Shoe Lust: L.A.M.B. v. Bakers...

Don't ask me WHY I adore these - I just do. I can't fathom the rhyme or reason. They aren't timeless, they are absolutely trendy and I think that these shoes are, as Stacy London would say, pure "Sex on a Stiletto".

L.A.M.B. "TAMMY"

Luckily for my wallet there is "replica" that is almost the daggone same (and no - it wasn't made by Jessica Simpson. Reese would SHOOT me). Check out the Bakers version...

Bakers "BERKLEY"

That just might leave me some $$$ to actually save towards the pair of L.A.M.B. shoes I am lusting after horribly

L.A.M.B.'s Tailynn...

That sound of distant wailing you hear - that's my closet screaming. :::sigh:::

Oh Hot Damn - This Is My Jam...

I am a fan of the remix. Sure, here in Orlando one can listen to big corporate radio logo where they program the music in Texas regardless of what is hot in EACH market *cough cough* I'm not commenting on what I'm really thinking after my dealings with them in the past *cough cough* but in all reality, I prefer to keep my stations to those that aren't as corporate or even better - remixes from some seriously great DJS. I've been fortunate to deal with some killer

One of the DJs I adore is DJ Riddler - one of the nicest DJs I ever had to deal with back in the day. I think I waxed poetic on his crew's remix of my new summer theme song - Livvi Franc's "Now I'm That Bitch" (which, btw - Rich was nice enough to tell me y'all can pick it up at
RatedH.net.) Well, if you are a fan of a good mix that will get you movin' around - his crew Booth Pimps give a monthly remix out for download and oh-em-gee this month's remix is SIZZLING hot!

You can find all the download intel over at the
BoothPimps site here. All I can say is this mix will be blarin' from the car as I'm flyin' to work.

Reasons Why One Should Never Date A Bartender...

There are a few rules that I tend to go by when it comes to dating that I have learned along the way. They are:

  • Don't date where I work;
  • Don't date anyone in the entertainment industry (this includes DJs too);
  • Lawyers and firemen need not apply (sorry SSG!); and
  • NEVER date bartenders.

I know, I know - it sounds harsh but I've learned from either my personal experiences or by observing friends in the same situation. I'm friends with a number of the above people but to date them - like that classic song states - "Ain't No Way." I'd rather keep the friendship. Plus, if you look at my ex history, most are either military or cops. That's just how I roll...

Back in the day, I used to work for a promoter and we'd work with various bars around Massachusetts and Connecticut. While fun times were definitely had, I got quite the observation view when it came to people who hit on the bouncer, bartender, dj, etc. The stories they would tell - we'll just have to leave that for another day (and I'll work on bribing Bren, Bec or one of my other buddies to disclose in a later post.) But the bartender story I also know on a personal level with someone we'll call "Shotboy". Shotboy worked in a bar in Massachusetts that Meowmix drug me to after the nasty breakup with Mark. She thought that her buddy Damian would take my mind off of things and, instead, well it was his roommate Shotboy that kept me distracted. Many an interesting night was had at The Palace. However, I knew that Shotboy was not the dateable type. Shotboy had one too many "distractions" vying for his attention. Not to mention, had I fallen hard like some of the drunk girls I'd see throwing themselves at Damian and crew, Meowmix would have quickly slapped me upside my head and reminded me that dating a shotboy/bartender is just not feasible. It just doesn't happen. You enjoy your time and part ways. Simple enough.

Now, speaking of bartenders - there is one bartender that I find utterly hilarious - Ant. Meowmix has affectionately dubbed him "Eye Candy." Ant is the quintessential Philly boy - and the girls know it. Don't get me wrong -he's a great guy and all, but still - the man would be perfect as either an FBI Profiler or a bartender when it comes to reading people. Whenever I'm in Philly at one of my fave spots, the girls there tend to be quite fond of all things Ant. So it surprised me a bit when I got the following Facebook text* as to his status late Saturday.

Wait a minute - he's in a packed bar that is one the hottest joints in Philly on a weekend and he needs to send out a Facebook status like that?!?!? (Sidenote: How many phone calls/texts did he get with offers from his extensive friends list - hmmm.) Ant is the type of guy who, when he's out and about, he can chat with a girl for a hot minute and next thing you know, she's falling over herself to keep his attention. Don't even get me started on the girls that frequent that joint. So I got suspicious that, perhaps, Ant did what he often does - leaves the beloved iPhone on the bar and someone's being a wiseass or, perhaps, he was "just putting it out there."

Either way - the above exchange can be incorporated into my argument of "Don't Date a Bartender". The girls who throw themselves at bartenders are a funny lot. They take it to a whole new level sometimes. There have been many a night when I'm working a gig and the girls are all a twitter with "Oh my god, did you see how he passed that drink to me? He's totally into me." or "Is he looking at me?" as they flip their hair all around like a daggone Pantene commercial. Let's not even talk about the drunk girls who sit at the bar giving the bartender's customers the side eye because he should be paying them attention and not the customers. Perhaps they are thinking that the Bartender will be like Steve from S&TC and sweep them off their feet like he did with Miranda. HOWEVER, 9 times out of 10, that isn't the case, especially with bartenders working in some of the popular clubs.

Ladies, let's be frank - basically the bartender has a job to do. However, remember to tip him nicely, order lots of drinks and - for the love of god, don't date him. You can mess around with him and it is what it is - but I'm of the belief that you don't hang on hopes for something long term.

As Samantha once counseled Charlotte in an ep. of S&TC: "Hang on honey, you don't fall in love with Mr. [Bartender]. You enjoy him and then set him free."

Meet Mini-Bout...

