What A Weekend...

I don't even know WHERE to begin - but I know I'll be yippin' about my experience at South Beach Wine & Food Festival over at Cooking in Stilettos this week. Just still recovering from the 8 hours on the road and all the chaos while I was down there. Let's just say that I was wrong about a couple things, it was definitely worth the time and expense and I thoroughly would recommend that more peeps go next year.

However, today it's Ash Wednesday and I haven't decided what I'm giving up for Lent. My co-workers have suggested that giving up coffee is NOT an option - for their safety moreso than for saving my sanity. Lent came up so quickly this year that I wasn't prepared. I can't give up swearing either because, quite frankly, after 12 years of Catholic school, cussin' like a sailor is embedded in my persona. I could try but that's setting one up for instant failure. Same with not buying shoes. I'm hoping for a little divine inspiration.

However, this is what greeted me when I came home.

How can one not look at that friendly face and smile...

Sometimes You Just Have To Smile...

Yup, I'm still in a foul mood - beyond foul as part of my weekend will not be resting in Miami - just a quick trip to South Beach Sunday a.m. to catch the Food Network Demos of Sunny Anderson, Michael Symon and, perhaps, Tyler Florence at SOBE and get a glance at the tents and exhibitors. Then it's 4 hours back on the road to come back here because, well, life just has this way of getting in the way of fun, ya know.

However, one thing made me grin today - namely checking out this feature that ran this week on my boy Ren in the Philly Inquirer.
Ren was one of the guys who kept us in line on the set. He's an amazing choreographer, savvy businessman and a fabulous person. I know I've talked about him here from time to time because, when I'm home in Philly, fate just has a way of crossing our paths - once when we were just at dinner with CK and Jas and another time as I was just heading to the Italian Market and he just happened to walk in front of my car. So to see this when I'm internally cursing out every. single. person just made me sit back, smile and remember that regardless of the drama, chaos and b.s. I face on the regular, I'm blessed.

If you can, check out the article.

Finally, for another dose of grin: one of my fave photos from the day where Reese, the Boyz and Ren all converged on the same spot with no planning - serendipitous indeed.

L. to R.: CK, Gigi, Ren, OurBuddy and Jas

It's days like this I have to remember how much I miss my crew...

Obsessed With: Christian Louboutin's YOPI Pump

I'm a lover of ALL things Teal/Turquoise etc. and Christian Louboutin's YOPI Pump is no exception.

The color. The lines. That heel. Oh my. Yup, this is one (of many) that is on my "wish list". One day, my friends. One day.

*Growl* *Sputter* *Growl* *Glare*

Yeah, I'm a bit angry. And, sadly, I can't divulge much. I'm probably being bitchy but I just read something that had steam coming out of my ears. Sometimes, I just have to shake my head, go "What the eff!" and roll my eyes.

I knew there's a reason why I shouldn't have checked my email... or played Mafia Wars - AGAIN. *

* Reese - if you find a MafiaWars rehab, I'm so there. If I don't get my hitman status or level up soon, I'm going to flip a wench.

Recap - In Bullet Form...

