Forgive Me Internets For I Have Sinned...

It's been days since my last blog post.

So, yeah, you all are sick of hearing me say "Life is getting in the way" but, quite frankly, I'm going to keep saying it.  Lots of fodder over the weekend jaunt to Philadelphia but I really don't know where to begin.  So, since I have the day off to pick up Mr.Wiggles from his extended posh puggy vacay, I will have to upload photos with the appropriate snarky remark and hope that it translates.

Also, I have to say this to the Boston fans in the back of the house - send me to a Phillies game to cheer on my team and my team will spank the Red Sox every.time.  So now I have a new tradition - that being to watch my team in person beat my family and friends' favorite team into the ground.  Yeah I know - tres thrilling.  See, haven't you missed me?

Also, I have so much thinking to do after this trip - opportunity is just around the corner - it's a question of wrapping my head around the ideas and running with it - not just pulling my standard m.o. - that being ostrich + head + sand = Lys' usual way of dealing with crap.

Thankfully, SL took care of little Ms. Shadow but I think she'll be happy to hear her momma come home - at least for a day.  The Pug - that sucker better sing for me when he sees me.  I missed the two furballs.  I even called his little "daycare" spot to see if he's been behaving.  They told me he's been an angel - I think they are lying.  This dog kicked sand all over a blind girl doggie during his last stay - angel my butt.  This is Wiggs we're talking about.  He and I have had such a rough go of it lately where I was doubting my patience level or if he even cares to stay with me or move onto a new home.  He tends to last a few months and then get rambunctious and he's been misbehaving so much lately that I feel like he's a two year old and needs constant attention.  Perhaps its due to his history - or not.  Either way, he needs to learn "quiet/peace/calm the *@*!!* down"  As I told Rifleman, giving him up is not an option - he's with me for a good 10 years or so and somehow Wiggs and I have to pull a Tim Gunn and "Make It Work".

Here's a story for you - Shadow's been getting him worked up.  He sees her and he wants to chase. When he's calm, he doesn't chase.  Well, her way of getting him in trouble - appearing the doorway of the bedroom, making noise, staring him down as he's laying on the bed and *boom* he's off and running. Often this happens at 3/4 in the morning necessitating me to get up and go get him and put him back on the bed only for her to wait 30 min. and do it again.  He also runs around the bed like "Momma get up!  Shadow play!" and one morning it was so hot, he got so excited and he threw up ON MY FACE!

No, you read that right - my face, my pillow - everything.  He just let one loose - Exorcist style.  Who was the culprit - the cat for getting him worked up and him for downing vats of water.  So I hope she finds a way to live with him because me and my pillow were at wits end.

Also, before I left I had to get a new water dish - in Florida, <del> Oversize Cockroaches</del> <del> palmettos </del> waterbugs *snort*  tend to love the dishes and I found 4 of those suckers in the internal housing of the animals $70 platinum fountain having a party on the carbon filter.  That fountain went in the trash so quickly I was done.  My dad wanted to know if I could salvage - no, I'm sorry - I'm not going to have my animals drinking out of a porous plastic "fountain" that has been doused in bleach.  So I went off to PetSmart before I left to pick up some "Vegas" style fountain for the cat - and let me tell you that putting it together almost killed me. You need a master's degree to put that crap together.   For the price I paid, not only should it have been pre-assembled, but also should have come with a cocktail (or three) Couple that with no sleep and I was one cranky ***** on the flight down.  Now that I'm heading  back to Orlando, I'm quasi-relaxed and ready for the week ahead.

Well, at least after I finish this Baileys - I clearly didn't drink enough on this trip.

Blogging From 30,000 Feet....

Did you know that AirTran has wireless on their flights?  I just recently learned that and, sure enough, my flight this morning to Philly is GoGo enabled.  Yay!  The one bright spot because, as to be expected, it was a comedy of errors starting with my lack of "get up and go" last night after dropping Wiggs off at his Daycare for his "vacation".  I didn't rest last night because, well, with an early morning flight, I need to not oversleep.  As I had to work yesterday, things just totally fell behind.  So I cleaned my house, did laundry, worked on my closet - the stuff I can't do without Wiggs chasin' after me every 5 min.  I even had to put together a new automatic waterer for the cat so it was busy but not super crazed.  I didn't even pack until 4:30/5 this morning.  I figured, eeeh - casual at best.  However, yes, I did pack the Loubous in case I want to whap Rifleman or Ant upside the head.  I figure the red sole should conceal any spatter, right? (I'm kidding - well, at least with Ant.  *seriously praying that Rifleman lost the blog link*).  It's been one of those months.

Then, this morning my attitude got riled up because my stupid credit card decided to "unilaterally shut down accounts" and give us new accounts.  They say its "Bank prerogative", I think someone got hacked or had a security risk.  Either way, the fact remains that I was not privy to this.  Even worse is that I do not have my "new" card yet and guess what card is securing my car rental at Hertz.  Yup - the old one that they decided was not active.  Ugh.  So, I sat on the phone screaming at Ben and Colin in India - two absolute imbeciles who didn't understand the phrase "Don't you DARE touch my account!" and the language barrier with both of the idiots was beyond evident.  (Tribute - you get a big fat fail and, trust me when I say that you and I will have a come to Jesus meeting and you will hate me after it - of that I'm sure).  In this economy, credit cards are having issues, sure, but for me, a fab customer, a little courtesy is seriously in order.  Again - Tribute - FAIL!

Then I get to the airport annoyed as all hell to find out that my flight was delayed by 30 min.  Finally - I caught a break and went to Starbucks to chill out for a hot second, call Hertz in Philly and find out how we were going to fix this mess (they had me log onto my account at the airport and change out my cards.  Tribute - you SUCK!  Oh - and for that you owe me $5.00).  So, I figured, eeeh - I'm delayed - I got time.  Well, I didn't have time because AirTran decided that we were, indeed, going to depart at 8:46.  Oy to the vey.  Armed with my Starbucks, I jumped on the plane and *boom* AirTran has wireless Internet.  It is, however, too early to get a free cocktail.  Perhaps on the ride home.

