Officer, I've Been Robbed!

Stories from Dorm Central:

Every Thursday, I have organic fruits and veggie delivered from Orlando Organics. I adore this service and I'm really pleased. I find myself looking forward to seeing what I get and making it like a challenge to use items I wouldn't normally pick up. It's up to me to leave a cooler outside my door on Thursday mornings for them to leave the goodies in. I've been really good about this for a while now.

On Thursday mornings, I get up, take the pug out for his walk and then clean out the cooler as I fill it with ice packs and leave for work. Simple - no problem with that routine.

This week, I get home and notice that in place of the cooler is an insulated bag from Orlando Organics but no cooler. What. The. HELL!?!?!

Now I left that cooler out about 8:30/8:45. They come around 11 - so that tells me that in that span of TWO hours, someone thieved the cooler. You could tell it wasn't out for trash as the ice packs were laid out nicely and there was paper towels lining it over the ice packs. Any IDIOT could tell that - trash only comes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is THURSDAY.

SO, by my powers of deduction it leaves only one alternative - one of the dorm residents decided that they needed a cooler for beer for the multiple parties that have been going on around these parts - and my money's on the idiots who vandalized the elevator, raise hell on the floor and, of course, haven't learned what life really is about.

And boy did those punks hear my thoughts as I was discussing the issue on the phone. These kids aren't paying their own rent - their parents are as confirmed by the office. These kids go to GOLF SCHOOL for cryin' out loud - GOLF SCHOOL. And I'm guessing that 90% of those idiots won't even go pro - but sure Mom & Dad - send these boys to Florida with a nice car so they can learn how to be a professional golfer like Tiger Woods. And I might have said that should they get out of line, I'm whippin' out my cane and cardigan to call the Altamonte PD as the Courtesy Officer hasn't really been able to do much and the problem is getting worse. However, should the Altamonte PD have public calls about the drama over here, well then - the complex won't like that.

For two nights we've had peace and quiet - they keep trying to say hi to me and pet my dog (I am praying that Wiggs lets his leg fly on one of them) but they have gotten the mean mug and aren't worth my time to acknowledge.

However, should they care to return the cooler - well then, I'll be back to pleasant neighbor status.

I'm Not Trolling... Seriously...

I have a huge Guilty of Idiocy post but, in the interest of time and because I'm later than the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, I figured I'd post quickly before I departed to my new role as the crazy nosy neighbor on the porch, cardigan & all. All I need is a cane and to learn how to scream "Whippersnappers" and I'm set. I've already got the attack cat.

Well, I'm going to my first "Neighborhood Watch" meeting tonight in Altamonte. No, this is not motivated by the fact that I saw the cop from when I first moved to Altamonte. No, this is not motivated by the fact it's at the Police Department. It's actually motivated by the fact that we've got too much crime going on in our area and dammit, I'm mad. Plus, I have to use my big mouth for something, right? Well, besides talking to idiot customer service reps like they are children.

Of course, if I just so happen to run into Mr. Officer, well, that's a bonus right? Yeah, I know. I'm trolling. Just don't tell him, okay? Let's keep it between us.
UPDATE:
NO, he wasn't there - I'm sure he was on patrol, but I can say that the meeting tonight was well worth my time. I am very shy when put into situations like a new class, meeting with strangers, etc. and was all "Do I/Don't I" prior to. Throw me in a club, I'm cool and the furthest from shy (Meowmix says I'm mean, but eehhhh). Throw me into a situation like this, I'm a fraidy cat at least until I get used to the environment.
After getting a stern talkin' to from JoeZ. and my father to just go, I grabbed an ice coffee from Starbucks (less chance of them swiping the coffee at the door. Don't cops normally prefer Dunkin'?) and went into the meeting. I'm happy I did. I finally was able to have a conversation with people who care about the community and actually start to use my brain. My brain has been sort of rotting, I might say, at the 9to5 due to the burn out. I was able to talk intelligently about issues facing our community, issues that I encountered up north and how they might be cropping up again with children/teens/adults that have relocated here, and have an honest exchange with other like-minded people. I also found out that I could volunteer with the PD and I'm going to look into it in more detail. I did have to giggle at a few things that were asked, but the officers took the questions seriously and really alleviated the attendees' concern.
I think my city has a fabulous PD and, for once, I'm finally feeling at home in Florida. These cops are like my crew up north - honest, forthright and just straight up real.