My mind is still unable to form massive paragraphs to let you know what's been going on here in the land of the Rat so I'll give you the update in bullet points...
  • The Pug & The Cat: Still warring - but this is totally on the cat's doing. She's screaming bloody murder every time he wants to play or give her a smooch. Eeehhhh - she's going to hate not having cookiez if she keeps this up.
  • The Pug: OMG - I have adopted a garbage pail. He. Eats. EVERYTHING! I mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. I feel like I have a 2 year old where I'm constantly chasing him going "Wiggs - what the eff did you eat. Spit it out!" And we won't go into the sushi argument. Apparently, because I had sushi tonight, in his mind I was obligated to share. I didn't. He's pissed. Tough shit. I should just give him some Wasabi and see how that frosts his cookie. He'll have a jambalaya flashback to last week where he begged and whined and barked and pleaded only to get a small morsel. By his standards it was lip smackin' good - until the heat kicked in and that little pug ran for his water dish. Don't think he'll bug me for jambalaya again...
  • The Pug: Also has issues where he spins on his tail again -anal gland issues. I know. I know TMI. But you know things are bad when you email the vet for an appointment and know that you will get charged for "Hazardous waste disposal". It's going to be a recurrent 6 week expense. Lucky. Ducky. Me. Shoe fund is depleting before my eyes.
  • Cooking took a backseat to life and the revamp of the culinary blog. I seemed to have gotten my culinary mojo motor running and we'll see what happens next weekend as I head down to South Beach for a little "research" and fun as I attend Food Network's South Beach Food & Wine Festival. Can't wait to see the culinary demonstrations - Sunny Anderson, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence, Michael Symon, Anne Burrell and so many more. Will take pictures - promise.
  • My neighbors - downstairs. If I have to deal with the residuals of ONE MORE FOOD FIGHT, I swear I'm going to flip a kid. The parking is non-existent as there are 3-4 roommates and they all have friends coming in and out all. the. damn. time. They apparently go to the "Golf School". I should have known when I saw one of the idiots waving a golf club at an overhead light like it was a game. The complex says that "well, boys will be boys". That's fine but the one problem with the food fights and their constant mess is the fact that we have a resurgence of palmettos. GEE THANKS! Hmm... wonder I catch a couple of the slimy rat bastid bugs, I could just leave them for the idiots.
  • The shoe shopping has been pretty quiet - but don't worry. I have a few good "OBSESSED WITH" selections this week that will show y'all that I haven't lost my shoe game JUST yet.

And, how are y'all doing?

Where I've Been...

I've been off and about fighting tooth and nail with a little program called Wordpress. Wanna see a rough cut of my culinary home on the web...

Check out the new and improved Cooking in Stilettos (www.cookinginstilettos.org) . It's so bright and shiny. Obviously I'll be tweeking it and much thanks to all of you who have given your input. I couldn't have done it without y'all... The dog and cat are ready to break the laptop as they've had many a night with me working til crazy late going "WTH!" It's been an education.

Now, with that, this gal is off to go watch James Marsters and then pass out.

Riddle Me This...

Why the heck were The Jonas Brothers performing with Stevie Wonder. Seriously - how the hell does THAT happen. I thought J-Hud kicked Ass. I'm NOT a fan of Coldplay and BoyzIIMen - where the hell were they - wait, dwarfed by Justin, as always. Don't even GET me started on Kanye's mullet. Estelle's album is great - so glad to see she had the chance to perform live.

Yeah, like last year, I wasn't too happy with this year's Grammy offerings. This is one of the times where I was glad that when I was faced with the choice of Grammy Tix v. SOBE Tix and Spring Training, I'm glad I chose the latter. I would have been PISSED if I spent $500 + a seat to see this show live. (Not to mention hotel, airfare, dress, etc. etc. etc.)

We'll see what the 52nd Grammys brings. However, I will say this - some artists should NOT sing live - or lay off the sauce prior to singing. That stuff seriously messes up one's vocal cords.

Snarky, yeah, I'm just a tad.

This About Sums It Up...

I have come to grips with the fact that I have Dr. Wiggles/Jekyll and Mr. Pug/Hyde living in my house... Any given day he can be one of the above three. Anyone know a good puggy psychologist?

Forgive Me Readers For I Have Sinned...

It has been a few days since I have updated the blog.

Work has a gal with her nose to the grindstone. Combine that with the fact I'm beyond worn out when I get home only to have to keep the North & South warring factions apart, keep the dog out of the litterbox - AGAIN and somehow try to find something that makes me actually want to write - yeah, so not happening. My creativity has been stifled. And, for that, I'm banning myself to my closet to reorg. the shoe collection this weekend so that I won't find the cat hiding behind the shoeboxes.

I took a few days to clear the cobwebs in the brain and, yeah, no luck. Anyhow, I'll be back posting with a vengeance soon because while I have blog fodder stored somewhere in the recesses of the brain (Kar and SL will remind me of the topics I thought of earlier in the week on one of the brief 'Bucks runs), my brain can't seem to process a coherent post this evening outside of this rambling mess. And try to get me to actually not get "Shiny Penny Syndrome" when trying to multi-task with reading and doing a multiple amount of other things at the same time is asking for a miracle to happen. I'm hoping to get caught up on my Google reader this weekend...