So, when I land I plan on doing not too much this afternoon.  I have to stop by B. and Rifleman's joint to pick up tix to the RedSox/Phillies matchup for Sunday (Thanks Mel!), head to the hotel, mosey around Cherry Hill for a bit and then it's the Randori show.  Tomorrow, my dad heads into Philly and we have some family stuff to attend to and he gets to see my fave city.  It's changed a bit since my days in High School.  There is so much to do and not enough time in the day - so as if I don't blog sporadically enough, y'all now know that I might or might not blog while running around Philly.  It all depends on time.  I'll be back on Monday, pick up Wiggs on Tuesday and then life is back to quasi normal - at least until August.

Other than that, what do you have planned for this weekend?

Ahhhh - Sunburn. How I [Didn't] Miss Thee...

This whole weekend was a whirlwind - baseball game on Saturday in Clearwater (Tigers what, Tigers who - should have rolled over and went belly up in the 3rd inning - sorry Hotfessional! and another game here in the land of the Rat on Sunday (they lost - dangnabit but it was to a cute bunch of players - be still my heart, I think I found Rhett Butler in the ATL!) All in all, great company, beer, substandard but still better than Subway cheesesteaks and fun times. No Victorino spotting, but I've decided to head to a Phillies/Rays game this season so I can see my fave "Flyin' Hawaiian".

However, the game left me with something that is NOT so nice - a bright red sunburn which begins on my ear, goes down my neck and covers my right arm and hand. Just one long red hurtful stripe. :::sigh::: Well then - I know my Phillies want me to wear "red" but I don't think a sunburn was the translation

Oh well - thankfully I found in the back of my cabinets some Alba "After Sun Relief" lotion - that stuff makes it feel a little bit better... Now if only I could find something that would help my Phillies win a couple games!

Why Is It...

Bullets abound... be prepared... get that coffee/wine/cocktail and hurry back.

Why is it:

  • That when life gets crazy, one gets caught up in the whirlwind. The 9to5, home and don't even get me started on the pug has me going "WTH"
  • That when I'm away from my feed reader, I come back to *gah* so many blog posts that I wish my speed reading also came with speed commenting and, sadly, that can never be. I'm contemplating the idea of doing the unthinkable and hit the "Wipe Slate Clean" aka Mark All Read and hope that you all will forgive me as I start fresh. I figure you don't want 20 bizillion comments from the posts over the last month do you?
  • That people insist on playing the "blame game". I don't care WHO screwed something up - let's just figure out a solution and move on. Gah - if I hear one more person go "It's not my fault, so and so did that" I'm going to have a come to Jesus meeting with them and they will think I'm really a shrew.
  • That when some people are given an inch, they go for a foot. I know I try to be accomodating but c'mon - people need to use their brains and common sense more. I can't do EVERYTHING. Ugh!
  • That when I say I'm going to be nicer for Lent, I'm told I'm TOO nice and need to be more of a wench. That shocked me because I thought I had the wench thing down pat.
  • That my travels have been curtailed because I need to start focusing on the daily life here and, perhaps, I can go to Philly in a few months. Right now I am just too daggone busy.
  • That I have two (2!!!) Phillies games this weekend and it hasn't hit me yet that while my Philly crew is going to be freezing in their 1 ft. of snow, I'm going to be basking in the sun staring at Shane Victorino and the boys hopefully kickin' the Braves and the Detroit Lions butts.
  • That my cooking, while it has improved since I decided to pay attention at SOBE and actually WRITE about not only my time there but try some recipes (you can see the post HERE), it took one heavy pot to kick my ass and I pulled a muscle that hurt so badly that I am hobbling worse then that hunchback of Notre Dame. It even had me passin' out at 9:30 last night (which pissed off the garbage pail pug and I missed "24". Thank god for TiVo.
  • Speaking of TiVo - what is with it with me and stupid shows? Don't get me wrong, you'd have to drag me kickin' and screaming from NCIS, Criminal Minds and CSI (The ORIGINAL - I could care less about the other two) but I HAD to TiVo some new stupid show Running in Heels (duh, the title alone made me hit the "Season Pass" button) and I'm ready to cat scratch one of the wenches on there. And, yes, I got sucked into the Real Housewives of NYC phenom (ugh Alex!!! Had no idea Bethany was at SOBE) and Top Chef (disappointing season - ready to smack up Hosea. Personally I don't care if he got "close" with Leah.) All in all, I'm turning into a fan of the reality "mind suck". Clearly, this needs to be addressed and stopped post haste and I need to be smacked.
  • That I haven't even had the urge to shop - don't get me wrong, I read my sale alerts and, yes, I contemplated a pair of Loubous that were $300 in my size but I'm not Elvis. I don't need any blue suede shoes boots.
  • That I just really want it to be Friday already because, dammit, this gal is exhausted.

And how are you all? C'mon tell me - what did I miss?

What A Weekend...

I don't even know WHERE to begin - but I know I'll be yippin' about my experience at South Beach Wine & Food Festival over at Cooking in Stilettos this week. Just still recovering from the 8 hours on the road and all the chaos while I was down there. Let's just say that I was wrong about a couple things, it was definitely worth the time and expense and I thoroughly would recommend that more peeps go next year.

However, today it's Ash Wednesday and I haven't decided what I'm giving up for Lent. My co-workers have suggested that giving up coffee is NOT an option - for their safety moreso than for saving my sanity. Lent came up so quickly this year that I wasn't prepared. I can't give up swearing either because, quite frankly, after 12 years of Catholic school, cussin' like a sailor is embedded in my persona. I could try but that's setting one up for instant failure. Same with not buying shoes. I'm hoping for a little divine inspiration.

