S&TC Wisdom To Kick Off 2007...

Carrie: When you're young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun, then you grow up and learn to be cautious; you could break a bone, or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don't leap at all because there's not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there is no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?

27 Days...

As my shocked dulled last night from finally realizing that yes, I did get the apartment, it dawned on me - I have 27 days until the move. 27 days until I have a new lease on life. 27 days til I have a shiny new apartment with a wine rack (and will have to buy wine to go in said rack). 27 days to pack up my life. Wait - 27 days???

Cue Panic Attack now:

In that time I need to pack up the apartment, sort through all the mess, clutter and crap from 5 years, the non-divorce, etc.; find a reliable moving company, interview said moving company, get the utilities turned on (and in Orlando - they all require deposits so there goes what little emergency fund $$$ I have - time to replenish), get plenty (and I mean Plenty) of boxes and selling stuff on eBay - yeah - so not happening. There will be no time for that unless I get everything listed this weekend and give it a 5 day and that's it - if it's not sold, it's going out that door to charity, friends, etc. Maybe that's an idea - have a bunch of stuff and tell my friends to stop by and take what they want.

That on top of preparing for a major work project, a business trip on January 30 - Feb 10th (can you say drop my stuff and go?), JZ's album, Roomie's b'day, the dismantling and disposal of the Christmas tree, packing of ornaments, Shadow's impending doctor's visit & "spa day" aka bath (that cat will NOT go to the new apartment without getting herself all shiny and cute), and somehow - I need to find time to to pack? 3 to 4 boxes a day is my goal and my menus for the next month will be planned from what's in the freezer & pantry so I can scale that down and replenish after I settle in. Thank god for Tivo - I'll be able to clean that out while packin'.

So, since I have 1/2 a personal day to take off before I lose it, I'm taking part of the afternoon off today to pick up boxes, tape, supplies, sharpies, and newspapers, tootle around my new town of Altamonte Springs and perhaps in my wandering, I'll pick up some some wine.
Because a gal can't pack without a glass of Pinot, right?

Got Style...

DirecTV has finally headed the call of Fashionistas in Training everywhere - they have added the STYLE channel. I discovered this little gem while going online to pay my bill (ahead of time *ahem - early start to Resolution 2007) and find out the info on moving my service... and *bam* Channel 235.

I'm one happy, happy gal - Food Network, Fine Living and Style all within the same area... Oh Mr. Tivo....

The Search Is Over...

Well, as y'all know, my past with Mark & H. did some damage to my credit report to where I'm pulling it out of hell and it's a long, slow, labored process. I've been thrilled to see my score jump up and paying my bills is always first on my mind, even before shoes *gasp*. I've stated that 2007 is going to be a great financial year for this gal, and nothing - let me stress N.O.T.H.I.N.G. will be in my way towards the accomplishment of my goals.

One of my main dramas has been moving. I've been far from happy at my prior complex - with the lovely new **** dealer 2 bldgs down, the overrun of "interesting" people, and just overall drama with the complex management. As it was an "income guideline community", I made too much and didn't succumb to the Rat's plan of keeping everyone down (because, god forbid if you make above minimum wage in Disney) so if I was going to get my own place, this place was already out of the running.

I had my eye on this new place in Altamonte - with a security system, fireplace, ceramic tile throughout, but sadly it had a small kitchen. They were a previously "income guideline community" but since they put $96 mil into renovations, I received assurances that there would be nooo problems. I told them upfront of my credit repair woes, and was brutally honest. They had me apply last week and *viola* wait - no.... not good - I was D.E.N.I.E.D. Not only that, they had me apply online (which only cost me $9.95 rather than their $145 application fee) and then rather than call me and cancel the meeting, the rep decided to tell me that she SENT A LETTER the day before. Whatever.

My dad was in town, so we tootled around Altamonte looking at complexes. I have some great friends who said "You wanna live on this side, not that side. You want to live by this area. Ask for blah blah blah", and their guidance paid off. I had a Plan "B" but when I drove around that particular complex, it was literally an Altamonte version of my complex I'm in in Orlando (We'll call my current complex "LBV").