I Had To Do It...

My complex is pretty well soundproof - well, except for the azzhat that plays their videogames at 4 a.m. in the MORNING on SURROUND SOUND! I thought it was the cranky neighbors who moved next door to me - but tonight I got the answer to my question...

It's from the apartment below mine and to the right. Now I love me some house music by the Jungle Brothers and good salsa - but not at the decibel levels that is playin' right now - and has been for the past 2 hours. These are the same guys who go nuts on poker night.

I'd like to sleep - without having to take 3 sleeping pills (which leads to really wonky dreams, btw!) and I had to do what I never have done before - called the Altamonte PD. I just hope it wasn't one of their officers causing the ruckus (we have 3 cops who live in our building, 2 from Altamonte and 1 from Orlando's PD). As I told the dispatcher, I just wasn't comfortable leaving my name in case it was one of their officers and I didn't want them to get in trouble, just turn the sound level down - WAY down. She asked me the apartment number of the offender - I told her to follow their ears - it's just on the second floor.

I've also resigned myself to the fact that due to this call, I'm officially old.

Update: The Officer just stopped by - he told me that the cops that live in my building are on the other side of the wall. He just needed some direction as to where the offending suspects might be. I really do like this town - now just need to muzzle those kids. And NO I didn't flirt (that much)

Update Part Deux: I was ready to call that officer back because at 1:38 a.m., all you heard was a HUGE ARGUMENT from, what I presume, the tenants of the apartment - basically a woman screamin' every 2 min. "Shut the F*** up. I gave you a baby first". I guess it's supposed to be "cool" to be the first babymomma. From what I gathered from the airing their business to the entire city of Altamonte because they were THAT loud, the guilty boytoy who was playin' the music loud and whoopin' it up on the balcony all night pre-cop visit was caught redhanded with the other babymomma during their soiree. And the first babymomma wasn't having that crap at all. He's screaming at her, she's screaming at him (and, neighbor idjiots - I do understand some spanish - especially the swearing. Calling her a whore doesn't help your cause - just caused her to scream even louder!) Drama at the apartment complex to the umpth degree. Thankfully someone else got as annoyed as moi and next thing you know all is silent. One can safely presume that the Altamonte PD came back or one of our cop residents decided enough was enough. This morning - the neighbor idjiots are back to playing video games on the surround sound. I will be talking to the complex office this week cuz that mess has to stop. Again, just to keep up with the whole mystique of being "That Neighbor". At this rate I better get a cardigan, rockin' chair and sit on my balcony 24/7.

Something To Ponder...

Tonight as I was picking up a gift, I dropped by the new Tuesday Morning near the Millenia Mall (home of uber swanky stores i.e. Dior, Gucci, Neimans, interspersed with Macy*s, Bloomies, Williams Sonoma, etc.). So its a pretty upscale shopping area here along with Ikea, DSW, Super Target, etc.

The sign greeting me upon entering Tuesday Morning:"No Weapons Allowed In Store"

Are you flippin' kidding me?? *sigh* Buddy Dyer and the Orlando PD need to get their collective butts whipped into shape as our crime rate obviously is not declining. The store management is obviously hoping that the criminal element will see the sign and go "Hold up. I need to go put my [insert weapon of choice here] back in the car"

Welcome to Orlando Folks!!

Bumping - Not Just for Cars Anymore...

Crime seems to be running rampant, and the robbers seem to be getting smarter by the second. So, with that, Divorce 2 Financial Freedom put up a great blog about the new "thing" in crime - Lock Bumping.

