the biggest crush (for all of 2 days.. then touring with him put things in a totally different perspective).
**Salt n Pepa - Shoop. There was a club I went to all the damn time with Kelly K. and BR was the head bouncer. That song, plus a few others like K7's Come Baby Come and Prince's Erotic City.. I would always be dancin'.. Hey - with the amount of times we went to that club, it was a free Gym Membership, with security guard and cocktails!
That's it - I am so ready to go out dancin'.. there are so many more songs that I've fallen victim to, but that's enough of a stroll down memory lane.. at least for this week ;)

I'm Headed Up North...
In exactly 12 days, this blonde is headed back into frigid temperatures to the cold, cold north to partake in St. Patty's day revelry, torture friends and family and maybe, just maybe, cause some mischief & mayhem. So, from March 16 - 19, y'all know who you are. Shoot me an email and I'll "pencil' ya in.
So far, I have a client meeting in Connecticut, BR is making me get up early on Saturday sans hangover and Fitz owes me a game of pool. Prepare to lose, and lose big!!! Now, to figure out the rest of the schedule would be nice... Bec & Meowmix are next on my list then I have the requisite family visitations, etc. and hear "So, you haven't settled down. You're still single." or the kicker - my mom once told me that she met a "nice doctor who lives in Florida and he is in her ONLINE BIBLE STUDY GROUP". SO, yes - she decided to give him my phone number "just in case we hit it off". I need to shut that woman DOWN! She wants grandkids - she can ask my stepsister or my stepbrother.
And I hear that my father might finally have a girlfriend. Should make for interesting conversation when he runs into my mother and stepfather. My mother is famous for "don't want him but noone else can have him either" so I'll be prepared for fireworks. Anyone for popcorn?
I'm heartbroken tho that I can't wear my cute sandals *sigh*. Every time I go up north, I come home with the flu and highly doubt this time will be different... but it will be good to go home, even if it is only for a few days...
Now to figure out the wardrobe.

Rooting for Swooney!

I am not one to go all wiggy over the Oscars. I'm not a big movie fiend (and, thanks to H., have NO desire to actually GO to a movie theater ever again.. Overdose of free movies.. Ugghhh).. But this year's Oscar race made me curious. Reese Witherspoon v. Felicity Huffman. Heath Ledger v. George Clooney. And on and on and on..
In watching Barbara Walter's special last night (because, of course, Swooney, as Reese has affectionately dubbed him, was being interviewed), I'm now curious to see what happens. I absolutely LOVED her interview with Mr. Clooney and he was very charming, well spoken and his dry wit just was too much!
I didn't really pay attention to Mariah and her closet. I found Matthew McConaughey to be charming and very frank on things and Patrick Dempsey really broke out of the 80's Can't Buy Me Love Geek persona. Definitely with him, it is the hair ;) All in all, great special.
So maybe this time I won't just quickly scan E! for the winners names, but maybe, just maybe tune into one of those tabloid shows for the highlights, if only to see Swooney in a tux..
Ahhhh.. The perfect man. I hope he wins *4* trophies and I'm so glad to hear that he played Batman in a whole other direction…
You can check out George Clooney's interview here . Enjoy!

Breaking News from the Land of the Rat...

According to a "source" *cough cough* Roomie *cough cough* Baloo at DisneyWorld has been injured.
APPARENTLY, (cuz I ain't one to gossip)… a "Guest" got VERY upset that Jungle Book's own beloved Baloo was talking too long in the back. When Baloo emerged to greet the childrens, said guest allegedly decided to reenact some redneck version of WWE and promptly put poor Baloo in a headlock. Sadly, Baloo lost.
And in other news.. Mickey Mouse pulled a "Fergie". Depends should be a staple for all Disney characters at the parks. Either that or their greeters better understand that when the character stomps their foot three times, they better listen. Poor Mickey didn't make it to the Ladies room in time. Hopefully that particular costume will be retired and not just drycleaned.
Ahhhhh… roomie should write a blog on this stuff.. Had me in stitches *LOL*