Well, around 1:00, something hit me - I know everything happens for a reason and there was a reason I did not get into the Fireplace complex behind the mall.. just didn't know yet as to why that was. Well, 2 complexes down, I decided to turn into a complex that I had always noticed while passing. Upon driving in, I saw locked iron gates everywhere - Plus. I went into the office and met with the rep who was beyond friendly. Mind you they are closing at 2:00 and she still wanted to show me around. The rents in Phase I (old construction) were okay, a bit less than the fireplace complex ($900), but I looked at it and it was okay except people would have to go through my bedroom for the bathroom. Nope. Now, she took me to another one in Phase II which is all new construction, concrete and not wood framing (plus), it was a third floor (free workout I guess), vaulted ceilings, BIG kitchen - and I mean BIG kitchen, big bathroom with a separate shower, dual sinks, roman bath, decent size bedroom, great porch, sunroom (aka my office/Shadow's room), laundry room WITH washer/dryer, and living room WITH entertainment center. Here's another plus - THERE'S A SECURITY SYSTEM!!! Not to mention, the people are friendly, they have a full gym, a pool with a jacuzzi, and just an amazing complex. I didn't want to get my hopes up, looked around for a new Plan B while my application was being considered and *bam* Yesterday happens...

The rep told me that the LBV complex was not cooperating. The new complex sent over stuff immediately to LBV and LBV wouldn't complete them nor give them adequate information as to why. The person holding up the process of me getting a yay or nay was the assistant manager and, if you met the arrogant *#*@# in the LBV complex, you'd see why I saw red. I called him yesterday on the way home to find out what his problem was as I was caught in traffic and, getting to the complex office before 6 was not possible. I had originally planned on going in and having a bit of a "come to Jesus" meeting with the fools, but phone would have to suffice. After hearing his crap about "Oh I never got it" and stuff like "Well I can't talk to these people on the PHONE" which to me was a load of crap, I finally said "Please, do what you need to do and I'll also call and let's get this process moving". I didn't yell. I didn't scream. I didn't threaten his job, first born, etc. I also was privy to the knowledge that one of the reps implied that I never gave notice (which was farther from the truth - I gave more than the requisite 60 day notice and they gave me crap because a certified legal letter wasn't "sufficient" under their terms of Florida law and I had to fill out their crappy little form). So, knowing that diarrhea of the mouth from these guys could be a possible violation of Florida statutes (hello people - I do work with a law firm *doh*), I was ready to wage battle. Thank god the new complex understood the level of idiocy that LBV provided and they commented "Is THIS what you have to deal with" prompting me to respond "Welcome to MY hell".

Finally - LBV complied, I spoke with the new complex and they said "Welcome Home!" and my move in date is January 24th. My credit was shaky (but they already knew that), I had great employment and rental history and, even better, I have a brain. This could be the beginning of a prosperous relationship, people.

Well, after I buy the furniture, of course. Now I just have to register for housewarming goodies.

This is Why They Call Them Holiday Cards...

Gotta love the post office - I got the holiday cards in from Kodak too late to send them out for Christmas. Thank god they are Happy Holidays and the next holiday hasn't hit yet. However, the picture is cute :) She's still pissed.

Facing the Christmas Eve Dangers...

Let me amend my previous position on holiday shopping - forget the Mall, forget Costco - One can put one's life in jeopardy by going to the supermarket/grocery store on Christmas Eve. Talk about traffic jams, people actin' stupid and drama, drama, drama. Ugh!

Dad decided that turkey is scheduled for dinner tomorrow, so this gal had to visit her new favorite haunt for groceries - Publix - to pick up various ingredients for my holiday menu. My Bampa would do a kick-ass menu every holiday, starting off with shrimp cocktail and, this year, I'm taking over tradition. So far I have on the agenda tomorrow - Roast turkey, creamed pearl onions, sour cream mashed potatoes, cornbread & apple stuffing, apple, orange & cranberry chutney (from Williams-Sonoma - they were out of cranberries at the store today), Parmesan popovers, shrimp cocktail and, to finish - Bec's Pumpkin Cheesecake (delish!). Christmas morning I'll be making cranberry/orange muffins, brown sugar bacon and herbed-baked eggs. Since dinner will be later in the evening, we've got most of the day to relax. Tonight we're putting up the tree so mustard crusted salmon & roasted asparagus are on the menu. Someone put Martha Stewart on alert please.

