How I Spent My 1/2 Day...

Well, I wound up getting a half day off, and how productive was I. I would have much rather taken the time for myself to relax, but no. I had to go to the doctor to check out the shoulder. You know that S&TC ep where the girl makes "the face" at Carrie re: Aidan. Well, my shoulder generated the face to where I really am now concerned.

First, the doctor goes and takes a look at the shoulder all while producing lots of pain for me. He then asks if I ever was in a car accident on that side. Yup - in a graveyard in Philly. (don't ask). I was hit on the driver's side head on, which pushed me over to the passenger side. Mind you this was in 97. It's now almost 10 years later and NOW I'm having problems?? Hello - McFly?!?!?! Uggghhhhh. So he then tells me, "This is not good" and informs me that I need to get XRays, Stat. He gives me my lovely parting gift of my prescriptions and sends me on my merry way with a "Lys, you're 34, right?" When I respond, yes he tells me "Oh you got a good 6 years left - once you hit 40, its all downhill from there." Really comforting, doc. On a good note, I learned I lost 12 lbs since November. It would have been more, but between PMS, my heels and the holidays, I am fighting 5lbs. That's a positive, right?

I call the hospital to make an appointment with imaging and am told to go right in. When I read my notes from my Doctor, the woman on the phone responds, "Honey, that's not good". I ask her what's not good and she says, "Well you have to do a C-Spine Xray. That's never a good thing. Good luck". Now I'm more nervous. But, I still have to sign my lease for my apartment, so off I fly to the apartment complex.

20 minutes later I'm signing the lease and its back to the hospital. Now, the hospital is built like a gorgeous resort. Well, with the looks it means that the prices for an aspirin must be at a premium. I know Roomie had her heart scare here so I'm prepared. Well, finance greets me (its all about the $$ here) and I'm informed that I would have to pay 20% and they would like a deposit on that 20% for my Xrays - Oh HECK no - I'm not admitted, nor am I in the ER. I'm an outpatient. Well, I cut a break and was told that Blue Cross would have to make a call about it but lets get the Xrays done first.

So, its off to my final destination. A cold, sterile room with lots of fun gadgets. I'm greeted by this really attractive guy and my radar keeps going *confused* *confused* so rather than flirt, I play it cool. He's very meterosexual, so I'm not taking any chances. Nice guy - pleasant conversation. As I'm shoved left and right and my shoulder is posed, poked and prodded, my nerves go into overdrive. Then, the spine photoshoot - fun, fun. They even have murals on the ceiling. When I was a kid, all I had to look at was tiles, so this was an improvement.

Well, Mr. Lab Tech looks at my films and when I ask if everything was okay - his response - THE FACE! I ask him to tell me what's wrong, but he informs me that he can't do that since he's not a doctor, but assures me that my doctor would call me in 24 hours. All while still staring at the screen and refusing to look at me - now either they found the Hope Diamond in my shoulder or I got problems...

So with that, I'm off to go pop a painkiller and yes, I indulged in a little retail therapy to avoid flashbacks of the face. I'll update tomorrow.

Insomnia Hit and Run...

Could NOT fall asleep for the life of me. Here we go again... however, I have learned that I do NOT like Emily & Sonny together on GH, Robert Scorpio has returned, last week's ep of CSI was amazing, Michael J. Fox nailed the role on Boston Legal and Fuel has a new video out. Forgot how much I like that band. Oh yeah, and Jessica Simpson harping on and on about how "bad" her skin is on those Proactiv commercials is a waste of $2mil that the company could have used toward something else.

So now its off to go get ready for work. Should have used a sick day...

I'm In A Funk...

Don't know what is fueling it, but I'm not in the mood to be social. Maybe its anxiety over having to go to the doctor tomorrow for that nagging problem with my shoulder. Maybe its anxiety over work. Maybe its because when I least expect it, people in my past have a habit of rearing back up and reappear, forcing me to reflect on past issues that have never been resolved. I'd go more into detail, however I don't think I'm up for that just yet.

I'm just thankful that I have a half a day tomorrow because I honestly need to find a way to work through this stress. This is one case where retail therapy won't help. *sigh*

Roomie's Update...

Well, Roomie is home resting, and the doctor packed up her wound with gauze while it "drains". Can I say, I had a flashback to when Meowmix was in the hospital after the doctor botched up her c-section and she got an infection, causing Meowmix to have her stomach packed up with gauze a few years ago. Lucky me, I just so happened to be there while they were changing the gauze??