However, this is what greeted me when I came home.

How can one not look at that friendly face and smile...

Recap - In Bullet Form...

My mind is still unable to form massive paragraphs to let you know what's been going on here in the land of the Rat so I'll give you the update in bullet points...
  • The Pug & The Cat: Still warring - but this is totally on the cat's doing. She's screaming bloody murder every time he wants to play or give her a smooch. Eeehhhh - she's going to hate not having cookiez if she keeps this up.
  • The Pug: OMG - I have adopted a garbage pail. He. Eats. EVERYTHING! I mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. I feel like I have a 2 year old where I'm constantly chasing him going "Wiggs - what the eff did you eat. Spit it out!" And we won't go into the sushi argument. Apparently, because I had sushi tonight, in his mind I was obligated to share. I didn't. He's pissed. Tough shit. I should just give him some Wasabi and see how that frosts his cookie. He'll have a jambalaya flashback to last week where he begged and whined and barked and pleaded only to get a small morsel. By his standards it was lip smackin' good - until the heat kicked in and that little pug ran for his water dish. Don't think he'll bug me for jambalaya again...
  • The Pug: Also has issues where he spins on his tail again -anal gland issues. I know. I know TMI. But you know things are bad when you email the vet for an appointment and know that you will get charged for "Hazardous waste disposal". It's going to be a recurrent 6 week expense. Lucky. Ducky. Me. Shoe fund is depleting before my eyes.
  • Cooking took a backseat to life and the revamp of the culinary blog. I seemed to have gotten my culinary mojo motor running and we'll see what happens next weekend as I head down to South Beach for a little "research" and fun as I attend Food Network's South Beach Food & Wine Festival. Can't wait to see the culinary demonstrations - Sunny Anderson, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence, Michael Symon, Anne Burrell and so many more. Will take pictures - promise.
  • My neighbors - downstairs. If I have to deal with the residuals of ONE MORE FOOD FIGHT, I swear I'm going to flip a kid. The parking is non-existent as there are 3-4 roommates and they all have friends coming in and out all. the. damn. time. They apparently go to the "Golf School". I should have known when I saw one of the idiots waving a golf club at an overhead light like it was a game. The complex says that "well, boys will be boys". That's fine but the one problem with the food fights and their constant mess is the fact that we have a resurgence of palmettos. GEE THANKS! Hmm... wonder I catch a couple of the slimy rat bastid bugs, I could just leave them for the idiots.
  • The shoe shopping has been pretty quiet - but don't worry. I have a few good "OBSESSED WITH" selections this week that will show y'all that I haven't lost my shoe game JUST yet.

And, how are y'all doing?

Utter Randomness...

To quote Hotfessional, "Oh My Holy Hell Y'all". What a flippin' WEEK!

Yeah, the 9to9 has kicked my butt, the constant Menagerie War is driving me batty and I just want a do-over and go back to the days where I could sleep late and not have to worry about "Crap - I need to get my azz up so Sir Pees Alot doesn't christen Shadow's blanket!" However I have a few things that are makin' me go "Hot Damn!"
  • We have a new Prezzie! I was very pleased to see the inauguration. Even better was seeing the pics from friends who actually went. One of my Philly gals, Suz, sent us a pic from her cell while she was working the event - she was one of the police officers that was providing the much needed security on the parade route. Don't mess with that gal - trust! Anyhow - I'd post the pic but she might kick MY azz for posting it - let's just say it made some people shake their head going "Only Suz!" She is in a YouTube video but to quote my dad "Suz was supposed to watch the crowd NOT watch the parade!" Again, only Suz.
  • While I'm freezing my butt off during this cold snap, I'm happy to think that in a month or so, I'll be spending some time here in Central Florida with some fabulous men - Shane Victorino, Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson, Cole Hamels - yup. This gal got her spring training tickets and I'll be watchin' my beloved Phillies spank some Detroit and Atlanta azz (Sorry Hot & Bren!). Now if only Rifleman and Ant could hook some gals up with an op to actually meet the guys. Guess I'll have to wait to go to Philly to do that.
  • Speaking of travel, this wench gets to go to South Beach for the South Beach Wine & Food Festival! I got my tickets and everything so you know I'm beyond stoked - even if it is for a day or so. To have an op. to see some great chefs and foodie peeps is awesome! Now if only I can convince SL to walk the peeing monster while I'm in Miami...
  • Also, there's a chance I might head back to Miami for a day or so at Winter Music Conference - not sure just yet. I've been focusing on the culinary world for my writing and not really dabbling in the music stuff like I used to. However, I got a call tonight from a former client so we'll see if I need to go to the Grammy reception for WMC and catch up with some old friends. Problem is that labels cut their budgets left and right and not as many label reps have jobs let alone travel budgets. I'm still on the fence.
  • One gripe - I ALMOST got my Loubous. They had the Mini Bout peep toe marked down 50% + IN MY SIZE this morning and some wench bought it and I couldn't check out with it :::sigh::: So close but yet so far. One day!
  • I finally started making some serious dents in my Google Reader. If I haven't been by yet, I will be soon. Like I said - it's been chaos. I just need to figure out Kristabella's comment system because I'm an airhead and can never remember what I was originally going to say when I read the post through the feeder and starred it for follow up.

Yeah, that's about it in a nutshell. Thrilling, huh? So how are y'all doing?

I'm A Snowbird, Baby, & Flying South...

So there's yippin' about all things Nor'Easter today (and they were even talking about how all points Seattle and Oregon are going to get slammed as well - sorry SSG, Predo & Michelle!) Want to scare the bejezus out of me - make me deal with snow and icy conditions.