The cat is excited - she's been very cranky lately with the move approaching, the fact her fur is very very long and she's not comfy. Shaddy is one of the cleanest cats I've ever seen, but she hates her fur long and she's beyond fluffy. Combine that with her version of a cold and watch out for those claws (which I'm already sporting a few battle scars). However, she found her box o' gifts that came in from Petco.com (thanks Ebates) and keeps sniffing at them. Since most contain catnip, she'll be ripping at the wrapping paper. It's hilar every year and Roomie is getting her a balloon which will keep Shaddy entertained for hours. Dad got her a chirping bird ornament which I think was more for his amusement than hers.

Also - while my father is out shopping and braving the mall crowds (since I got all of my shopping done 2 weeks ago and didn't have to go), I decided that catching up on my Food Network shows was in order. Well, since Gingerbread Challenge is on for the 40th time, I switched to Fine Living which I found a familiar face - Michael Chiarello and "Napa Holiday". Well, thanks to him I learned some random knowledge - add Dijon mustard to your cranberry dressing, whiskey is really distilled beer and brandy is distilled wine (explains why the Irish love our whiskey) and my favorite quote: "You know what we call Espresso with a little Brandy - Cafe' Correcto..."

Now, where is the brandy I wonder...

Have a wonderful Christmas eve, everyone!!

Beware of the Mall...

My father decided that a visit to the Millenia Mall was in order today - and that's like taking one's life into their own hands. People were scurrying left and right, sauntering through the mall was NOT an option and people had little to no common courtesy...

So - after leaving there after a quick trek, we decided that it would be MUCH calmer at Costco. I'm able to breathe again.

Happy Early Christmas Eve!

Obsessed With: Cattiva Diva

In the flurry of the holiday shopping, while browsing Makeup.com, I came across a di-vine hand cream find - Cattiva Diva by this beauty line - Principessa. I had read about it in a couple places and, being a beauty junkie, I don't always believe the hype - but with this one, y'all best believe. Principessa was created for the "urban princess" and, this company knows its stuff.

I got my mini-size in today along with some of their other products such as the Dolche Dreams lotion and the Fiore shower gel and I'm. In. Love. If I had known that this product would have been that fabu, I would have purchased a few more for gifts for the holidays... Plus - knowing that Cattiva Diva means Naughty Diva, c'mon now - like that's NOT named for me ;)

SO - if you are curious to try something that will not only drive you but also your honey wild, check it out - they have some great products over there and the smell itself has me running to the website to replace my signature fragrance with something a bit more "Principessa".

Apparently, some people think I can be a bit naughty - to which I told Roomie and Gina tonight - I'm evil. And Roomie said, I'm not evil, I'm feisty...

Now Feisty - that's a title I can relish.

A Delightful Combination...

No need to adjust your monitor - you saw that right... Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix & Captain Morgan - the two things behind my highly coveted Captain Morgan Chocolate Chip Cookies...

I had to whip up a batch last night for the guys at the radio station as we brought in toys for the XL 106.7 Baby DJ fund. I gotta hand it to my firm - they really stepped up :) Putting me in front of a radio mic can always be "amusing". Hey - that's what happens when this gal doesn't get her coffee first thing *LOL*.. all in all - good day! It was great to see Doc, Johnny, Alex, Brian, Grace, Farmer Bill and crew and they really got that warehouse in check!

I also whipped up a thank you batch for my firm, and not many are left. The cookies were a hit for A. when he was overseas, as we couldn't send liquor to our soldiers in Iraq/Kuwait and the recipe always seems to go over well. Everything is always a bit better with a little Morgan, dontcha think?

Iron Chef - Catfight anyone?

Photo from FoodNetworkAddict.com.

Have any of you ever watched Iron Chef America? Well, it was on repeat tonight and the Superstar Battle - Iron Chef, Battle Cranberry pitting Rachael Ray vs. Giada deLaurentiis and, to accompany them, Mario Batali with RR and Bobby Flay with GdL.