Well, that's what happened last night when I hear Roomie scream because she was looking at the gauze and "accidently" pulled some of it out. This time, I didn't turn green, applied all that I learned from eps of ER and Grey's Anatomy (My thanks to McDreamy and Clooney), and Roomie was enjoying the after affects of the Vicodin while getting a new bandage and gauze.

Then we had the lovely "discussion" with the Walgreen's pharmacist who gave Roomie the wrong type of pills (he gave her capsules when the doctor clearly said tabs). The idiot refused to correct it and Roomie, being that she is an employee of the Damn Rat (cough cough Mickey), had no health insurance. Walgreens INSISTED that she eat the $31.00 she already paid and now pay $91.00 for a LIQUID version.

1) Pharmacist never said squat about a liquid being available until the end.
2) They don't believe in they are ever wrong which, in this case, they were.
3) According to the other Walgreens down the street, I was told that this was for "profitability" measures and the determination could only be made by a Pharmacy Manager AND the store manager.

Roomie is now going to fill her prescriptions at Costco. I should have asked for some Xanax as a nice parting gift! And in other news, the damn rat told her she had to work today, regardless of the doctor. Gotta love Orlando...

I'm Gonna Go Gray!

It's a wonder why I don't have any gray hair yet. Besides getting attacked by a palmetto bug this morning (who KNEW those suckers could fly - ewwwwwwww)… I got a call from Roomie which went like this:

Roomie: Are you at work?
Lys: Of course, where else would I be?
Roomie: Now don't panic.
Lys: About?
Roomie: I don't want you to freak out or nothing
Lys: Tell me?!?!?! *while thinking last time I got this call she was in the ER with chest pains*
Roomie: I just got out of the ER.
Lys: OK (calmly while picturing my cat slapping her). What was wrong?
Roomie: They cut me.
Lys: They WHAT?
Roomie: I had an abscess. That's why I was feeling bad the past couple of days. They cut up my arm.
Lys: *runs to 'net to look up abscess* AND?
Roomie: They told me it could spread. They won't let me work until the 27th.
Lys: OK and?
Roomie: They gave me a prescription for Vicodin. Is that good?
Lys: Plan on being higher than a kite. Enjoy!

So I'm off to go pick her up some KFC and watch Shadow pummel her for not going to the doctor when I told her to go originally. *sigh*

So Cute!

A few years ago, I got a thank you note from Reese and it was on the cutest stationary. Lately, I've noticed that I'm finding myself looking more for notecards that reflect my personality so that I can start doing something more ladylike than just shooting off an email to my friends and family. I was so thrilled to find this shop with notecards that just scream So Cute! So ME!

(and there's even one that I think Kalisah would adore.)

I do believe in the power of shoes, don't you?

Time to Buckle Down...

So much has happened in the past week, where I feel that my normal vice/virtue of Starbucks can't even cheer up this blonde. I've made a conscious effort & decision to work on my finances and have been struggling with trying to figure out how to afford LA when I have bills looming. Well, fate decided to send me a wakeup call in the terms of a light flickin' on in my car warning me that a tune up is on the horizon. Instead of counting on money I don't have, I decided to cancel my L.A. trip to reschedule for something less "industry" and will go out there hopefully in April.

It's not like I can't drop by to see my friends out there, but with a artist having an album coming out shortly, new clients AND a whole PR campaign that needs my attention/focus, I need to really buckle down. It's still an honor to be invited and I am stepping up a notch and getting more involved in the NARAS activities here in Florida. We have a reception in Miami during Winter Music Conference which pans out PERFECTLY with one of my artist's singles that will be coming out at that time. So Miami will be on my radar in March. Plus - it’s a 4 hour drive ;) Much better than a plane ride, hotel, car rental and shopping.

Also, the past week has involved me having issues of not being able to fall asleep til 2/3 o'clock EVERY night only to have to wake up at 5/5:30 in the morning. This lack of sleep is kickin' my butt, severely. I'm hoping that I'll be able to catch up on my sleep oh, in about a month or two.

On a good note, I finally caught the premiere ep of Love Monkey. What a GREAT show. Yeah, I know - it’s a tad male Sex & The Cityish, however where the main character works in music, a lot of what he echoed (and his friends echoed) was on par with what my friends and I have to go through. Being in entertainment, your life is not your own sometimes. You have to worry about what your artists are doing, their charts, how they are feeling, and it sometimes pans out to be a 24/7 job when you are touring. Early mornings, late nights and sleep when you can. God forbid if you have a nightmare client. So when the main character was told by his girl that he was "married to his music", its true.