As my apartment key resembles that bump key, you can bet that I will be talking to the office about it. Plus - Altamonte's police alert came in my email today and one of the burglaries this week was in my complex. SOOOO.. ADT & I will have our "talk", the locks will be redone (even if I need to buy it myself) and as for the animal advice, yeah - attack kitty doesn't always do her job.

I'm scared to ask what these criminals will think of next. Imagine if they took all this time they spent thinking of these schemes to actually becoming productive members of society *sigh*. Let's hope the police are aware and, if they aren't, let's make them aware.

Twice in One Week....

Well, OPD - you done did it again. Yup. Yesterday morning on the way to work, yet again a fresh new batch of "traffic control" (or as they tell the radio - SPEED CONTROL") was out in force, this time led by not Mr. Village People Cop, but Roscoe. Guess he's steppin' up in the world. And Roscoe thought he was slick; boy had on a blue windbreaker covering up his uniform acting all covert with his little surveyor tripod and walkie talkie - telling people who and what to pull over. Same scenario as last time with them walkin' through traffic and aggressively flaggin' someone down. Give. Me. A. Break. Roscoe needs to learn how to act a bit more stealthy. Like, I don't know - switch up the exits - wait.. would that be perhaps infringing on the State Troopers' jurisdiction? Ahhh... I see - if you guys are up far enough on I-4 near downtown the Staties won't bat an eyelash. Ahhhh... okay. Well, I vote for y'all to cut the crap.

Again, thanks to Roscoe & friends, this gal was 32 minutes late. Mr. Dyer - accordingly, please remit a check to those people that were late due to your "speed control project". Obviously, by your crew walkin' through traffic there was no "speeding" going on. Moreso - mostly minor traffic violations, seat belt checks, registration checks and "allegations of suspicious activity" which, in Florida speak is "that one don't look right". Such the good ol' boys network down here. Seriously - OPD needs to be fighting crime on our streets. Our murder toll is already way too high. I think making sure people's seatbelts are fastened securely is important, however I think you need to prioritize and solve the crime problem on Parramore and OBT. Your cops are parked right by OBT - perhaps they might want to take a walk back DOWN the hill and do what us taxpayers request (and pay them for) - fight crime, not traffic.

Also - one way to cut down on your budget and over-expenditures - WE DON'T NEED A NEW ARENA! Better yet - let's update the one we have. I know you love knockin' down the buildings ala Tonka Toys style, but dayum. Enough is enough! Even the homeless are pissed.

Let's see if Roscoe or VPCop make an appearance next week.

Open Rant to the OPD...

I was going to post this yesterday, and I know that some of my law enforcement buddies might want to shoot me, but I'm really miffed. Here's why.

All we hear in the news down here in Orlando is how our crime rate is so high, how we had over 60 murders in Orange County and almost 50 murders in Orlando alone in 2006, how even NY's Guardian Angels were so concerned about the alarmingly high rising crime rate that even THEY came down here to clean up our streets, etc. etc. etc. And - to kick off 2007, what do we have - 3 murders in one night. What. The. Hell.

What we also hear (but you may not) is how some of Orlando Police Dept.'s ("OPD") finest just got busted for surfing the *ahem* adult sites at work, that often the Orange County sheriffs & OPD can be found loungin' at Dunkin' Donuts both downtown and in Lake Buena Vista and, more often than not, setting up speed traps, or their version of speed traps.

Do they clean up the apartment building where I live in Lake Buena Vista - no. Now, when we had a domestic in our building where our downstairs neighbor threatened his soon to be ex-wife & her son with a gun because he was off his meds, now those two sheriffs needed a badge of commendation. They were the FIRST set of sheriffs that were not condescending, and they were very knowledgeable and courteous. They weren't Roscoe P. Coltrane and the down home good ol' boys like we often see here. You know the type, older guy with a chip on his shoulder and acts like he's bothered you spilled his coffee. But, there is an *alleged* drug dealer 2 buildings down and he deals openly, but do you think Orange County sheriffs deal with that, or the level of crime on property i.e. break ins, car thefts, rapes, etc.?

