Wait a Minute...

PCD has hit again with a kick-azz single featuring Timbaland... "Wait A Minute". For some fun dance-y type music, you might want to pick up the album. This video has a very 60ish theme... mod, etc. I know Meowmix might get a kick outta the lyrics...

... Rantings, Ravings and All That Jazz...

Well, as you know, I rarely go into detail about the dayjob ("D/J"), but lets just say, the past few weeks my nerves have been shot more than Anna Nicole's prior to her "TrimSpa Baybee" mess. I've been working on a project that kinda has been keeping me up nights at 3:00 going "did I do blah blah blah".

Also in my non-news of the week - I've had a few "differences of opinion" shall we say with a couple people who I regarded as pretty decent friends. However, as I was warned by Meowmix, when one doesn't agree with the others and manipulate certain teachings to *their* benefit - these particular "buddies" will turn quicker than that damn pack of hyenas in the Lion King. Whatever - left that crap behind years ago. Yes, it's bothersome, but I really could care less what a couple of them think. So - when I saw through some of the crap, I caught the pattern and, like that song says, "So Yesterday". I'll just beat those particular individuals over the head with my broomstick (before I put it back on Nov. 1)

Also -a friend of mine starts at the D/J next week, which should be fun. He's a good kid - the only thing that's a tad unnerving is that he kinda resembles A., which is kinda spooky. On the A. front - I've heard from a couple people that A. might be living here in Florida but haven't wanted to verify that its true. I'm just hoping its a Western Mass rumor, ya know? But if he is possibly living only an hour and a half away - so not a good idea. That's a past I don't think is wise to resurrect.

Finally - I was supposed to go out of town for business this week, which unfortunately fell on my b'day and all, thwarting Meowmix & my semi-annual vacation. Also - it meant I couldn't even think about possibly flying home and spending a bit of time with the family, Meowmix, BR & Bec. Plus Reese almost flew out here but travel right now is beyond hella expensive. I was content to just get away, work my tail off and take a raincheck.

Well, I find out today that said plans to travel have been moved to FEBRUARY 2007. HELLO - I'm supposed to move and I've got my vacay to LA for the Grammys and ish. Ugh! Beyond pissy was this gal. So pissy I bought two comedy albums on iTunes to make my blond butt laugh because god knows I was far from friendly when I found out the timing on that mess. Larry the Cable guy (Former Orlando radio dj) and Jeff Foxworthy have cornered the market on stupid (in a good way).

However, in good news - the D/J is having a pumpkin carving contest and I can say our idea is beyond brilliant. Beyond beyond BEYOND! I'd tell ya what we did but then I'd have to kill ya. Tonight we've got trick or treating in the complex and Roomie is putting Shaddy in her "pretty witch" costume to scare the kiddos. Now THAT will be fun. If Shadow poses long enough, I'll post pics

Happy Halloween everyone!! BOO!

This is Why I Heart Nine West...

I normally shop at the Nine West store in the Millennia Mall - the salespeople go above and beyond and I always enjoy the selection. However, I cheated on my store the other night and went to the one at the Florida mall which brought out the inner feisty wench.

First of all - I was in the store for 10 minutes holding a pair of shoes that I wanted, no acknowledgement from the two girls that were working - they were more interested in tryin' to hookup with the "wanna be gang-stah" who worked at Champs and talkin' about what gear to get for the weekend. Not to mention, when is it normal for employees to dress like they are about to go work on OBT (local "ladies of the evening" hangout") rather than work at the mall. These gals were hooched out with clothes that looked like snausage casings.

Then - 10 minutes later, after I found some shoes, a bag and something else - STILL no acknowledgement. SO, what did I do - ask for the district manager's phone number. I knew that one of these two dingbats was a manager and, since I was the ONLY customer in the store, that obviously that manager needed some training! I get this clerk who is beyond bimbette and inform her that I need the district's number, post haste. The manager is still goo-goo eyein' the Champs guy who left the store and was tryin' to talk to someone across the way. Manager tells her to go look at the call list in the back. The clerk goes "His home number?" You're kiddin' me right? I tell her that in the real world, we need business numbers to call during BUSINESS hours. I then tell her to put on the Millennia phone number… this is where it gets good. I ask the clerk if that is her manager to which I hear "Uh huh" in this barbie cheerful noddy tone. I could have SMACKED the dingbat - but figured it's not her fault.

So, I walk up to said manager who has nothin' but an attitude already and tell her that she just lost out on a sale, Millennia was going to get it and it would be substantial. I also told her to get her story ready now why she was not being "a manager" and that I would be having a long talk with her district manager. Her response: Wench sucked in her damn teeth and started to give me an attitude to which she quickly learned, I don’t deal with that mess. I informed Ms. Thang that either she change her attitude or it might be in her best interest to possibly look for another job as retail clearly isn't her line of work. Then, I advised her and her clerk - Acknowledge a client when they arrive, ESPECIALLY if they were the only customer in the store and they still had another hour to work. I also told her that if they were there to get a man, to do it AFTER work hours.

So - with that, I departed, called the district manager and left him a message about his "team" at the Florida mall, called the Millennia mall store and had them pull the shoes I was looking at and flew like a mad NYC driver to get to the Nine West store 20 minutes away before they closed. Upon arrival, I talked with the Millennia people who had already pulled the shoes I wanted and had them ready for me. Plus - their district manager already got my message, called the store and told their manager that I would hear from him after his vacation but he would deal with this situation immediately when he returned. Here's the best part - they told me that the shoes that didn't fit me on my last trip to their store, they are going to exchange because they go a size too big. So - with that, I left a very happy 9West customer, indulged in a Maple Non-Fat Macchiato and made this promise: I will only deal with that store from now on - Florida mall - notsomuch!

Monica at the Millennia Mall is the schnitzit. Hillary (or whatever her name is) at the Florida mall needs to get a clue, or 10.

Rate YOUR Doctor...