I've seen it a few times, but the look at the end with Giada kills me - talk about blatant eyeroll. For a fabu account of the whole thing, check out this blog post here. Gotta love the photo from FoodNetworkAddict.com. While I was hoping that Giada would win, eehh.. rematch, anyone?

May I Recommend...

After a long evening of braving the crowds to shop for toys for the XL 106.7 Baby DJ Toy Drive at Target, I had thought ahead to marinate some chicken in Barefoot Contessa's Indonesian Ginger Marinade. She wasn't lyin' when she said it was a hit. Let me tell you - that sauce will be a staple in my pantry. Brown the chicken in the braiser, pop it with a bit of sauce in the oven for 20 minutes and serve with couscous. Yum!

Is It Me Or...

Does Sandra Lee seem to enjoy her "cocktails" a bit? I watched the Semi-Homemade holiday special today and noticed that she's quite the fan of the Godiva White Chocolate liqueur... into the hot chocolate and into the eggnog it went, and rather liberally.

Also - I got an idea from Robin Miller's show and think I'll be making some Hot Chocolate surprise gifts with a bit of holiday cheer for some friends. Who can resist a little chocolate, peppermint schnapps and a candy cane, all elegantly packaged in a C&B mug?

Donald Trump - Watch Out...

This gal has decided to re-evaluate her Sharebuilder account and, in true JAnG fashion, I decided that my stock choices should reflect my personality - I'd only invest in those stores/companies I tend to believe in and/or frequent. Did you know that Williams Sonoma, Nordstrom and Pier1 is on the NYSE? Me either. Well - forget my S&P choices that were way too rich for my blood (and only for my 401(k) plan). I decided that monthly, I'm going to obtain my measly $51 investment in Starbucks and Pier1. After the move, I might change it up a bit, or maybe not. But with Pier1 trading at only a bit over $6.00, hell, what am I gonna lose. Most of my money's in the 'Bucks anyways *LOL* Pier1 - watch out for your new shareholder.

Now if only I could get a "investor's discount".

Ahhhh... the Weekend is Here...

And this is the first one where I refuse to super-schedule ANYTHING! Instead, I'm sitting here catching up on the Nigella Holiday special, The Girls Next Door (rather funny to watch sometimes) and The Devil Wears Prada soon to be playing on the DVD player. Tomorrow, I'll be doing some holiday shopping for people out of town and work (not a whole heck of a lot) and getting some supplies for the holiday festivities upcoming. Plus - I'm dyin' to check out Pier1 and their sale. If you spend $50.00, you get loyalty bucks to use in January. C'mon now - like that's hard to do in Pier1. They have some gorgeous teal items that will go with the lamp and the bowl for the new living room and, once I'm in the new place, I know I'm going to need a few odds and ends.

Also, with the holiday next week, I figured I'd take some time and start to attack that monstrosity of a closet I have to prep for the move. Roomie keeps joking that I'm entirely too calm with the move fast approaching, but seriously - why stress out. I'll pack up my stuff and get it ready, the movers will come in and woosh - it's in the new place and I'm off on a business trip and when I get back, let the unpacking and settling in commence. I'm moreso excited rather than nervous. After that, I'll be replenishing the emergency fund, attacking the credit card monster and just getting the finances in order.

My father is flying in next week for the holidays and one of the excursions I have planned is for him to go take a look at the apartment I have my eye on. I'd comment more, but trust me - when all is signed on the dotted line, y'all will be quite pleased. The tree is also going up this weekend. With the onslaught of blue/teal ornaments at Target and the new "shoe ornaments" that are at every turn, I'm having a blast. My tree will have more ornaments than tree space at this rate so I'm going to have to slow it down a bit.

In other news, work has been good. We're starting to get into the holiday spirit and, after much decorating of the cubicles, a bit of a Secret Santa party and a looming gingerbread contest upcoming, much fun should commence. I've also got a couple of vacation days I have to use before the end of the year so that will provide some much needed packing/sorting/cleaning time. Come January 2 - it's on and poppin'...

Holiday Shopping In Full Effect...

Remind me to hug EBates ... today they had a "Cyber-Thursday" where, essentially, all of their cash back percentages were way above the other two. While it was only for 8 hours, this gal crammed in a ton of holiday shopping. My wallet is screaming in horror, but I crossed a bunch of peeps off my list. Now, I only have a few stragglers left, and I'm going to marinate and think on theirs.