Now - listen, before the Law Enforcement crew gets on my back, I have a number of friends that are cops and I beyond respect the badge - just not here in Orlando until they shape up their mess. We've got crime galore and my heart breaks for the homicide crews because they are beyond overworked & overtaxed, but Seriously - Buddy Dyer - do we NEED SO MANY DAMN TRAFFIC TICKET COPS!!!

Case in point -yesterday, I am driving to work and traffic is movin' smoothly. All is well and *bam* on the 3rd day of the year, what do I see: Village People Cop is back again, Roscoe P. Coltrane is acting as lookout and they've got a crew of 8 Orlando Police Officers pulling people over on I-4 next to Exit 82 and wandering through traffic. Not to mention, one of them decided to give me the evil eye like he was going to pull me over - g'head officer - BRING IT cuz I would have a complaint lodged against his badge by the end of the day for no jurisdiction, harassment, etc. I noticed a pattern in the cars pulled over - ethnic or female. What. The. *#*@?? They got the guy behind me for merging into traffic and not using his blinker. Plus, the redneck cop in dire need of a P.T. test that tried to step in front of my car to aggressively waive down the driver in back of me needs to watch where he steps in traffic. He might have lost a toe, or five. I was SOOO tempted to take a pic with a camera phone, and might just do that on the next time. I just was already late for work and what are they going to write me up for on that - paparazzi?

Buddy Dyer - Are you THAT low on funds in the first month of 2007 whereby you've got to have OPD pull over seatbelt offenders for that lovely Click It or Ticket initiative? Do you need to endanger officers lives to have them park down on the exit ramp by OBT, hide their bikes and vehicles, walk up the hill and have them wander like children in traffic without a momma? Don't you think that those officers would better serve the community by perhaps *ahem* fighting crime on the streets, not pursuing those that forget to use their blinker while merging into traffic caused by YOUR officers or those that forgot to click their seat belt? Do you think, perhaps, that you might allocate the budget better to pay the officers their overtime and get rid of this quota mess? Do you think, perhaps, that you might even try to ADDRESS what is causing the crime, rather than sit on your weeble wobble behind and letting others do the work, i.e. the Guardian Angels.

OPD's chief, by no means, is out of my angry glare, but like a good soldier, he is subject to his commander and that is our lovely Mayor who, as you all know, I have no love for. Nor do I have any love for Patty Sheehan (hello - Paris Hilton a good role model for Orlando - I think NOT) or Daisy Lynum (we won't even go into her tirade about her son and how the Guardian Angels are cleaning up her area of town).

Buddy Dyer needs to be held accountable so I'm deciding who to invoice the 20 minutes I was late to - OPD or Buddy Dyer because seriously - that was beyond uncalled for. I called the State Troopers last time this happened at BR's suggestion and they said "Well it's traffic control and we don't care what they do". However, OPD is not working on speeding issues, they are pursuing those not wearing seatbelts and minor traffic violations.

And OPD - take note - you might want to learn a thing or two from Seminole County Sheriffs & Altamonte Springs P.D. - both agencies are tough on crime, don't take any mess and you know what, they are pretty darn nice and don't appear to have a chip growing out of their left shoulder. From all appearances, they seem to have their stuff together.

Now if only Orlando would smarten up.

Open Rant to Buddy Dyer & the Orlando Police Department

I'm beyond heated today… very very heated… so bear with me a bit please.

Buddy Dyer & Mr. Village People Cop - ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THE FRIGGIN SEATBELT CHECKS ON I-4 EAST! (Catch up Here and Here)

Seriously - is there a DIRECT NEED - are you THAT LOW - in the budget that you need that click it or ticket money whereby Mr. Village People and his little crew could potentially cause yet ANOTHER accident?