I'm looking forward to 80 degree weather, a warm and sunny holiday season, the ability to NOT wear gloves, jackets and scarves, peep toe heels, light sweaters and wandering through UpTown Altamonte to enjoy the holiday season without having red face syndrome from the wind chill.

While I love my peeps up here in the North, I'm going to channel my inner snowbird and fly south, my friends. I'll be back up in Philly when it's warm.

And on a random note, I passed out early last night because, quite frankly, I'm exhausted (and relaxed). I woke up this morning only to open my eyes to the Philadelphia Visitor's channel on tv only to see BMIC (current) and Rifleman's (former) establishment on the screen, Ant behind the bar chattin' up a gal and Melis pouring a beer at her former job before she headed to my fave spot. Yup - they were talking about Manayunk. It was nice to see that place spotlighted. However, I'll be thankful to be coming back when the spot is finished as BMIC is the new owner and Rifleman, while he's still there, has other irons in the fire. Talk about a random thing to wake up to...

So now I'm off to squeeze the bizillion spices and other goodies I purchased for the holidays into my bag and figure out if I can have the front desk just ship my shoes tomorrow back to the office. I mean, I'm not going to wear those needle heels EVER again on cobblestones, let alone have them on my feet for a month. I have been in flats ever since, even if Rifleman says I'm "effin' short." I'll channel my inner munchkin and adjust.

A Short, Yet Pleasant Jaunt...

Well, I took Predo's advice and just chilled around the city today. I slept in, caught up on some emails, etc. in my fancy lounger by the window overlooking the river and the Ben Franklin Bridge and then sauntered over to the Italian Market to pick up a few things for the holidays. I love getting the fresh spices from there and it's so much better than buying the spices at the grocery store. Along with picking up MORE coffee again and some chocolates for some people, I was pretty much shopped out. I also took time to reflect on the blessings that I've experienced over the past year and gave thanks for all that I've been able to experience.

Yesterday's events were pretty relaxed as well. After I landed, it was off to the Cherry Hill mall to find *the* outfit for the night's events. I just wasn't comfortable with what I packed. It was too late to stop by Justine's grave as the mausoleum closes at 3:00. Based on the conditions I heard we were to encounter, I decided casual was best along with something that photographed well. I've learned that you can't get a decent sweater in Orlando - everything there is so "Florida centered" so I figured it was better if I just bought that up here.

We had dinner at the Bourbon and sampled their new menu. Ant and BMIC made sure that a gal's cable cars were available and it was a fun evening. OurBuddy and CK kept us in hysterics, seeing Jo again after 20 years was amazing - she hasn't aged a DAY - she's still looking fabulous. Am and Laura were a fit of giggles all night and the other peeps there were too much!!! Loved it.

Tonight, I dropped by Amadas for culinary inspiration and some fabulous cocktails (don't worry - will disclose more on Cooking In Stilettos), chilled out watching peeps ice skate, visited Manayunk to see it all decorated for the holidays and am flying out tomorrow back to my life in Orlando.

Philly - while I'll miss you, I'll be back. Just make sure you have some spiced apple sangria ready for a gal please ...

Oy Vey… Where To Begin…

In the interest of full disclosure, this blog post is being typed in advance from Seat 3A of AirTran flight 624 to Philadelphia… Yes, I have rectified the drama of all points yesterday only to be hit with chaos after chaos but, you’d be proud – no feathers are ruffled. They tell me they are postponing the flight 20 min. due to weather drama up north only to find that, like a temperamental child, they changed them back to the original departure time of 11:45. And, here I am just takin’ my sweet azz time, looking at InStyle, weighing the merits of purchasing Bon Appetit now or just wait til I return, lolly-gagging and chit chatting like I have all the time in the world. As I’m marching to gate 94, I hear my name “Lys C. – Paging Lys C. Final Call, Ms. Lys C. – please report to Gate 90. This is a final call for boarding.” I’m MORTIFIED! I never hear my name paged like the errant child who has gone astray. I apologize profusely to the gate keeper, the stewardesses, etc. I’m the bitch in business class holdin’ up the damn plane. Now that’s a way to make an entrance...

Arrogant – party of 1. Your comeuppance is ready. Yeah, I deserved that one.

So, in the interest of sleeping 2 hours last night, I decided to burn DVDs on the plane but only have enough battery life to charge 2 DVDs and not the 7 as planned. Yeah, procrastination, party of 1 – you’re late.

However, the cabin crew is amazing. We’ve got soldiers on this flight and they took care of them – upgraded them to business class and everything. Trust me, for stuff like that, I’d give up my seat. Those guys (and gals) put their lives on the line on the daily so they really need our support. Regardless on everyone’s stance on the war itself, let’s keep the people fighting it in our thoughts. My step-sis is headed over to Iraq soon so she’s getting extra good thoughts from me (tho I should ask my sister in law if Kath would like some Captain Morgan Chocolate Chip Cookies shipped over there too).

All in all – life is good – regardless of the bumps in the road. I can’t complain. Even if I did get attached by TWO, not one, TWO palmetto bitch bugs this morning. One was sauntering through my bathroom like “Bitch – come and try to kill my azz. I own this joint.” He learned that Raid mid-air will drop him like the vermin he is – dead. The second one greeted me in the car and I am happy to say I have a witness to the palmetto hit that has been issued on my head. My father, who arrived in town last night, witnessed it all. We will no longer call the slimy rat bastids Mr. Wiggles because, well, I’m adopting a Mr. Wiggles (more in a sec) and those slimy azz rat bastid palmetto bugs and I are at war. Shadow – no help. She got confused and let it live. It was just sittin’ next to her like an old pal when I originally tried to catch that slimy rat last night. She needs to learn that bugs are not her friends. Dogs will be.