The Loubous arrived on Saturday and, oh my heavens, they are gorgeous - a rich chocolate brown that just is set off perfectly against the red peep toe. Granted the cell phone pic quality sucks compared to the in person view as evidenced by a co-worker's loud exclamation of "SHUT UP" when she saw the telltale red sole. My slow preparation of advancing to 4"+ heels over the past year helped me adjust to the height of these lovelies so I wasn't walking like a baby calf taking her first steps. I was meant for Loubous - of that I'm sure.

Ahhhhh - there is no going back, my friends. Trust me I'll be wearing the living daylights out of these shoes but even FB of Fashionably Broke In The City would be proud of the deal I scored...

However, it dawned on me that I mentioned that I would get Mini Bout Peep Toes by CL in 2009 as part of my "Secret" goals. Little did I know that I would find the exact shoes I've been lusting after that just happened to be in my size at the right time and the right price. I'm blessed indeed...

Listen to This: Livvi Franc - "Now I'm That Bitch"...

I SWEAR this is going to be my theme song - it's crazy hot. I've had it on repeat since one of my fave DJs - The Riddler remixed it for his crew the Booth Pimps and included it in his April podcast. Check out the track by Livvi Franc - Now I'm That Bitch...

Definitely one of those tracks that a particular boy or two should listen to... not that I'm callin' 'em out by name...

The Choice...

After my morning "Oh Em Gee - Look at this Manolo. I Die" email this morning (Daggone you Barneys, Neimans, Saks etc.), I do what I always do - forward it to Meowmix to go "I'm in Love." Now, granted when it comes to Manolo v. Loubou, well, they both are high up on my list.

Her response - "Ummmm... when did we graduate to $700 shoes"

Well, that would be today. I've had my eye on these gorgeous brown mini-peep toe Loubou pumps that were only a fraction of the price for the originals. The clock was ticking and, after multiple debates, emails to Meowmix, Kar, SL and crew, I had to make a decision. I originally rationalized it as "Well, if it crosses my path again, I'll pay attention". Couple that with "If I get cash back, I'll think twice" and, sure enough - it came across my path again WITH 3% cash back and these were the real deal. After that, it was down to a choice of "Shoes or TV" to replace the tv I had which is not working as well as it used to. Well, my inner Carrie Bradshaw won that debate. (Kar suggested I go with the shoes since I need to buy the TV after I move. TV and moving truck could equal breakage.) So, don't mind me as I immediately go into hiding after I stalk the mailman for my Loubous which are on their way to my hot not-so-little feet.

I'm so sorry FB. They were too good of a deal to resist and I'm back on e-Fund discipline tomorrow. Pinky swear!

Missin' My Peeps...

I've told y'all how the day to day here is a nightmare, right? Well, that's putting it mildly. Too much to do and not enough time in the day to get it all done. So, pretty much my life is on hold for a bit while I crunch down and get crackin' to hit deadlines.

Last night, a bunch of my Philly crew had one hell of a get-together, including a concert by the one and only K7/TKA. I really wanted to go but decided to play responsible gal and stay here in Orlando. My reasoning was that I just can't wing to Philly on a whim anymore with the schedule I have, the dog & cat and financial saving that I'm committed to.

Looking at the photos, I'm really kickin' myself in the butt for NOT going but you know what - there will be other get-togethers, there always are. It just makes me thankful that I've had such a great group of people in my life for the past 20 years. I'll be home soon enough...

Wiggs & Hellcat: Truce On The Horizon??

Well there's been some progression in the Lys' household this week towards brokering the Furball/Mutt 2009 Peace Treaty. What it took, however, was every last iota of energy that I had.

Last week, when I took a nap with Shadow and wouldn't let him in the bedroom as she just got back from the vet, Wiggs decided, in a fit of retaliation, "Eff You Mama!" to lift his leg near the Cole Haan. How. Dare. He. Not to mention he's been acting like a devil dog since his grandpa left.

Much like a mother at wits' end with two horrible 2 year olds, the other night, I threw them both out of the bedroom and told them "You are going to go live with Grandpa if you two don't work this out - NOW! Understand?" Next thing I know, Shadow's laying down in the living room not scared of the dog; the dog isn't chasin' her just giving her the eyeball and she's actually enjoying her home. There have been a few chase scares but less drama than normal.

Even last night, she cracked me up, as evidenced by this picture (sorry - the blackberry quality sucks at night). She came out of her "luxury suite" to inquire as to what the hell the dog was doing. His response - he started chewin' his daggone bone while staring her down. She stared him down - he got up and went to go get water and she held her ground. She did, however hiss at him and he decided "Eff You Shadow!" and went back to his bone and his toys.

Perhaps there really is miracles or they are up to something ala Pinky and the Brain planning on overtaking the apartment.

UPDATE: Apparently I spoke too soon - this morning, as Wiggs and returned from his morning constitutional, Shadow was sprawled out across the floor in front of his path, staring at him with a look that said "Bitch - JUST TRY IT." Next thing I know, Wiggs is rushing after her even after the leash is still attached. Ugh. Ignore the massively messy Dog Toys everywhere. I can't seem to get him to learn "Put them back by your bed when you are done." It's an ongoing process.

Listen To This: Painted Windows by the Pussycat Dolls...

Candice Nicole in the City posted a track by the Pussycat Dolls, Painted Windows, that I happened to find via Twitterfeed. Well, after hearing it, I had to purchase it for morning workouts. I have always said that the production behind the Pussycat Dolls rocks - the album, Doll Domination, is full of hits and they never fail to bring dance beats to the forefront. This one is produced by Osinachi, a producer that used to be with Rodney Jerkins and now is producing some fab tracks of his own.
Give it a listen - you won't be disappointed. Trust!