One thing about online shopping - they will ship, wrap and send it all for you. Thank you to whoever invented online shopping. If only I could actually see the look on my friends' faces *LOL* now THAT would be classic.

S&TC Wisdom for the Week

Charlotte: I am so confused. Is he gay or is he straight?

Carrie: Well, it's not that simple anymore. The real question is, is he a straight gay man or is he a gay straight man?

Carrie (voiceover): The gay straight man was a new strain of heterosexual male spawned in Manhattan as the result of overexposure to fashion, exotic cuisine, musical theatre and antique furniture

MySpace Strikes Again...

Sometimes, I have to wonder - why does the past always surface when it's not wanted. Just on a whim, A. popped into my head with a "hmmm.. wonder how he's doing". The marvel/hell that is MySpace revealed that A. just joined and, on my birthday no less. Being that A. is beyond computer "challenged", I'm sure MySpace is a whole new world to him. In a weird way, I feel a sense of relief that he is still up north and is not down here in Florida, however, the desire to shoot him a quick email just to see how he is doing was hard to resist.

Don't get me wrong - I don't ever want to start things up in that way ever again, but I miss the friendship. I've always been one to stay friends with an ex, and try to keep the friendship after the romance had ended (with the exception of a select few like Mark and Jackie who both deserved a good kick in the head). With A. it was different - it's like the ghost of the past has surfaced and I'm was sitting here going "To speak or not to speak". I've always joked that A. was like my version of Big - not good for me but so tempting. I've discovered that over the years, I'm personally more the Aidan type of gal. I'm beyond the bad boy mystique that I used to be attracted to (or the a-hole factor, to put it simply). Plus - A. has issues that will never change and I'm sure going to Iraq only intensified them more than ever. After the breakup Mark, it was brief and more of a rebound, but we were able to go back to our friendship until H. complicated things (and then A. went and got married but is now divorced). In the positive - I'm older, wiser and less likely to hit temptation (or visit Rhode Island). I'm sure that Meowmix will hit me with a "NO NO NO NO NO" but I have to wonder - what would have happened if only she had roundkicked him that night at the hockey game.... *sigh*

R.I.P. Max

It's with a sad heart that I have to mention that George Clooney's beloved pig, Max has since passed. Janet Charleton ran the story and this fabu picture.

Who says Clooney is scared of commitment - 19 years is a long time and he said it was his "longest relationship". Anyhow - I'm sure Max will be missed.

Stylin' the Christmas Tree...

As the holiday season is here, how to decorate the tree is one of those things that has to be decided. MSN ran a great slideshow today about holiday trees. You can check it out here. The first tree, by far, is my favorite look.

My tree this year is still going to be artificial, but I'm trying to add more of a theme/color scheme to it rather than just a hodgepodge of rainbow colors. I'm obsessed with the color teal lately (thanks to a candle I fell in love with in Vegas which has started an obsession of all things teal/chocolate). I
cannot wait until my first house - I'm pretty sure that I will turn into Martha Stewart sans prison suit but a touch of attitude as I will be decorating to the nines. The apartment, however, I'll do a bit, but this is the last year for the tree from 5 years ago.

Also - I'm getting in the habit of buying new ornaments yearly to add to the tree so that will start a tradition. My great grandmother & grandmother would get me an ornament yearly and, while I don't have any from my childhood down here as some are in storage, I have some great ones that I've discovered over the years. While they don't necessarily go with the designer theme, they are representative of my interests and passions and I think they give a personalized touch. Don't worry - I won't be hanging anything kitchen related from the tree *LOL* but I might be picking up a Starbucks ornament (or two).

Some great places for ornaments this year - Pier1, Crate & Barrel, Bloomingdales and Target. Target has this black/white collection and crystal ornaments that are to-die-for (and at reasonable prices as well). Pier1 has a bunch of blue/teal-ish ornaments and lots pink/red ornaments. Crate & Barrel's ornaments are very chic, especially their gold/silver ornaments. One of the decisions I'm trying to make is do I or don't I start my collection of Waterford ornaments. They are a tad pricy so maybe not this year. Or I'll find them after the holidays or at the outlets.