Now – onto the Mr. Wiggles update. Mr. Wiggles, Shadow and I have a date on Tuesday evening for the “Home Visit.” I’m excited but it’s my first real “This is it” moment. I’m being judged on how good of a momma I will be to this dog and how NICE Shaddy can play in the sandbox. Mr. Wiggles’ foster mom is amazing. She and I chatted for a bit yesterday and it’s looking really good. Mr. Wiggles is just super lovable, wants to play, etc. It’s just to see how Shadow reacts and deals. Shadow’s a tough cookie. Some days she’s playful as hell – others you need to get out of her way or she’ll whap. She’s hard to predict. So I’m hoping that I can bribe her with lots of “cookiez” and “catnip” and she’ll be a happy kitty cat with Mr. Wiggles as they run off and play like BFFs that they will be. The Central Florida Pug Rescue has been beyond amazing. I have learned so much about the dogs, what to expect and Meowmix herself has been a huge help. I think my dad is going to be excited about the new “grandpet” to spoil but Shadow also will feel slighted so I have to be sensitive to her feelings as well. Don’t worry Mom – will send pictures…

So I’m hearing tonight it’s going to be a “Snowpocalypse” and some peeps are starting to cancel. I’m just going to take it easy on the cocktail intake but I’m going. I haven’t seen Jo in ages and I love catchin’ up with everyone. It should be a great time – love those cats. And, to boot, they picked one of my fave Philly haunt to hang at – even better. However, I guess with the snow and ice and blah blah blah – living in New Hampshire for all those years with 4 ft. of snow and ice and crap made me think “Yo – they are getting a foot – big whuppy wow.” Then my dad reminded me how I’ve been a Floridian for 6 years. I’ll shut up now. And the excuse of “C’mon – how OFTEN am I home. DOH!” doesn’t work when I’m there every 2-3 months. Hmmm.. I’m going to have to find a new angle.

So, with that, I’m off to burn show dvds (which are for my own personal use and not for sale blah blah blah my copyright lawyer can kick big bro’s azz if he wants to push it blah blah blah) so a few of us can have a giggle at our abuse of all things 4” stilettos, Aquanet, rhinestones and blue eyeliner.

Oh – and a note to Ant, BMIC, Melis, DJM and Rifleman – I made sure I was NOT on the DVD that I’m bringing. Homey is not THAT blond. I can screw up my airline tix but, I have to say, letting you see a clip of me with bangs higher than hell and lookin’ like an 80s imbecile (which I was and which I own up to) is soooo not happening. With my luck, someone would put that ish on Facebook and I’m a goner. So trust me when I say I have the tapes and they are not easy to find.

So, with that, I’m off to enjoy my merlot.

Lys – Out!

Clearly, I'm An Idiot...

Get your coffee and sit back as the story I'm about to tell you will have you crying - with laughter that is.

Before I travel, I have a routine. 24 hours prior to flying out of Orlando, I assemble all relevant travel documents, check any upgrade availability and check in. That's mandatory. I don't need to be stressed before a flight because, as you might remember from trips past that a frazzled Lys is not one to be dealt with lightly.

So, this morning, I mosey about my normal routine of assembling everything with a quick cursory review. I called AirTran to redeem some upgrade vouchers (saving your gal some serious $$$ for fun), had a giggle with the customer service guy going "Lys, I have a note you do NOT like the first row - why don't we move you to 2A" and then I'm ready to check-in. YAY - I'm OFF TO PHILLY!

I type in my route and confirmation number only to see "Not Found."

I type in my route with my frequent flier number and, again, I see "Not Found."
WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!

I rush to pull up the email document and there it is in black and white:

December 19th - Philadelphia TO Orlando
December 21st - Orlando TO Philadelphia

Let me just say it now - children - cover your ears - SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!

What I've always feared about doing happened. What I put out there a couple weeks ago as in "I hope I don't book this tix wrong" has happened. I need to fire that assistant of mine - namely me - because, clearly, she's an idiot.

AirTran has been lovely about this debacle, only giggling once or twice because, apparently, it does happen to others as well. At least those of us guilty of said mistake should form some sort of support group as in "People who are not allowed to book their own travel because they need to invest in a CLUE FIRST".

Keep your fingers crossed that I'll be able to head to all points snowy tundra tomorrow. The cost of my dumb mistake is pissing me off because basically, whatever money I saved via cash back, coupons and online research is pretty much paying for the change fees and airfare for the new flights. :::sigh:::

Of course Rifleman/JabberJaw is laughin' his azz off because only I would be such a dunce whose subconscious apparently thinks she's livin' in Philly and is visiting ORLANDO! Somehow I think I'll be hearing about this mishap for quite some time...

And It's On - Again...

Yup, you guessed it - yours truly is headed back up north. Destination Philadelphia.

What's up with Round 5 you ask? Well our gal Am is putting together a little shin-ding for one of the gals from the show who hasn't been seen - ohhhh - since 1993. Yup, that's a long time. I, personally, haven't seen Jo since I want to say my last day which was in 1991 so I'm thrilled she'll be home for the holidays.

Originally, I was all "ehhh - I don't know if I can go" as it's so close to the holiday, my recent "Coffee Fund Crisis" etc. but when Am asked, how can I say no, right? Plus, it's going to be great to see my peeps even if it's for a day or two before the Christmas madness sets in (in the frigid temps, mind you - that's how much I heart these cats) and it's at my favorite spot in Manayunk. Bonus is that there will be torture for Ant and Rifleman, listening to Jay holler "Line 'em up", watching CK mill about the crowd as OurBuddy sashays down the stairs only to jump immediately on the dance floor. Plus I got wind that my gal Suz has the night off and, this time, I'm DETERMINED TO ENFORCE THE FOLLOWING:

1) DO NOT let Ant make me any mystery shots. I seriously do not remember some photos being taken at the b'day soiree. I love Ant dearly, but I'll make sure he's paid extra to keep that heavy hand away from the cocktails. Ohh - and Rifleman will NOT be mixin' my cocktails. That dude's another heavy hitter, even if he is all things RN.