I can't even BEGIN to tell you about my nightmare ex. One story comes to mind where I brought him to an event and I get told later by a producer friend that my ex was trying to broker a record deal while drunk. Mind you, my ex wasn't even in the music business, not managing any act, not affiliated with any act, just drunk and trying to play the "big man" role. Its memories like that which remind me why I try to keep my personal and business lives separate and am cautious with the men I encounter. My career is like my child right now. I've worked hard over the years, put up with alot and kept my nose clean, so I don't want to screw that up at all! I'm not going to introduce any ol' guy to it, ya know?

So now that I've rambled on, its back to the grindstone!

Ahhh.. Friday the 13th is OVER!

Thank GOD! I'm superstitious re: Friday the 13th and have been ever since I can remember. Yesterday made Monday look like a walk in the park. I'd go into detail but lets not and say I did, 'kay? All I will say is while my FIRM has Monday off, I was told that I do not and am expected to work. Fine - but they best have some damn coffee up in that place for me or heads will roll. (my new phrase).

On a finance note, I've done well with my saving and haven't blown my stash on some cute little Dior heels that I found on EBay. I've also decided that I'm going to sell my clothes that are WAY too big for me on EBay starting this week. The fact that the weight is falling off is giving me hope for Las Vegas in May.

Personally, I did this whole post about this damn pompous attorney I met last night which reminded me WHY I wouldn't date him in the first place, but you know what - I'm tossing out the bad karma and refuse to regurgitate bullsh** As I told a friend today, with all that's on my plate right now, any bull cluttering up my brain is unwelcome. I got enough to deal with.

But on a good note, the LA trip is starting to come together nicely. Now if only I can put together my new smaller wardrobe ;)

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

Gratuities...

When one charges out tip for delivery of Chinese food, why must the delivery guy insist that I have to add an additional tip to the 2 dollars I already tipped him on my credit card? Also, I thought a tip was that - a tip. Since when has a tip become a must?

He got 2 dollars. I had cold and burnt food. It worked out perfectly, IMO as I sit here reflecting with a nice glass of white merlot.

Happy Happy! Joy Joy!

Ok - the Karmic spiral has now proceeded to go back in an upward pattern, thank god, after yesterday's chaos. You know, as much as I rant about my goal to look at the glass as "half full", yesterday that was not an option. However, while the devil was prodding me into Meltdown #2 this morning, I dug my cute new raisin stilettos in and refused.

  • Even after being caught in traffic for an hour and a half.
  • Even after my voicemail at work got more action than I've had lately.
  • Even after missing my "I'll be nice and bring in coffee" Starbucks run. (I figured that since yesterday's drama all occured without my mandatory ice coffee, that it would be wise for me to grab some coffee not only for me, but for those that had to be subjected to overhearing my "heads are going to roll, and it won't be mine" comment yesterday during the meltdown. Due to said traffic and getting in at quarter to 10, my good deed would go undone *sigh*)
  • Even after hearing that the maintenance guy at my apartment complex left my front door unlocked while he proceeded to try to get a date with some girl in a van. (Little did he know that Roomie was watching the whole time and checked the door since he pulled this move AFTER he watched her leave the apartment.)
  • Even after hearing that above said dingbat said he was going to "get a tool" (yeah - more like a phone number) and trying to cover his ass, I reminded the new apartment manager that, unlike my roommate, I'm not the nice one and they should remember that. If they think I'm bad, they really will hate the cat.
  • Even after hearing that a gig for a client of mine was cancelled with no explanation.

Well, Karma was even nice to me after I got my Starbucks this afternoon. Not only did I go back on even keel after my iced venti nonfat caramel macchiato, and received a full blown apology from my apartment complex for dingbat's actions, Karma smiled on me with a big sunshine grin. Know why -

I Got A Raise. Yup, that's right. And not just what I got last year, but double that percentage. I about fell over in my chair. Drinks Friday night to celebrate. Plan accordingly people.

Why Is It...

That time seems to fly on the weekends? *sigh* I miss the Monday off - was getting used to that little luxury. Oh well. Another day, another dollar, right?

Actually, I really can't complain about the weekend. I had a great conversation with BR and finally decided that I'm going to look into getting my master's degree. He's always been a strong campaigner for me going back to school and, after telling him that law school is NOT an option, I did agree to look into the master's degree in public relations. I think I'm going to take an online course to get back into the swing of things but, depending on where I end up next year, I don't know whether to look at UCF or Temple.