However, for your listening pleasure, I have to share a little something. One of the Philly crew uploaded a hell of a Flashback Old Skool Mix and has been sweet enough to let me post the link. So, I highly recommend bookmarking his site and checking out his mixes when he posts them. Thanks DJ Ed-D! You can check out the link HERE. I've been listening to it at work for two days - it seriously rocks!

I mean, c'mon, great music - a gal can't help but think "Hello Weekend!"

Tell Me A Story...

There's a new job title for Lys on the horizon, that being the job of referee. While some of y'all might be sick of the Wiggs/Shadow saga, this one story begs to be told.

We've had our ups and downs - he thinks he is the pack leader which is contrary to my belief that I am the pack leader. He's always crying when I return, even if I am gone only an hour - like he thinks I am not coming back. He has a penchant for Shadow's litterbox (for the love of god, Wiggs - HIDE THE EVIDENCE!) and always hears "BAD DOG!" as I chase him out of the laundry room away from Shadow's abode.

I let them duke it out - per everyone's advice on Thursday. Well, that resulted in Shadow knocking Wiggs full across the face as she was on the back of the couch and he was on his hind legs. That right hook knocked him backwards into the coffee table as he looked up at me with blood coating his nose. OHMYGOD!!! I'm screaming bloody murder at the evil minx, trying to consol him as he's walking sideways and thinking "Wiggs has a concussion or something!" and furiously dialing my father every 15 minutes until he picked up to see if I should take Wiggs to the Doggy ER. Well, my father chided me that Wiggs has always walked sideways and since he was no longer bleeding, Doggy ER was not necessary. I did, however, wake Wiggs up every hour on the hour to check his face to make sure he was okay. Shadow was banned from cookiez for the day.

Then, of course, to make matters worse, it rained on Friday and Il Divo as I called him refused to go outside in the rain. It didn't matter that we had an umbrella, albeit a broken one but it still worked. He refused to walk in wet grass, freaked out about raindrops hitting him and just was an absolute horror. Well, that behavior wasn't going to fly.

This weekend was a few cat chasing incidents, a successful grooming with Aussie PetMobile (love Jennifer - AWESOME JOB!) and Shadow is feeling more like herself - but with shorter claws. Wiggs doesn't stink, stole a toy from Jennifer (that sly pug) and wore his bandanna proudly - the little cowpug. I figured we might be onto something...

Then, tonight, after referreing another fight as Shadow goes crashing into the dining room table, I had to take a break and think. Earlier this evening, while I took Wiggs out for his late night walk and to drop off the rent check, the sprinklers were going. I didn't pay it any attention. Then, all of a sudden, I saw Wiggs run clear across to the other side of me, away from the water towards an oncoming car. I screamed, visions of him getting hit at the forefront of my mind, swung the leash in the other direction and pulled him out of the way - towards the sprinklers. He's freaking out, I'm a hot mess and wondering what the hell is wrong with this dog - and then it hit me - he's afraid of the rain. He doesn't know sprinklers from the rain nor would he.

Wiggs hasn't told me his story yet, but other people at the rescue meet up have. See, he's been abandoned not once but twice. Technically, you could call it three times. When he was a pup, some parents bought him for a college girl to take to school during her freshman year at college. Well, who knows what he saw up there but she decided that she couldn't be bothered and left him with her parents. Her parents refused to let him in the house since they just redid the house. Their idea of taking care of him - leaving him tied up outside, rain and everything. He was finally surrendered to the Central Florida Pug Rescue and placed with Ms. Mary. She told me stories about how he had some growths on his skin, like a skin flap, due to this neglect. Then, he was placed with a couple and the couple wound up falling on hard times - and had to surrender him. I don't know much about his time with that family, just that another woman remarked that Wiggs is so much happier now than when he was brought back to the Rescue.

So tonight, I had to think that sometimes while I think he's being stubborn, he's really being protective of his own interests. He's afraid of the rain. He loves people and tries to make everyone happy so they will play with him. He licks anything and everything. He begs - and while I don't always allow him, sometimes I can't help but slip him a treat. He's pretty predictable with his walks and needs and the only thing this little guy wants is love.

And how can one not fall for him - he's pretty damn special.