VIMO is having a little somethin whereby you rate your doctor and they will also send you a t-shirt. Being here in Orlando, I’m fortunate to have some fabulous medical assistance. From Dr. Boswell (eyes) to Dr. Sovran (my g.p.) to Dr. Hardeman & the crew at Celebration Dental Care, love, love, LOVE them. So – if PayPerPost & Vimo want me to rate the docs, sure – why not. As y’all know – if I believe in something I will praise it to high heaven. If it sucks, I’ll tell ya that too.

So – being that I’ve enjoyed great success with my doctors, you can read my reviews here for Dr. Sovran and Dr. Hardeman. I went to review Dr. Boswell, but she wasn’t in there yet so I submitted her. VIMO’s so user friendly it took me no time at all. So – if you want to review your Doc, drop on by Vimo and maybe you can grab a T-Shirt as well…

Now, if only going to the doctor’s was that quick ;)

Protection & Security is Key....

As y'all know, I'm in the market to rework my financial situation and, eventually, buy a house and lay down roots here in Sunny Central Florida. I'm very guarded when it comes to my financial/personal information so security is key when I start looking at Mortgage companies. Having been burned severely by Orchard Bank selling my info to every Tom, Dick and Harry lately for "marketing" purposes - even when they were told specifically NOT TO has made me even more caution.

PayPerPost turned me onto this service that, on its face, seems very committed to the cause of keeping one's info safe. Not to mention this site, actually has tools on its site to help you such as mortgage calculators and helpful articles. They even tell you the title companies for your area and mortgage brokers. And - they are in full compliance with the FTC, Do Not Call and Spam Regulations. Ummm.. Yeah - this place is getting bookmarked when I go on the hunt for my first home.

Thanks PayPerPost!

Oh NO She Didn't...

While goin' through Tivo this evening, the fashionista, Sarah Jessica Parker ("SJP") was on Live with Regis & Kelly and, before SJP started her interview (fabulous guest, btw) if I could have reached through the screen and smacked Ms. Ripa I would have. Why? Two reasons.

1) THESE SHOES. WENCH HAS MY DAMN SHOES. Well - my version is the *more affordable* Nine West version and hers is the mega - Christian Louboutin verison but still. WENCH HAS MY SHOES. I'm having a flashback to 1988. Like I've said before - starting at the age of 15 - Ms. Ripa, along with one Ms. Lillian and Ms. Holly decided that stilettos were the "shoe of choice" on set. I would never say she was part of the "Mean Girls" posse, but she did help dictate fashion choices. Since then, I've worn the heels and flats feel strange. Does that make sense. So - when I am 70, hobbling, I should send Ms. Ripa my podiatrist bill.

2) As she models her outfit, she walks out wearing said shoes with a dress and LEGGINGS! Yes - LEGGINGS. I bit my lip. Why? Because back in the 80s, Ms. Ripa is the reason we all committed said fashion faux pas. I can name three girls off the bat who wore poofy skirts (ala hers today) but with more opaque leggings (*Cough Tina, Lillian, Holly, Christina N., need I go on *cough cough*)...

Bowing to the uber fashionista, Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker *snaps*

Her outfit was remicient of her earlier days on Dance Party. All she needed was her damn poofy hair and rhinestones. When one mentions bad 80s fashion, she (along with most of us) are culprits. However, I will say - that outfit today was fierce as was the Queen of ALL Fashionistas, SJP. Utter fashion fabulousness... I won't even mention the tag that flashed on the bottom of SJP's shoe with the black line crossed out that just made things a tad more human *LOL*...

Ms. Kelly - circa 1988

Kelly - you still bit the shoe concept. But I ain't madatcha. Just don't do it again.

Pleasantville, Resurrected...

I spent a good portion of the morning in Celebration, Florida as my father flew in to meet with his doctor for some routine mess. If you have ever been to Celebration, you know it's like a scene from a movie - picket fences, lovely houses, gorgeous landscaping, a main street filled with lovely little shops. Pleasantville, for real. It was during my trip driving in the blinding Florida sun that I made a discovery - Underneath this lovely looking picturesque town street lurks a silent evil... the jaywalker...

Jaywalker + blinding sun = Oh. My. God. NO I didn't hit the wench, but don't think I didn't consider my opinions in that split second. Yes, I know - I need to talk to a therapist about my deep seated tourist issues....

Also - interesting conversation between myself and a Celebration local yokel (CL)

Picture this - I'm mixing a coffee at Starbucks (yes - they HAVE a Starbucks - much to the chagrin of the locals who preferred Barnies)... and this older gentlemen, CL steps up to the counter and proceeds to yammer away:

CL: I'm deciding what to put in my coffee - I am a man, you know.
Lys: Ummm.. (rather uncomfortably) Decisions, Decisions
CL: So many choices these days. But I can think for myself.
Lys: Good for you!
CL: AND - I can walk and talk at the same time. Not bad huh?
Lys: That's great - you deserve a cookie!!
CL: See - Men aren't all that bad.
Lys: Good luck with that. (and I QUICKLY beat it out of that store)

AM I BRANDED A BIATCHE?? Seriously - I about fell out laughing... This totally beats one of my friends screaming outside my apartment the other night and singing Mariah Carey. What is this world coming to??

Dreamin - Spanish Style...

PayPerPost put forth an idea that got me thinkin... if only...

One of their suggestions was "What are your thoughts about buying property in Spain". SPAIN? Wow - that is one of those places that is beyond my radar - hell, the first time I went out of the country was to Canada and the Bahamas. Spain... that sounds like a place that only dreams are made of. The sun, the beaches, the sand, the cuisine, the SHOPPING (cuz you know I would be thinkin' choos, right), the nightlife - and isn't Ibiza nearby? Ahhhhh - and to one day own investment property there - who knows. I have learned from reading many of my PF blogs, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

And - if Tanya from Footballers Wives can run away to Spain and buy a house, why can't I?