2) DO NOT allow a bad pic be taken. I need a glam squad nearby - seriously. Dilated pupils does not make for good pics. Nor does hair that has been mussed by dancing or running around like a chicken.

3) DO NOT talk to the 9to9 before I head to the event - no need to be heated. No need for tequila. Just good times.

4) NO DRAMA. Like Mary J. said - leave it all behind. We're all there to catch up, dance, reminisce and have some good times. We're not there to squawk about Big Bro, copyright mumbo jumbo etc. (listen -that's directed at me, not anyone else! I'm guilty of getting cranky with the whole copyright blah blah).

5)
Most of all, HAVE FUN! I love my crew and while I'm sad that we're missing two integral parts of our crew - Meowmix and Reese - they will be conferenced in somehow, via text, phone or whatever. We'll miss you.

And, since I'll only be there for two nights, the second day is for milling about the Italian Market, doing a little Christmas shopping around the city and, perhaps, dragging a buddy out for dinner at one of the restaurants I've been dying to try. I love Manayunk and all but I also want to enjoy a bit of Center City. Finally, Sunday I'll be flying back to Orlando where it will be on and poppin' for the holidays and no more Philly trips til, oh, possibly February/March.

What are you looking forward to this month?

Realizations of a Traveling Wench...

Yes, I've returned to all things sunshine state from the arctic tundra known as Western Mass. Had an enjoyable holiday with family and friends, put some ghosts to rest and finally snipped the cord on one pesky problem that will be no more.

All in all, a success with no unpleasant aftertaste. 'Sall good.

However, the travel itself really made for excellent blog fodder. Let me explain.

First of all - most effective birth control: Traveling with kids to or from Orlando. On the trip down, I was surrounded by 10 children. 2 in front of me, two in back of my seat (kicking no less), 2 children with their father to the side of me and 4 more scattered throughout the cabin. They were all traveling together and can I say, oh my holy hell. The parents had NO control of their Jon&Kate+10 brood and I was ready for a Xanax/Baileys cocktail by flight end. They would run up and down the aisles, sit on the edge of my seat, scream, shout, you name it. Ugh!

On my return flight back, I had one woman who would NOT discipline her child at all, indulged his massive tantrums (as did the child's father) and guess who sat in front of me - yup, you guessed it, Momma Bear and the mean Bearcub. Well Bearcub decided that he was going to be a brat ON the flight, refusing to sit (he was around 3/4), refusing to behave, constantly pushing the buttons, blasting the DVD that he would want changed constantly and the mother would calmly go "Now honey, you know you can't do that" with a giggle. By flight's end, I was ready to say "Listen, my parents would have WHUPPED me if I misbehaved like that. Get it together!" but I behaved. I mean-mugged the kid tho every time he tried to stare me down. Homey don't play that mess. You can't behave, I'll tell you to sit down before the pilot knocks you off the seat. The stewardess even hit her patience level when the mother refused to put a seat belt on the child for landing. Ugh! Well, I darted past them to get to baggage claim, thanking the heavens that I bit my tongue and didn't blast her (or Bearcub). I behaved. Well, until Momma Bear and Bearcub got on my elevator to the parking garage. Dontcha know Bearcub is throwing yet another tantrum?!?!? I looked at him, smiled at her and then looked at him again and said "Wow, kiddo - you've had a tough flight, haven't ya?" The kid shushed, looked at me strangely and knew I meant business. I had "that tone", the one that even my nephews know - "Don't mess with Auntie Lys, she'll say somethin'" The woman told me that she didn't know if she could fly to St. Thomas with the child the way he was acting up - my response "Perhaps you might want to pack some Xanax - that might help" as I walked off the elevator. Mean, kinda but man my last nerve was shot. I will say this, that child behaved PERFECTLY on the way to the car - not a peep out of his bratty behind. Maybe she saw that while you don't have to yell at the child, you also don't let the child run you. You are the adult, the child is the child. Don't get it twisted.

Secondly - Delta - BIG FAIL. We're breaking up. I don't care if you entice me with your "oooohhh - Lys you USED to fly me. I promise we'll be good" crap. I call bullshit. Straight up - bullshit. AirTran has spoiled me for any other airline. On AirTran, I can upgrade to the business class with the comfy seats and overhead bins that FIT my carry on suitcase with no problem. Delta - don't offer me an upgrade and then go "Well, you're "T" class, so no upgrade for you!". I had the $$$ at alert and you don't want this bill? Fine then - bite me. Next, the fact that your overhead bins do NOT fit my luggage and they get progressively smaller as you head back down the plane - fail. I had to bribe a stewardess (or reward) with a Starbucks card if she could get that in the overhead bin (which she did and she did, indeed, get her Starbucks card!). Finally, your drivers and their lead foot - while sometimes that's good, tell them to learn how to pump the breaks - ugh! I miss AirTran.

Bradley is NOT my favorite airport but I do appreciate the fact that they have a Dunkin' Donuts on the concourse. (Philly Int'l - take note please. Thx!) However, I wish I saw that BEFORE I bought a daggone diet coke for the plane. Oh well.