Yup - it happened again this morning where 6 of Orlando PD's finest wander through the flippin' highway DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR checking to see if we have our seatbelts on. 20 minute backup right by OBT. SO not necessary. Not at all. And here is Mr. Village People cop just wandering through the traffic with his mean old gaze while he has a friggin goofy redneck lookin' "look out" (We'll call him Roscoe) pointing out cars that might be good to pull over. 6 bikes lined up on the grass where the normal driver might not see. 6 cops wandering through traffic and pulling cars over at one of the busiest times of the morning. Are they insane? Give. Me. A. Break.

Orlando Police Department: Daisy Lynum and her profiling issue - I won't even get INTO that mess, but I had your back on that though. Buddy wouldn't even pay your damn OT and I supported your issue. When the Neo-Nazi dorks were here and y'all were mad at Buddy, I again was right there on your side. So, is it that much to ask that you PLEASE put this Village People guy in check and tell him ENOUGH before someone gets hurt, whether it’s a driver, passenger or even, god forbid, an officer. Really people - Stop with the bullshit please.

Buddy - of course, in true weeble wobble fashion, won't do a damn thing. They've been pulling a Cheney again downtown - he's not been sighted in a bit… and today, if I had sighted him, we would have had a discussion. Even if his little nervous weasel lookin' security guard had issues. The damn mayor should have some power, ya think?

Next time I'm late for work due to Mr. Village People, trust me - the state troopers, OPD, and Mayor Weeble Wobble will be asked "Who reimburses MY time over YOUR stupidity" because, seriously - a 20 minute traffic lock up for an $80 ticket is just beyond asinine.

Click It or Ticket...

Well - Florida has a new seatbelt incentive, "Click it or Ticket". 'Sall well and good, except for Thursday when the Orlando Police Department took it too far. I was stuck in traffic on I-4 Eastbound, headed towards Downtown Orlando and, while there normally is traffic, that morning it was beyond normal - it was utter gridlock which, in normal terms, can lead one to believe there is a pretty bad accident.

Inch by Inch the cars move and I get to the OBT Exit - okay - no accident. Right AFTER the OBT exit, I see the problem. 5 Orlando Police Officers (and one of them, I swear, looked like the Cop from the Village People) were walking through the traffic on an interstate highway checking cars for seatbelts. In Morning Rush Hour, no less What. The. Hell.

I had my seatbelt, so I had no worries, but Mr. Village People decided to check all IN my car windows in case I was harboring someone who didn't wear a seatbelt like a bad scene from the Fugitive. I rolled my eyes at the idiot and he caught the taxi driver on the OTHER side of me (middle lane) and decided to pull him over THROUGH traffic to ticket him. Morning rush hour traffic and you are going to have a car go in front of me to get your fee? What idiocy (insert another eye roll here).

SO, now I'm beyond exasperated, 30 minutes late for work AND I see flashing lights ahead. Wait - there's an ambulance and fire truck - so there IS an accident. It's before the Kaley exit - about 50 ft. or so from the wandering cops and traffic starts to clear after we all pass inspection. Traffic is flowing like a breeze through the accident scene (which, for Orlando - no rubbernecking? Wow - that's a first)

Well, to my right, sure enough, there is an accident - 3 cars that are pretty bad off, ONE COP processing the ENTIRE scene, and there is an ambulance and fire truck. DO you think this one cop having to deal with 3 vehicles could use some help? My guess is his partner was 50 ft. behind over by OBT wandering through traffic trying to make that "elusive" quota that Florida so often denies having.

I guess Doc Holliday is right when he says that Click It or Ticket is really a fundraiser. However, I expect this idiocy of wandering through traffic from the Orange County Sheriffs, not the Orlando Police Department.

OPD - GET IT TOGETHER and, don't endanger your guys by making them walk through rush hour traffic to get your stupid $80 ticket! Don't you have a rash of crime to worry about?