It's Not Supersonic...

But still fun...

Couple things that I came across today...

First of all - Fergie's new video: Fergilicous...

The track is an interpretation of Supersonic by J.J. Fad - (remember them?)

And - when you want to hear this girl belt out live - here's a live performance of her track - Clumsy:

I'm not kiddin' when I said this album is HOT!

In other music news - JZ needs to finish up his track - I can't wait for y'all to hear it. It's a duet with another freestyle/house singer and is off the CHAIN!

Countdown to the Grammys is about to commence ;)

Samantha: Carrie, you can't date your fuck buddy.

Carrie: Say it a little louder, I don't think the old lady in the last row heard you.

Samantha: You're going to take the only person in your life that's there purely for sex, no strings attached, and turn him into a human being? Why?

That Time of Year Again...

My mom buzzed me today with her yearly "What do you want for your birthday give me some ideas" blah blah blah. Now -if you knew my mom - you know that it's questionable, to say the least. She rarely gets anything that she can't get on QVC or HSN so when she asked me if I wanted a red Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, she was a bit shocked when I said "No - I want one by Jenn-Air". Then, as I was driving home, I wondered "Is Kitchen Aid on QVC". Needless to say, she put me on notice to do a registry/wishlist online - so off I will go to Williams-Sonoma - or maybe I'll do what Michelle does on her blog with an online wishlist. God knows, with my latest cooking/housewares obession, it's gonna be pricey. In other news, she's shipping down the Cuisinart - it's the Pro Series and she used it a total of 3 times. If only she could ship me countertop space.

I think I need to counsel her with the "QVC/HSN" through Ebates, FatWallet or MrRebates. She'll get $$ back and can still indulge in her shopping issues. Or would that make me an enabler...

So - I again braved Costo on a Saturday (after my friend's Southern Living At Home party) to pick up the cat her own copy of Over The Hedge (hey - what can I say - the cat will sit in front of the TV and watch her movies - better than her chasing, oh, a lizard? - I know I know - I need a child *LOL*)

Anywayz - so I got wind that Costco is carrying some high end makeup/beauty products so, I stroll down with my cart already full of crap I don't need but need to have (don't ask) and there it is... just as I suspected...

Seriously... does this woman EVER age...

My god - I remember this woman from my childhood - my mom was a soap junkie and nighttime soaps were her favorite. Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Dallas, Knots Landing - she would watch it. I always knew that her and my dad would be watching the campy stuff and often, I would watch from the corner of the hall outside their room. *shhhhhh*

My dad loved Dallas - I think he envisioned himself a mini J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman - NOT John "I'm Confused" Travolta)... but my mom - she loved the campiness that some of these shows had. Not to mention the fashion. I just wanted to learn how to do the makeup.

So - with that being said - has anyone watched that show FASHION HOUSE? It stars Morgan Fairchild and Bo Derek as bitter rivals set, of course, in the cutthroat world of fashion. It's on MyNetwork (65 here in Orlando) Monday through Friday at 9:00 p.m. with a weekly recap on Saturdays - NO REPEATS. We're talking typical dynasty catfights (ala Alexis & Krystal Carrington), fabulous fashion and blatant ad placements. "Nikki - you know Talor got the Garnier Fructis campaign, right?" or "Maybelline - sponsor of the House of Gianni - Face of Gianni contest".

I'm hooked. Hey Maria Gianni - Bring it ***** - Bring It!!

Today's Rants & Raves...

It's been a day of highs and lows... so I'm blowing off a bit of steam - forgive me in advance, por favor?
  • During a visit to Ashley Stewart today to find *the* suit for some upcoming events, I finally located my wide black belt, a fabu suit jacket, that leopard cami for my suit to add a bit of za-za-zu however, when looking for a sweater in my *new* size, the only one was on the mannequin. When talking to an associate, said associate (a co-manager) decided that rather than assist me in obtaining the sweater (which I later learned was snagged), that I could be self sufficient because she had to play with her sidekick. Her other co-manager decided to comment all throughout the store about some co-worker talking *shit* about her and she "better recogize" but she "ain't mad at her" only to switch over and tell a bill collector that she doesn't have any money order number and its not her fault if her bill was late. Mind you - all of this conversation was handled very loudly throughout the store and she then switched over on yet *another* call to talk about some gossip about the same co-worker and how she pays her rent with money orders that she gets from friends of hers. She said she "doesn't even cash them - just turns them in with the rent". I know WAY too much about her and her issues. Yeah - her manager is NOT going to be pleased about this mess.
  • I then trotted over to Bed, Bath & Beyond to look at the Le Creuset pots in Chestnut as directed by their district manager a few days ago only to find that Bed, Bath & Beyond ONLY carries them ONLINE. They will not nor plan to carry them IN THE STORES. Then I hear from one of the clerk, "Who the hell is dumb enough to spend this much on a pot. It's a friggin' POT". My retort - "Someone who knows how to cook!" Dumbazz...
  • Finally - on my way home I need to make an open "advisement" to any and all tourists visiting Orlando - especially the midwest bumble**** who decided that his version of a crosswalk was the line WHERE THE CARS stop and then decided that he was going to "man up" when I almost got to THE LINE WHERE I WAS SUPPOSED TO. Fool - to quote Beyonce - "You Don't Know About Me". I decided to curse and tell him I will send him back to his little small town a bit more bruised and I was far from scared of some dork who can't cross where instructed. Cross in the crosswalk fool!
  • However - on CSI tonight - I had the perfect thing to make up for the idiocy from above - Sean Patrick Flannery was on CSI. How can one not look at that boy's eyes and go MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Ahhh.. I feel much better now. Thank you for listening...

Price Shopping - For Healthcare????