Speaking of ice coffee, when I arrived, my dad and I went out to Friendlys to grab a late dinner. Now, let me preface this with a note that not only do I like Friendlys, but I worked there for TWO years. I was a waitress and worked my way to shift manager and was damn good too. So, when our waitress, Yvette, came over to get our drink order, she told me that they don't have Ice coffee. I looked up from the menu, looked at Yvette and said: "Do you have ice?" and she responded "Yes." I then inquired "Do you have coffee?" and she quizzically said "Yes?" and then I said "Well then, I'll have an ice coffee". I said it calmly, not bitchy at all and she got all flustered. I started to feel bad but c'mon, pour the coffee over ice. The glasses are plastic y'all and it's not rocket science. Plus, back in the day, I made it all the time for customers. Think out of the box is my motto. My father told me I probably made her want to turn in her apron with how I deadpanned it. I did, however, get my ice coffee and she got a nice tip.

I went to scope out the Western Mass shopping as well and realized that due to the offerings of all things Philly, Orlando and online, I'm spoiled for any other shopping. I bought nada. I would see things and go "eeehhh - well, I could get that at home" or "eeehhh - that's IT???" It was hard to believe that I used to walk into that mall wide eyed let alone work there. Yes, I'm still a brat. However, I did learn one thing - if the mall also has a Target in it - RUN. People were drivin' those Target carts around the entire MALL and didn't just use it IN Target.

Also noteable was how I ran into some people in my old town and you know what -they haven't changed ONE iota. From living with their parents to acting the same old b.s. ways, I went "Huh??" Then again, that's their issues. It was kinda disturbing though. Will definitely be in the "Why not to attend my 20th reunion" column of Pros & Cons.

There were a ton of memories that flooded back to me, some funny and some sad. There were names I hadn't thought of in forever, but as I drove past their houses, I would go "ohhh yeah - so and so lived there". My heart broke as I drove past my old haunt, Annies, which is no more. I also took a ride past the house I shared with Mark and I really had to pat myself on the back at how, indeed, I am moving upward and onward.

All in all, good trip - however I'm ready to get to channelling my inner holiday wench and get to decorating around this joint, well, after I pop some Nyquil because, you guessed it - damn germy kids got me sick.

Oh well - how was your holiday?

Oh What A Weekend...

Hell, oh what a weekend...

Yeah, I know - I was MIA from blogging but, since I was in Philly, forgive a gal? The hotel and the internet connection was spotty, at best.

Speaking of hotel, the hotel and I thisclose to a "Come to Jesus" session. If you want a ball dropped, let me know and I'll give you this hotel name. UGH! I will never - stress NEVER - stay in Northeast Philly again. Talk about east flippin' boondocks.

So, here's a funny story. I wake up at the crack of dawn (after getting in a little late last night), see the bill slipped under the door, go through the charges and glaring out at me is a charge for PayTV. I call the Front Desk to question the $13.90 charge and they tell me we ordered something at 5:18 a.m. on 11/7. First of all, on Nov. 7th at 5:18 a.m., I can honestly say I was dead to the world and drained. I worked like a fool earlier in the week and had been up for 24 hours as I didn't sleep on Wednesday night so I could catch my early morning flight. Secondly, there was no movie ordering going on up in this joint - we were, quite simply, too busy. Between the shopping, the party, the hanging out at the Bourbon for not one, not two but THREE nights, the massive amounts of cocktails imbibed, the numerous argument sessions with the GPS system, mediating the North & South arguments about what makes a redneck (*glaring at Meowmix and Rifleman*) and other important stuff - a movie in the room was NOT on the agenda. However, I'm sure the adjacent room who ordered whatever movie must have enjoyed it. Just don't tell me the title, 'k?

There's alot to recount but I have to say this much. A good time was had by all. My friends are amazing. Meowmix and Reese did a fabu job. I can't thank either one of them enough. They will forever have my back as I have theirs.

Today, I head to the airport to drop off Meowmix and Reese, head over to Cherry Hill to spend a moment at Justine's grave and then it's back to OTown for me. And, as it always happens, when I leave, I'll miss Philly just a little bit more than the last time, as well as my friends here. I have some wonderful people in my life and they made this weekend all the more special.

I'll be back soon enough...

... 12 Hours From Now...

12 Hours from now, I'll be in Philadelphia...

I'm quietly calm about it and I don't know why. I'm not totally spazzing out about what's going to happen and I'm ready to roll with the punches. I'm excited to see Reese and Meowmix along with the rest of my crew. I'm excited about not having to go up there with multiple to do lists and things to do that makes my head spin ala the exorcist. I'm anxious to just be calm and relax, as I wander the streets of Center City and enjoying the atmosphere.

And, while tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of Nick's passing, I think he'll be happy I'm branching out a bit.

The past week, after I made the decision to extend the lease for a bit, it was like a weight lifted off of my shoulders. It was then I decided to just start living in the moment and not being so apprehensive and second guessing myself. I also was jazzed after watching the speech last night - energized by the feeling of change in the air.

There are great changes around the corner, and somehow I think some changes are about to start when the plane wheels land in Philly Int'l.

T Minus 10 Days...

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

You hear that? It's the sound of me officially freaking out. I haven't got a CLUE what to wear. I haven't got a clue WHAT to bring. I haven't got a clue WHAT's been planned and the inner control freak in me is freakin' out beyond belief.

Sure, I wish I had the "devil may care less" attitude, spontaneity and spunk that my fabulous friends have but for a person who rarely lets go of the control strings, this is tough for me. I'm always prepared and this disorganized drama is not good for my wee brain, ya know.

So, basically, tonight as I watch my Phils spank the Rays for ONE LAST DANCE as they clinch the World Series, I will be in my closet/room/whatever sorting through all the clothes, shoes and bags I have as I try to come up with *The Outfit* for Friday's soiree at the Bourbon, as well as what to pack for shopping on South Street and in King of Prussia, a few meetings I have to attend to and just chillin' out. Because, quite frankly, I must look fab for the pics and not look like I've been guzzling a bottle of Goose (not that I did last time *hiccup* but you know - it was all Jas' fault with his "Line 'em up!" stuff).