The other point to ponder is, is Florida REALLY all that bad? Besides, of course the hurricanes, palmetto bugs, mosquitoes in January, alligators croaking their little lullabies, etc. I need to really put some serious thought into this. Can you tell I sign my lease tomorrow? Committing to yet another year here in the land of the damn rat is enough to scare me senseless. I always say "This is going to be my last year" but then me and my shoe collection get comfortable in this lovely little apartment. Mark my words, I will NOT be renewing my lease in 2007. There, I have it in writing. I'd sign it in blood but that's just plain gross.

2006, yet while still rocky, is off to a decent start.

A to Z...

A meme from Ms. Sizzle I'm not tagging anyone but figured it was cute enough to hijack!

[A is for age:]
34. Hey - much like wine, one gets better with age.

[B is for booze of choice]
Oh this is a tough one - I have a three way tie - Captain Morgan (great w/ Diet Coke and a hint of lime), Baileys (rocks please) OR White Merlot, my new obsession.

[C is for career]
Publicist with a soul, but thanks to an interesting turn of events, I also work in the legal field :)

[D is for your dog's name:]
No dog - just a cat named Shadow. Should I EVER get a dog, Shadow will promptly send him/her packing.

[E is for essential items you use everyday:]
Ice Coffee. Computer. Lipgloss. Jonathan product. My ATM Card. Toothpaste. Origins Face Wash. Moisturizer.

[F is for favorite song(s) at the moment:]
Flirt - Pussycat Dolls
Dance Dance - Fall Out Boy
Sick & Tired - Anastacia
Attack - 30 Seconds to Mars

[G is for favorite games:]
GAMES? Oh lord - don't have any - umm… duck duck goose? j/k Wait - I do like Blackjack.

[H is for hometown:]
Agawam, MA but I'm still a Philly Girl at heart. Agawam is NOT my favorite town/city. Too corrupt for my liking. Do a google search and look for Lisa Ziegert - that case alone made me grateful to GET OUT!

[I is for instruments you play:]
Wow - piano. My mom had me take lessons forever. Can't say I'm that good, however I can play by ear if I try. I haven't thought about that in ages.

[J is for jam or jelly you like:]
Don't really like jelly, but if I have to, orange marmalade

[K is for kids?]
Not a one.

[L is for last kiss?:]
Not saying ;)

[M is for most admired trait:]
Hmmm… I'd have to say my loyalty and determination. I refuse to compromise my principles or my friendships.

[N is for name of your crush:]
George (as in Clooney or Eads). Refer to this post.

[O is for overnight hospital stays:]
None. Thank god.

[P is for phobias:]
Mail. Relationships.

[Q is for quotes you like:]
What if the question is not "Why am I so infrequently the person I really want to be", but "Why do I so infrequently want to be the person I really am?” - Oriah Mountain Dreamer

[R is for biggest regret:]
Fighting with Nick before he died. What I wouldn't give for 5 minutes to tell him I was sorry :(. Stubborness (which kept up that fight) is one of my not so friendly traits.

[S is for sweets of your choice:]
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Flan or Creme Brulee'.

[T is for time you wake up:]
5:15 on a good day. Most of the time its later than that with me going "****, I'M LATE!".

[U is for underwear:]
Of course - other than that - you don't need to know ;)

[V is for vegetables you love:]
Corn and Asparagus.

[W is for worst habit:]
I procrastinate and, of course, the shiny penny syndrome.

[X is for x-rays you've had:]
When I was in a big car accident, they had to x-ray my back. Thank god I was only badly bruised. Damn my ex!

[Y is for yummy food you make:]
I make a mean Arroz con Pollo, gringa style. I can say that my cooking has stepped up a notch. Thank you Food Network!

[Z is for zodiac sign:]
Scorpio Baby! Take note - I'm a bitch by birth.

Warrior Soul - Are They Serious??

Ok, I admit now that I was a tad bored so I did little survey thing and I have to agree with some of its comments, including the headstrong comment, but I'd have to say that I attribute that to my Irish/Indian ancestry ;)

You Are a Warrior Soul

You're a strong person and sometimes seen as intimidating.
You don't give up. You're committed and brave.
Truly adventuresome, you are not afraid of going to battle.
Extremely protective of loved ones, you root for the underdog.

You are picky about details and rigorous in your methods.
You also value honesty and fairness a great deal.
You can be outspoken, intimidating, headstrong, and demanding.
You're a hardliner who demands the best from themselves and others.

To kick off 2006 - S&TC Quote to Ponder...

I admit it's tempting to wish for the perfect boss, the perfect parent, or the perfect outfit. But maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we've been dealt, and accessorize what we've got. ~ Carrie Bradshaw