While we're talkin' a bit about health... Let's talk about this new service - VIMO. Sometimes I wonder where doctors get off charging what they do. I don’t see it as often as Roomie does because you know living here in the land of the Rat - you don't really get insurance as a park worker or working in the area. They consider it lucky if you get 5 cents above minimum wage - insurance - you won't need insurance - you'll be working your ears, I mean tail off for the rat and his cronies who HAVE insurance.

So - this is a good resource to do a bit of "price shopping", research on doctors and HMA/FSA Plans. Now, during elections time I normally draw a blank and, much like my choice of Kitchen appliances, I have a "Mmmmmkay - that sounds good" without really grasping the insurance plan, ya know? It's all greek to me. So to find a place that kinda breaks it down is very helpful AND helps me maximize my insurance dollar. Even if it's not *my money* I'm all about making sure to get the bang for the buck. It's a way of life.

As for Roomie, she'll be checkin' that out and, instead of checking the court dockets to see how many med mal claims are filed, she might find that info on here - One Stop Shopping. Now I'm all for THAT!

True Love - Yet Again...

Well I wound up purchasing these boots from Silhouettes and, can I tell you, it's like running around in sneakers/slippers. No foot petals needed, ladies and they fit divine! Not to mention the fact that, while they are a bit pricey, they are full leather (none of that manmade #*@*) and look adorable. I'm a sucker for knee high boots and granny boots - so these had me at hello.

I'm used to running around on 3 1/2 - 4" heels so these being 2 1/4" heels have shown people I really am short ....

You know it's a late night when you are watching one of your fave movies and you hear a booming announcer say - Do you or a loved one suffer from Mesothelioma. Have you suffered a loss due to Mesothelioma. If so, please call the offices of IHAVENTGOTACLUE, P.A. We can help!"

First of all - I wake up going "What the HECK is mesothelioma" and then, as I'm on a health kick of late, PayPerPost asks us to check out a site about Mesothelioma. Ummmm.. If something else crosses my path concerning this horrid cancer, I'm going to turn into a hypochondriac.

My heart goes out to anyone that does have to deal with this. Godspeed!

"I would Rather Cut Off My Hand..."

That was the line uttered by Mildred Pierce (aka Joan Crawford) after she belted her daughter Veda for being a spoiled, rotten wench. And the movie that gave Joan Crawford an Oscar.

Mildred Pierce is one of those movies I can watch over, and over, and over again. And did. Last Night. TCM had it playing at midnight and I happened to catch it 20 minutes in and was transfixed until 2 this morning. Doesn't matter that I have the DVD. I love that movie. Don't know why, how or what got me even INTO that movie in the first place but, much like A Place In The Sun and Sabrina - those are the classic movies I adore.

So I'm feeling a tad bit tired today but it is oh so worth it!!! I'm sure TCM will play it again - for some Joan Crawford witchiness, it's worth the time.

And yes - this was the movie mentioned in Mommie Dearest. To this day, I don't like even LOOKING at wire hangers…

Videos On Demand...

I have to say - MTV and Music Videos have evolved since the days of the Buggles and Pat Benatar. Things are more complex and intricate and the music labels are not wasting any time in getting videos out to the fans. Videos are a promotional tool however - how can one watch videos when MTV and VH1 rarely PLAY videos anymore. BET is even starting to go down the path - we need a VIDEO channel on DirecTV but if I need to see a video for a track I love, I often check out YouTube.

PayPerPost alerted me to a new service - which houses a TON of videos on the 'net. Not to mention, they will even let you upload parody videos (a little Weird Al fever, ya think), Karaoke - (I'll be safe - thankuverymush!) and indie artists can upload their tracks (JZ - hint hint!). You can create playlists and even works with YouTube. It's pretty user friendly and already during my sojourn at the site I caught the new track from Panic! At The Disco, Kelis' new track and an oldie but a goodie - The Jets with Special Kinda Love!! (MB - I know I know *LOL* but it's still one of my fave tracks of theirs).

Anywayz… take a moment and browse - who knows what treasures you may find...

Taking Me To the Point Of No Return...

It's no big surprise that I adore club/dance *ahem* freestyle music. So, when Perez lets it out that one of my all-time favorite groups are getting back together, EXPOSE, I about bounced OUT of my chair. Their songs, Point of No Return, Come Go With Me, and, that #1 hit - Seasons Change, were in constant rotation back in the day. Many of their songs are STILL on my iPod (great music to work out to). Knowing that these divas are getting back together for a tour is beyond inspiring, especially for the Freestyle Music Community.

Back in the day, when I was just a wee munchkin in high school, I used to write for a paper sponsored by Junior Achievement. One of my first assignments was to interview these three lovely ladies. They were so kind and gracious and it was an interview that helped set me on path to a career in entertainment. A couple years ago, when I flew up north for a charity event, I ran into Gioia and, if you haven't seen the VH1 - Where Are They Now Story yet, let me tell ya - that gal has been through hell and back. She's so down to earth and an absolute blast.

So, if you see that Expose is performing in your area, check 'em out - and bring your dancin' shoes!

Maybe We Shouldn't Know About This...

Since WHEN has Brooke Hogan, *ahem* Brooke become Crunk? Seriously. Her new video "About Us" with Paul Wall is beyond crazed. The day that I believe this gal has a bit of street cred, yeah - that's the day y'all can issue the looney bin citation. Here's my suggestion - get rid of the "grill", give the glasses back to the Hulkster, dance-offs are so yesterday and don't try to come off all hard.

Sometimes, Brooke, people just don't wanna know.

Kitchen Gadgets - Breaking Down the Barriers...

Well, now that I'm on a full out chef's binge, I've found myself taking special interest in various kitchen/cooking sites - i.e., and PayPerPost put me onto another fabulous site, Kitchen Appliance Guide.

I'm a gadget-a-holic. As roomie can attest, if it's a gadget, I'm checking it out. I must have gotten that from my father. When he was down here, he was looking through William Sonoma and Linens 'N Things for juicers. While he did procure a pretty decent one at Macy*s (on sale), I couldn't tell you the first thing about using it and the manual reads like a computer book (and is about the size of one). How does the Food Network make things look so easy??