Fact is, I think with all the daily to-do around this spot, I just need to learn to relax... or a good massage. Thankfully, this time I don't have a "carry on challenge". Phew...

Have I Got A Recipe Find For You...

As we're probably going to be banished to the apartments thanks to Hurricane Fay, I am going to be a cooking fiend.

Make sure to drop by my second home on the web and check out this fabu recipe for Creole Butter that I *ahem* obtained from one of my fave hiding spots in Philly - Bourbon Blue.

You can check out the post at Cooking In Stilettos. Trust me when I say once you try it, cornbread will NEVER be the same.

Mission Accomplished...

I was downloading the photos from the trip this weekend (and sadly, I did not take many pics), however I saw this one and went "AHA".

See, I really DID hit my Carry On Challenge. Also, notice the Jen Lancaster book in the bag which I really didn't have time to read on the flight. Thank god for the big CH purse.

And The Pic Of The Week Goes To...

Saturday night, one of my boyz, CK, took some seriously funny pics that border on blackmail quality.

Now, I intro'd you earlier to CK with my boyz OurBuddy and Jas. Girls, let me tell ya, CK is always the charming one. Girls have their hearts melted when this gentleman walks in a room. Seriously - charming - he haz it. Puppy dog eyes. Check. Joey Tribiani's "Yo" - check. Well, I saw one of his pics and IMMEDIATELY sent it to Meowmix going "This is SOOOO blog fodder!". She protested. I ignored said protests and CK gave permission to post.

Here is Meowmix getting the shock of her life on Saturday courtesy of OurBuddy. Of course there are more photos but you'll have to ask nicely to see those *LOL*

Somehow I think Meowmix is bringing her 'cuffs next time.

Pass The Asprin...

Let's bullet this entry today because I seriously can't think straight.

  • First things first - party went well. Of course, many peeps are at the shore and didn't go but that's fine. I "get" it. However, that one that lied and said that they weren't in town and I found out they ARE in town - yeah, karma will kick their butt. 'Sall good.
  • Secondly, my "errands" were miraculously cut in half. Those in the know will be happy to hear that I found a few contenders and am heading out to look at a few others.
  • I didn't get to go to the Italian Market this trip but since I'm heading back in November for my birthday, I'll go then. Meowmix is going to be quasi plannin' this sucker but let's just say it will be a small gathering at my fave spot and that's that.
  • Manayunk - my fave section - has a spice market and gourmet kitchen store. Are they trying to make me cry? Try finding parking in this section of town. As it is, I could always park at the Bourbon and walk up but they have the Parking Patrol aka the neighbors that scream when anyone parks near there.
  • I was in Manayunk "doing errands" and met a police officer that HAD MY NAME. How funny. Turns out he knows Suz as well and as part of the Big Cuff Debate, he said he carries one set but that's because Manayunk is beyond safe and he's on a bike. However, when he was working in another district, he carried THREE sets of cuffs.
  • I have a doozy of a story that I was made privy too. However, it's going to take time to write to protect the guilty. Let's just say that the whole weekend has been a constant ongoing revelation of "What the @*@*@*? Seriously, I mean SERIOUSLY?" among our core group.
  • Speaking of - my crew rocks. Jas, OurBuddy, and CK came out to support. I totally *heart* them. We all hung out later for a bit and it just really was too much fun. However, Jas has be drinkin' Goose straight and oh lordy - pass the aspirin.
  • One of my fave people ever, EC flew in from Florida for this. Love him. Also our gal Am and Heather were there. Those gals are too much. When Heather came out and said a quote that our old show floor producer would say, I about lost it laughing.
  • Catching up in Am's hotel room later, we found out a whole bunch of mess. OurBuddy was not so happy. That, in itself, made me sad.
  • I don't understand men who have this whole competition factor. Totally don't get it.
  • I was tres sad that Reese was not there. I totally understand but she was missed more than ever.
  • The club we were at - *ahem* - we won't go there. Let's just say that when they can't make a captain & diet I *ahem* wasn't happy. However, my bitchin' got me a Blueberi Stoli and Lemonade. It wasn't Anthony quality but it had to do for the time being. And the drink prices, seriously - I mean seriously? To quote Jas "I'm OFFENDED". That boy knows what a shot of goose should cost.
  • Our DJ, MM, that boy rocked a set. However, 4" heels and DJ booths are non-mixy things.
  • Oh - I learned one vital lesson: Don't drop your blackberry in a sink. Its still drying out and we've got the Morris Day OUOUOUOUOOOO issue again. It's back in critical condition but I have hope it will pull through.
  • Cab Driver saw me and thought "Ohhh - tourist". OHHHH NO. I opened my big azz philly talkin' mouth and schooled that mofo correct. The Westin and I are going to be talking at length about it. It was 2 blocks over - he drove for 8 blocks. WTF. I could have walked there quicker.
  • My co-workers are going to HATE me for the next month. My philly accent is back with a vengence. I said one thing last night and I had to take a step back. It was hella strong. When it's that strong, it can be annoying as hell. They'll deal.
  • I about died when a friend of ours got up from the table the other night and said "Lys, you are NOT going to Jersey!" Talk about throwing a gauntlet, no? The look on his face said it all. My crew - always lookin' out for a gal.
  • However, when it comes to lookin' out, sometimes they can be quite the blocker. It's hard to explain but it takes a while before I'll bring a new boy around some of these cats. I have a bunch of big brothers.
  • I love my city - seriously. It's great to be home. And seeing the signs laid right out makes a gal see the writing on the wall. I have so much clarity about my situation that it's giving me the willpower to head back to Orlando and deal with that mess and figure out whats in store for me in 2009.
  • Meowmix said it perfectly "You need to be where your heart is". Clearly, my heart no longer resides in Orlando.

And how was YOUR weekend?