I'm planning on putting up the tree this weekend, complete with homemade (lowfat) eggnog and perhaps biscotti so I'll be sure to take pics (before Shadow tries to tackle the tree). How did you decorate your home for the holidays this year?

Like a Gerbil In It's Cage...

I don’t know what is going on, but lately I’ve been experiencing the “blah” factor - you know - when you really aren’t motivated and are content to plod through until you get your 7th wind. I would love to think this is not burnout (or an aftereffect of burnout) but there is a strong possibility that life is really trying to kick my butt into gear.

There is so much ahead of me with holiday parties, my father coming to town, Shaddy’s annual Santa visit, doctor appointments (whoo hoo - stress test - can you HEAR the sarcasm), holiday shopping, putting up the tree, finding an apartment, trying to get a second job (because I’m *bored* but really am intrigued by the employee discount), packing up my apartment, sifting through the stuff, putting the unwanted items on Ebay, along with working my normal 9-6 with a “yea” attitude. It’s enough to make this blond go a bit cuckoo.

So - I’m thinking there has to be a day when I can just play hooky of sorts, barricade myself away from the world and just not deal. However - I don’t think there is such a thing and, if there was, only government employees would be able to enjoy such a day. I’m not that lucky.

A few bright spots is the fact that I have my *first* apartment go-see this week. I’d comment more but I don’t want to jinx it. Will give you a heads up after I meet with them. My Nigella pot came in 4 days early - can’t wait to put that to use. Also - I’ve got more of a handle on my bills - the holiday season is the worst. I’m taking it easy with the gift shopping. Only a few friends & family this year. I spent a bit more in Western Mass than I had planned, so ouch is a big term. Oh well. I want to get my spending and budgets back on track - or at least kick off 2007 with Suze Orman’s principles in use. That might be a good thing - you think?

Vacation Is All I Ever Wanted…

Remember that old Go-Go’s tune - Vacation. In today’s day and age, how hard is it for the average american to take a little R&R time and just recharge one’s batteries without the responsibility of checking into the office via the cell or blackberry or logging in from a laptop? I know - inconceivable, right. In today’s day and age, the curse of the workaholic abounds. PayPerPost wanted us to check out this vacation property. Coming up, Meowmix and I will have to book our annual birthday celebration (since the one in November got scrapped for a business conflict thanks to yours truly). Where the final destination will be - who knows.

So - when PayPerPost asked me to check out this place,
Cave Creek, I was impressed. Not that Scottsdale would have normally crossed my path, but thanks to friends of mine in Arizona, I’m hearing some good buzz on this little town. The trend seems to be some investment property and then rent it out like a resort/hotel when not using.

So, it’s my educated guess that the key goal is rest and relaxation. Now, if they have no ‘net access, I might just be tempted to do just that.

Obsessed With Shopping: Steve Madden...

In this week's OBSESSED WITH SHOPPING Feature - let's check out a couple of the new Spectator styles offered by Steve Madden, shall we?

I can't WAIT for either of these to go on sale. Wedges + MaryJanes - sooo much trouble. And a Platform version... I'm going to need an extra bedroom for a closet at this rate.

Onward and Upward...

One of the biggest things I had trouble doing when I started getting my credit back on track was finding a good credit card that I could maintain properly and would report positively to the credit bureaus. Sure, I'd get those Spam Emails with "Get a Credit Card Now" but can one really trust those emails? That's what I thought.

I've worked hard and found myself to be on a pretty good track onward and upward. But, for those that were in the same situation as I was a couple years ago, PayPerPost put me onto a search engine that can find exactly the right credit card for you - CreditCardSearchEngine.com

For those that want cash back, low interest, miles, or even with bad credit - you can find it here. So, if you are on the hunt, let this be your one stop shop to find your upwardly mobile credit path. Just remember these simple rules:

  • Never pay just the minimum.
  • Try to pay it off monthly.
  • Treat it like a debit card, not a credit card.
  • Exercise caution when using, and
  • ALWAYS PAY EARLY!

Good luck!!

Overheard at the VH-1 Big in '06 Awards...