Lately I've been lusting after a Food Processor and, while my mother offered to send me hers, I'm guessing it’s the one that my dad gave her 20 or so years ago so I need to be prepared to replace, and quick. I have a Cuisinart Mini-Chopper but it just doesn't have that za za zu, ya know. So, in preparation, you know this gal is doing her research. I have an idea of what I'd like to get, but finding a site that breaks it down for the gadget-challenged aka moi, this is a godsend. I've got articles here on tips for choosing the right type of appliance, what to look for, brands and where to buy them online. That's a lot better than my usual "OMG, won't this look FABULOUS in my kitchen" or "Ohhhh.. That color looks pretty". Yeah - I'm not hard to please. No ideas of wattage, blade size, etc. even crosses my blonde brain.

So, if you are on the hunt for a new appliance, whether it be an ice cream maker, smoothie maker or even a blender, Kitchen Appliance Guide may be your one stop intel shop.

What Would You Do?

While on route for my Starbucks sabbatical, one of my earrings decided it was going to make a break for it and had the audacity to actually try to take a plunge down my wrap sweater right into my cleavage.. In front of a group of business men. I'd rather pull an 80's look of the one earring until I was able to retrieve it sans the gawk of said businessmen who already looked like they were due for a frat reunion.

That's what I get for wearing a new set of earrings with this look.

Shaken, not Stirred...

PayPerPost strikes again.... they just continue to tempt me - and with martini glasses no less.

I'm a sucker for barware. Come into my apartment and you will see my hutch/bar fully stocked with stemless (and square) wine glasses, a *few* martini shakers, brandy glasses as well as some high ball/low ball (whatever the hell Mark bought) glasses that I got in my non-divorce. However, when it comes to martini glasses, I think I may have an addiction. Nothing is better for an Egyptian martini* than a swanky glass to drink out of, no?

So, when they tell me that this place has some glasses that are to. die. for. I didn't hesitate. I absolutely adore these glasses and they have some good sets to check out. At this rate, I think I'll need an apartment with a HUGE kitchen/entertaining area. I'll sleep on the porch. And - if you don't mind, I'll have my Egyptian martini shaken, not stirred please :)

*Egyptian Martini - from Club Egypt in Philly - Chambord, Absolut and a dash of Triple Sec - finish it off with a cherry - divine!!*

Imelda Who...

Well, thanks to mah diva, D., this gal got a coupon for Nine West and I wound up using it to the point of shame. I went in there looking for these boots because I refused to pay the $139.00 price tag. Well, they were on sale. Plus - with the coupon -- an extra 15% off. How could I say no? Then I saw these in black. And it was love at first touch. And they were also on sale. And with the coupon, an extra 15% off.

In the interest of further confession - I just bought a pair of Jessica Simpson shoes - sorry Reese - they were too cute.

I'm going to shoe hell, one day. But at least my feet will be pretty!!

*if anyone else wants a copy of the coupon, let me know - I'll send it to you. It expires tomorrow so hurry quick!!

No sooner than I fall in love with a red Le Creuset pot and start my collection, then I get an email from Bed, Bath & Beyond that they also carry my beloved brand AND they have a color that I adore, CHESTNUT. Just when I make a decision, out comes a new and improved version *sigh*. No to mention, BBB doesn't belong to Ebates or FatWallet. *double sigh*

Red and Brown coordinate, right? I know I know... put back the credit card...

The Royal Flush...

Well, this week I succumbed. After having one too many *blah* moments with my normal regular fragrances, I felt like I needed a little new blood. I couldn't decide between Vera Wang's latest offering, "Princess" or the new scent from Philosophy. After a few sniffs of the two, I felt that Princess was a tad more *grown up* and less "Love's Lemon" or something from Junior High which is what Philosphy, The Fragrance reminded me of.

Plus - who doesn't want to feel like the princess they are. And it has a crown no less.

Sometimes You Just Want to Take it All Back...

Have you ever hear the lyrics to a song, I mean REALLY heard the lyrics and it releases a dam of emotions? I finally listened to the lyrics to Christina Aguilera's track, "Hurt" and it struck a chord. A chord that I thought was buried so deep that it would never surface.

There isn't a day that I don't think of my dear friend Nick, even for a brief second. When he died, it felt like I lost a part of myself. I've been so caught up in the bullshit of late, it dawned on me tonight that Nick will have been gone 8 years in November. 8 years of wanting to tell him "I'm sorry". 8 years of regret. 8 years of knowing that I should always trust my instinct. 8 years of regretting choosing believing Mark over him since I wanted so badly for things to stay on an even keel. 8 years of continuing a fight that should have never happened, just because I'm a bitch sometimes.

I'm not a fan of the coulda, shoulda, wouldas but in thinking about what would one do if they had one more day with someone they lost, I think I would just want some time to tell him I'm sorry and that I love him. I never had to make any apologies or try to be something i wasn't with Nick. I could be a moody little bitch and he would just roll his eyes and tell me to get over it. He could be candid with me and I loved him for it. He drove me to learn things about myself I didn't know were there and pushed me out of my shell. He taught me to be strong and not put up with crap like when Mark threw me through a window. Unfortunately it took me 2 more years to tell Mark where to go. It took Nick's death to show me that I was in a situation that was beyond horrid and I needed an escape hatch.

I think if I knew then what I know now, I'd have done things a lot differently. I've learned that I can survive, but there are times that something would happen that he would appreciate and I would just want to call him. Or when I want to play pool - that he would let me win, reluctantly of course, while grinning like a mad devil.

Nick was a part of me that I can never explain. My life has changed sooooo drastically from back then. I've gotten out of the hellacious relationship. I've changed my life around and gotten stronger. I've lost over 70 lbs and finally discovered the real *me*. I've learned that while I can be stubborn, I won't hold a grudge as long as I used to - it's not worth a lifetime of regret. That doesn't mean I'm a pushover, I just will address the problems facing me and work out a resolution. I've learned to choose my friends wisely. I've learned to listen to my instinct, because that never lies.