Now this is hilarious... commentary about the Pussycat Dolls who are up for Big Music Artist:
  • From Andrew Dice Clay "Aren't they like N'Sync with the operation?"
  • From another commentator - "Basically - a Victoria's Secret ad with dance and song"...
Winner was the N'Sync former boybander without the operation - Justin Timberlake. Gotta love the politicalness of these fun award shows. And can someone puleaze smack that Hayden chick.. ugh! Way too Hilary Duff on too much espresso... Flava Flav still scares me...Fergie kicked #*@*# with London Bridge/FergieLicious. The chalkboard was hilar. That gal just doesn't give a rat's ass about what people think and again wench got me wanting the damn shoes.

C'mon VH-1 - Bring on Perezzle...

A Cure for "Shiny Penny Syndrome"...

Time Management has never been one of my strong points. I’m going to confess – I’m a gal who has a case of the shiny penny syndrome at times. You know the “ohhh – look – pretty” as I get distracted. Like right now – I’m “multi-tasking”, reviewing this site and with the other eye checking out the VH1 Big In ’06 awards (gotta support Perez’s appearance, right!?!? Plus – Fergie is performing. Holy #*@* - is that) See what I mean?

Anywayz – PayPerPost put this opportunity in front of me to review a time management site. Do they know something about me?? This site has a bunch of links, free newsletters, a free mini-course, basically pretty much anything you might need to wrestle that demon into submission.

Who knows, maybe I’ll learn a thing or three. I still vow to get distracted by shoes, though.

This Week's S&TC Quote...

We're back on track now. So - without further adieu - this week's S&TC wisdom...

Miranda: Do you have a rolling pin?
Carrie: On me?
Miranda: In your kitchen.
Carrie: Are you kidding me? I use my oven for storage.

Showin' a Little PPP Love...

PayPerPost is looking for a little PPP Love… and I am more than happy to oblige. They wanted to know what I love most about PayPerPost. Well, that is simple – ease of use. It’s super easy to navigate their site, they don’t censor your opinions (and y’all know how much I’m anti-free speech) and they are fabulous when it comes to customer service. They really care about their bloggers and I cannot rave enough about the service and their people. Even when the links aren’t always “correct”, they are quick to get right on any technical glitch. Let’s not even talk about the choice of opportunities that they present. Where else can I indulge in research on online shopping, couponing, real estate, home goods, need I go on?
So, if you are interested in checking out PayPerPost – just follow the little link. Who knows what you may find at the end of your journey.

One of my Favorite Spots...

I wanted to share this spot with y'all. Ever since I was a little girl, I would love to go to the Log Cabin in Holyoke (near Easthampton). I would go there with my parents, great grandmother , my Aunt Maddie and also my grandparents. It was a frequent haunt and a very special place.

As I got older, the Log Cabin closed for a bit, and we would go next door to the Harvest Valley Inn. However, when I really needed to think, I would still go to this lookout point and glance over at the Pioneer Valley. Very few friends knew about my "spot", but one of the ones who I would have talks with here was Nick.

Last week, when I was in Western Mass - not sure of when my next trip back would be, I wanted to take a pic. I wish y'all could see how gorgeous it is at night - or with the snow - or even in the fall with the leaves a rainbow of colors - absolutely breathtaking. And, when I need to clear my head, I can just look at the pic and remember all the good times I had here.

Isn't This Serene...

Taken outside the LDS store* yesterday in Windermere. Guess all of the ducks have really gone south for the winter.

*Roomie wanted to get her copy of Ensign so I went with. Don't worry - no missionaries were verbally harmed upon my entry to the store.

Today was a *Good* Day...

Today was a day that I thoroughly enjoyed just taking off. While I was going to take the cooking class at Williams-Sonoma today, I thought tomorrow might be best and I can actually chill out. Bec had advised me to get this Homedics Sound Spa so that I can actually *relax* before I sleep. For the past 2 days, I've been trying it out and it drives Shaddy NUTS with the sound of seagulls against the crashing waves. With that, I've learned to turn the TV off at night and it's been working - no chest pains.