I'm sure tomorrow will be back to the frou/frou regular programming, but tonight, I really wanted to let go. Let go of the pain, the hurt, the regret and while I know I will never have a time machine, I know that he is looking down watching over all of us with that smirk of his, shaking his head and laughing. I'm sure he knows how much we all love and miss him and how blessed we were for having him in our lives, even if it was for a brief moment. And, like he told me once "Hold out for the brass ring, Ly because it is RIGHT there".

HURT - Christina Aguilera

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were, but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today Ooh, ooh
I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again
Sometimes I wanna call you
But I know you won't be there
Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you
Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide 'cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye
When it comes to this, oooh
Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help me understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes
And see you looking back
Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself, ohh
If I had just one more day
I would tell you how much that I've missed you
Since you've been away
Ooh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
To try and turn back time
I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you

YourSpace, His Space, Everyone - MySpace...

Nowadays, it seems like everyone and their mother is up on MySpace. Granted, I'm not like many of my friends and "redecorate" my MySpace on the daily/weekly/monthly. I mostly seem to stay on an even keel. However, after viewing the new video over at Single Ma's blog, (I love that song... To The Left, To The Left), I want to do a little re-arranging, shall we say.

PayPerPost suggested that I review this site: and, much to my surprise, there are a few cute layouts on there. There's a Playboy one which I know mah girl Am at work will love. There is a Juicy Couture Layout that one of the Divas, D. will adore, an Aloha Layout for Roomie and, for me, I might be lookin at something a little more "me". I'm lovin' some teal and chocolate colors and I might have to go dark.. Just because… AND here's the kicker - Ashley, the site designer TAKES REQUESTS. If you want a little customization, she's got the hook-up.

So, if you have a moment, check it out - you might find something that will make your MySpace, really YOUR Space...

Choices, Choices EVERYWHERE...

Michelle (along with many of my other friends) will probably shoot me so I won't disclose my new find yet - however, I can tell you I may have found something that is on par, if not surpasses, Ebates & Fat Wallet. I'm testing the theory... stay tuned.

Who knows - this new site and I may have a difference of opinion - we'll see. Let's just say for the holiday shopping season - Ebates & FatWallet got some stiff competition.

New Discovery - KiKi James...

It's that Time Again..

The holiday shopping season train is out of the station and barreling down the tracks. As it's already October, one might find their thoughts wandering to unique gifts for their loved ones for the Holidays.

PayPerPost alerted me to one store that has some of the hottest leather goods that might be a place to bookmark when the holiday shopping season gets underway - Kiki James. Now, they are London based, but don't let that deter you. Their goods appear to be well crafted, and I know, i.e. Reese has a journaling habit so this leather journal might be perfect for her. My father is looking for a leather wallet, so this little lovely might be the gift of choice for him. Now, not to leave myself out, I've got my eye on THIS. So cute, non?

Home Security - No Longer Optional...

I live in an apartment complex by Disney that, back in the day, was pretty good. Lately, since the complex has traded hands to a new management company, I've noticed that the clientele is WAY different, things around the complex are less than pleasant and I'm not making any plans on renewing my lease here. We've had an upsurge of crime in Orlando from armed home invasions to B&Es to Rapes and it's getting a little scary, to say the least. Let's not even talk about the murder rate. Watching the news is a daily depressing thing that HAS to be done around here. No Disney bubbles for this chick.

Our complex will NOT let us install a home security system. They are confident that their doors and the deadbolt is enough. I, however, beg to differ. The lease agreement even has provisions in that in the event that a crime or accident happen on property, they, in no way, are liable and our insurance company is. Not their insurance company - the tenant's insurance company. Lately, it seems like every other day we get a flyer saying "A crime has been reported in this apartment community. Blah blah blah" all with the reminder that, in the event a crime occurs, they again are not liable. Give. Me. A Break.

I would feel much more secure in a complex that takes better care of their tenants and looks out for their safety. That's one of the first things on my check list (besides, walk in closet, cute location, dishwasher & w/d hookups). I'm researching the criminal activity of the areas within the apartment communities that I'm looking into. Meowmix & BR are consulted before I even make appointments because I trust their decisions when it comes to security. If I know Meowmix, she will Nikita the location, have the particulars AND tell me her "It's safe" or it’s a "NO NO NO" before I even go meet with the complex managers.

PayPerPost put me onto a great service that I'm going to look into a little more in-depth - Home Security. Everything here from choosing an alarm system, to Neighborhood watches and Homeowner's Insurance. There's even a section on Apartment/Condo security.

I think I've got one of my bases covered now. If only Meowmix could decorate ;)

This is Why I'm Banned from Makeup Counters...

I just can't "look" and not "buy".

Prime Example - last night, traipse into Bloomingdales and walk through the shoe department. Look, pick up a couple shoes and put them down and walk towards the exit to the mall - then it catches my eyes like a neon sign in Vegas - Bobbi Brown. I figured, "Oh - I'll go take a peek at the new diamond dust eye shadows everyone is talking about". Yeah - just a peek right? I walk out of there with the new Rockstar Diamond Dust, 2 bottles of the Ruby nail polish from the Sparkles & Rubies holiday collection that is almost sold out and was almost victim to a bottle of Vera Wang Princess.

Yeah - makeup counters and me - not a good thing. Thank god Bloomingdales in Orlando doesn't carry Smashbox anymore - I'd wind up cleaning out the place.

Disney – Is it Worth It…

Well, PayPerPost wanted some thoughts regarding DisneyWorld and Florida Holidays and, since I live in the Land of the Rat, I’m willing to give you some insider 411:

Here’s a few things I’ve learned while living here:

  • Disney is in it to make money, period. So, once you realize that they are going to upsell you at EVERY turn, you are one up on them and you have control. Instead, stay firm and fast to whatever you decide to buy. Don't let them talk you into buying the Princess Wand, Gown, Tiara and Oh - those Shoes and Purse for your little princess.
  • Realize that the lines for the ride are long midday to evening. Try to go in the morning.
Also – please pay attention to the ride operators – we’ve had way too many accidents lately with people NOT using common sense. They tell you to sit down – sit DOWN.
  • It might not be a good idea to eat that “turkey” *ahem Emu* leg.
  • Don’t gawk if you see Will Smith, a member of N*Sync, Ricky Martin OR some other celeb being escorted by a VIP host to the front of the line. They got it like that.
  • Also, don’t heckle said celeb. Roomie told me once how Will Smith & Jada just waited in line like regular folks to get their pics at the Photo place at the beginning of the park. They just are regular folk, y’all (with a bigger bank account than moi but I’ll quit my gripin’).
  • Bongos at Downtown Disney is the shitznit!!! Fabulous Mojitos. Fabulous Food. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait – well worth it.
  • Patience is a virtue – realize that the people who work at Disney and the surrounding areas are often poorly paid (minimum wage, mostly), treated like crap and have no benefits. So when they smile and tell you about the “Disney Magic”, show a little mercy – don’t be a bitch.
  • For the Photo Labs: Realize that if the photo looks like crap or your child has made a horrid face when taking said pic is not the developer’s fault. Please have mercy on the workers.
  • Do your research – sure, you can stay in Kissimmee and go to the parks during the day, but realize that you might wake up to the possibility of a “Palmetto bug” waving good morning on the pillow adjoining yours. Expedia and Priceline are always a good thing for getting good hotel deals on Disney property.
  • Downtown Disney has some good clubs, but the drinks are pricey. Want a little karaoke action – check out Lake Buena Vista’s own Jungle Jim’s. Cheaper prices and still tons of fun.
  • Realize that it is gonna rain almost daily between the hours of 3 – 7 during hurricane season. It rains for about 10 minutes and then VOOSH – it’s over. SO, pack an umbrella.
  • From now until March – the weather is BEAUTIFUL but for us Orlando peeps, it can get chilly at night – hey – if it hits 60 degrees, brrrrrr – our blood has thinned.

I could go on, and on, and on, but I best stop here. Have a Magical Time!!!!

Jumpin' Jumpin'....

Well, you know how I said my credit scored *dropped* just like that thanks to a bad financial decision back in the day with H. Well, I go to pull my score with one of the other bureaus today only to find it jumped up 31 points. On my other bureau's report - it's the same and I'm awaiting a notice of "Your score has gone up" through Equifax (Hate those S.O.B.s). I paid off two credit cards last month and I'm still in "negotiations" with that particular company as they have been my oldest card and I want to keep my score on an even keel. My goal is to have it jump up 100 points by this time next year. In time - all in due time.

Hmmm… that's rather inspiring and makes me think twice about purchasing some fabulous shoes from Nordstroms.

Mojitos Anyone...

Now this is something that is after my own heart... a Mojito set. I know, I know - I'm more of a martini type of gal (Cosmos, Egyptian, Chai, Espresso), but being that I'm in Florida, I've learned to appreciate the Mojito. I had my first Mojito when I was in Miami 4 years ago on my first trip for WMC and damn that drink packs a whallop. That, along with some kick a$$ cuban food - hot damn!

However, I have YET to master making this drink myself. So, PayPerPost put up an opp to investigate this little Mojito set, I was intrigued. This looks like something that would be great for a holiday gift (i.e. Sarah or Lushy perhaps), or for when I throw a housewarming soiree at the new digs (hey - a gal HAS to plan ahead!)...and it has the recipe and a muddler.. not a bad idea.

So, Mojitos anyone?

Why Does Everything Have to be @*!@*# Complicated?

I get this message that I can't download 2 of my pre-orders from iTunes thanks to the fact that I don't have Version 2million & 2 (really 7.0.1). So, it's now been 40 minutes and it's JUST downloading artwork for EACH purchase I ever made - can we say "UGH".

I've got half a mind to tell Apple where to put it. (And I don't think they will like me much after that discussion). And they want me to buy a new colorful music device player... hmmmm.. let me think about that...

Coupon Chief Hits Again...

I swear - I'd be lost without this little service. I've really taken to maximizing my online dollar and CouponChief is a fabulous little helper when it comes to bargain hunting.

It saved my butt this week when I was on the hunt for my Dolce Vita lipstick from NARS. I got free shipping and some $$ off my purchase from

When I was in Home Goods tonight, I was swayed to pick up a couple utensils that I needed for my Parmesan Mashed Potatoes that I saw on Food Network yesterday. However, I thought twice and, sure enough, there's a coupon on there for Linens 'N Things for $$$ off my purchase AND I get to pick up my order, whereby saving on shipping.

For that DVD I will be getting soon of La Femme Nikita (Season 5), well, there's a coupon for Best Buy - again saving $$ AND saving on shipping by In-Store pick up.

Last week I had to get a USB cable for my new printer, saving money at Circuit City with online coupon thanks to Coupon Chief and in-store pick up

And so on and so on. So, when PayPerPost asked if I'd talk a bit on my experience with CouponChief, I'm more than happy to -it's fabu and after my Ebates or FatWallet decisions, you can rest assured that I got an online coupon from

Give it a try - you'll see. Its more bang for your online buck. Which, of course, leaves more money for shoes.... or a pot... or that Nars Body Glow... or...

Weekend Update...

Hmmm.. nothing earth shattering happened this week, just an onslaught of the plague, I mean flu. I've run out of Nyquil and, as my nana would say, "Stuff a cold, starve a fever" - the fever about done did this gal in.