Roomie and I signed our "Move Out Notice" today, officially marking the countdown - 61 days from now, I will be moved into a new apt. and I made some appointments for next week. Apartment hunting is hard work - not only to I have to know what side of the *tracks* (per se) the various complexes are (i.e. - in Altamonte, one side of 436 is good, the other side is drug infested; in Orlando - Semoran and Goldrod - hell no and Kirkman is a high crime area as of late), but I also have to make a checklist and try to keep to the rent I'm looking for. My first choice has a waiting list that starts in MAY. Hello - I'm moving in February

There is WAY too much crime in the land of the Rat. I'm really not sure what the hell is going on down here, but BR & Meowmix have their hands full and I need to find out the crime reports for the area. God knows my complex is getting worse by the day and my stupid complex manager insists that there is NEVER any crime here at our apartment complex - DOH. Tell that to the crazy neighbor downstairs who threatened an 8 year old child with a loaded gun and is off his meds.

Sooo, I'm excited about the future. Changes are much needed and, like purging my life of the negative, so goes purging of the space. I'm starting to weed through everything now and decided what I love, what I detest and what goes on Ebay/charity/trash.

As for the family drama, I got a letter from my mother last night, but that was dealt with swiftly. A typed, single space letter, no return address and using my full name - talk about setting off alarms. Halleujah for shredders *LOL*. Seriously - the more emails, letters, etc. that she sends, the more it pushes me away. I'd rather deal with everything on my time and not when it's convenient for her to "explain". There is no explanation needed. The court file will say it all. I've come to the realization that while I once needed and wanted her approval, now I could really care less. She's more concerned with what people think of her and honestly, this is my blog/journal and I refuse to censor anything. As Meowmix, Bec, and Roomie agree - if this is cathargic, then so be it.

What sucks is that when I least expect it, like a dam opening, some memories will hit me from childhood prompting me to make a call and asking my father "did THIS have anything to do with..." It is beyond annoying, so my gal M. at work is giving me a name of a great therapist who I think I need to have a talk with. When I was in high school, I went to see a therapist about dealing with my parents' impending divorce (now i know WHY they stayed together so damn long but still) and I remember during one of the big blow-ups between my mother and I, she said some stuff I thought I had only told my therapist - prompting me to question the integrity of any doctor. However, as pointed out by M., I really can trust doctors and not wonder about client/patient confidentiality. It's going to take time to deal with the revelations and, maybe one day I can have a conversation with my mother, but I don't see it happening in the near future. Like she said, I'm my father's daughter and you know what, I'm pretty proud of that fact.

Couponing at L/C

Well, this week, after dealing with the drama of prior, I decided that I needed to use my coupon at Le Creuset and score myself this lovely braiser. Then, since it was 30% off the outlet price, I also decided that the trivet was necessary too. After the doctor's yesterday, I stopped by Wal-Mart to check out the new Colin Cowie line (Lovely!!) and picked up a couple wine glasses, some knives (to work with until the move) and a few other odds and ends. After that, I needed to visit Tar-Jay, again picking up a "few things" finishing up at my new haunt of late - Publix whereby I vowed to cook on the daily (I've been lapsin', my friends) - prompting Roomie to ask if I fell on my head or something. Nope. My cards are wishing for a deep freeze though.

Well - in other news, Mr. Doc decided that some "nuclear 2-day testing" was in order and scheduled that for next week. He did, however, put me on an asprin regimine, told me to look about getting some Zantac (just in case) and yoga. BR added to the deal with advising me to cut out the caffeine. Since my mom drank coffee during her pregnancy - me without caffeine is a hard pill to swallow. So, we're gonna take that one day at a time.

Yoga however - now that was a fun excursion - who knew Wal-Mart & Target had so many pretty yoga things to look at... OM!!!!!

Discussion Time...

One of the things I haven't had time to do is any PayPerPost ops. While I love this site, I have to confess, I haven't been able to visit daily like I used to - sometimes life has a way of stopping one in its tracks. However, one easy way for me to catch up on everything is to stop by the PayPerPost forums. It's free, easy to register and the people there are amazing. They have posts about various blog posts, discussions about everything in normal day life, and great advice re: PPP. The support here is really heartwarming at times. Plus - I'm always on the look for good blogs to peruse so I'm bound to come across some good ones through the PayPerPost Forums.

Check it out - drop by and say hi! You'll be glad you did.