However, one thing did happen this weekend that about pissed me the hell off. I got a call from an editor that never had ANY dealings with me before, had 2 months to call me and calls me at 11:30 at night. Mind you, I'm sick, irritated and wondering who the hell is ringing my phone off the damn hook only to hear someone address me like they know me. What. The. #$*@?!?!?!

Needless to say, after asking him to look at the time, I told him to call at a more "dignified hour" i.e. midday today. Don't you know, he called today over an hour late from when he was supposed to call. (1 hour and 2 months late more like it). That is why this gal loves voicemail. You can bet that his publisher (and my client) will get an earful tomorrow as will Mr. Newbie Editor. This is one of those times, as Roomie said, he done messed with the wrong gal. He will, however, think twice before calling someone that late at night. Tough Love, people. Tough Love! ;)

Be Aggressive - Be Be Aggressive...

I'm taking control of my financial future. With all that's happened in the past year, and knowing I'm moving upward and onward in a few months (new apartment, new section of town, determined to get my FICO in check), I'm adapting a new aggressive spending/saving strategy. (Yes I watched Big Spender on A&E and don't want that guy on my doorstep). I've gotten rather "lax" lately and I'm putting down the stiletto. See, as of February 1st, I need to find a new apartment, have the Grammys on February 7th AND somewhere in the holidays/chaos, I need to pack, streamline and declutter ALL parts of my life.

  • Cutting down on the spending. Yes, I'm still loving my Starbucks, but for my Barnes & Noble magazine runs, but I have to need, want and HAVE to have.
  • Streamlining my closet. Anything that I don't love, adore, and am committed to rockin' will either go on Ebay, charity or to the garbajjjeee. That includes the clothing that is falling off me. When it comes to new clothes, the quality is key - not necessarily the quantity. I prefer to have something that will last for some time.
  • Cooking at home. What's the use of having new pretty pots if I don't use them? Not to mention the plates I had to have at Target. Those plates are not for holding "Taco Bell" or that mess. I can eat out once or twice a week (including lunch at work). The rest - this wench is cookin'.
  • Taking control of the utilities (Ummm.. Hello - electric bill this MONTH was $141.00. The cat does NOT need air conditioning and the lights need to be shut off - doing laundry for just a couple clothes - nope - ain't gonna happen and I'm pulling the plugs on a bunch of shiate tonight. Energy saving control on the dryer is fabulous and must be used.)
  • Phone bill - so gone. Definitely gone. Vonage is getting put into place THIS WEEK.
  • Cell Phone Bill - well that's a given expense - just making sure that there are no "extras", ya know. I don't necessarily need new ringtones - I already have JZ's new track on there.
  • Paying off the credit cards. I'm aggressively starting to pay down the balances. I'm using some of the savings to send those balances spiraling downward. It's starting to panic one bank where they are apologizing profusely for hiking my rate and "jumping to conclusions" without being more informed about my credit report issues.
  • Fighting the forever long battle with the Credit Reporting Agencies. What lazy *#!@*, ya know. They need to check their information. Also, I've learned that when you dispute, it does lower your score a bit, but considering that a lazy azz credit bureau listed my FATHER as my SPOUSE - that mess needed to be corrected, and quick.
  • Increasing my ING balance, whereby building my emergency fund
  • Decluttering the house (again, what I don't need, love, have to have or has serious sentimental value - EBAY, charity or garbajjjjjjjjeee.)
  • Putting off the Annual Lys birthday travels with Meowmix til 2007 and doing one big HURRAH in May. Plus - I'm 35. I'm trying to get old quietly ;)

How am I doing all of the above?

  • I'm taking about 7 bux weekly out of my bank (a dollar a day), plus another 31 dollars a month and putting that in ING.
  • I'm also putting regular transfers to the tune of $200 a month in ING AND about $50 a month in my standard bank savings account.
  • Also, I've committed to putting $60 bux or so a month in Sharebuilder.
  • I've got the 401(k) on overdrive, using my FlexSpend accounts for medical crap (and lowering my taxable income).
  • Any money I've earned from EBay, PayPerPost, Ebates, FatWallet etc. goes STRAIGHT to ING. Do not stop. Do Not Pass Go. Do Not Get a Get Out Of Jail Free Card.
  • Holiday Bonus & money generated from not using up all alloted sick days - money straight to the bank.
  • Raise - also goes into the bank - I need to maintain focus on my budget.

That's over $360 a month that I'm committing to saving. That's about 6 pairs of shoes from Nine West. Or, in my mindset now, 1/5 of the payment towards my new living room set.
And when it's done, I'll have a shiny new apartment, an emergency fund, a new living room set, a fabulous (yet economical - if THAT is possible) trip to LA and the Grammys (the tix prices are outrageous) AND I might, just might, treat myself to a pair of shoes.

Keep your fingers crossed.

How Cute is This...

Cooking about 9/10 years ago was not my forte. When I got my first kitchen, I was able to decorate it in any way I wanted. Bec & I went through a flea market and I found the CUTEST apple jar that started my obsession with having apples throughout the kitchen. Mind you, I took it to ridiculous levels - there were paintings of apples, apples on the plates, apples on the jars - apples, apples, apples. (Thinking back - I must have gotten that from my mom because when I was younger, she redecorated our kitchen in all pineapples after a trip to Williamsburg - to this day, I cannot look at pineapple decorations without a nervous twitch… eeks!)

Living here in Orlando with roommates, I don't have as much freedom decorating wise, and my apple items are in storage up north. However, after my red dutch oven purchase the other day, I've sparked this whole obsession with Le Creuset and red cookware. I find that things look very pretty when they kinda match. However, I don't think I'll decorate my new kitchen with apples (tho I will keep that first Apple Jar), and many of the items that are remaining will find new homes via Ebay/Charity/Garbage.

I think I need to put the breaks on the acquiring of new pretty things until I get my new apartment and find the kitchen. Well, maybe I'll start putting the breaks on tomorrow - after I get this adorable tartin pan. It's red AND of both worlds, ya think?
