On The Agenda...

This is going to be a busy weekend for the Lys household. The pug has a "Playdate" with his pug buddies from the Central Florida Pug Rescue. We're going to attempt yet another car ride - this time with him having a special seatbelt. I've learned that they call him Mr. Wiggles for a reason - he wiggles out of EVERYTHING. Car rides with him and I are never good. He wants to drive and I don't want to channel my inner Britney and let him.

Later, I'll be heading off to the Florida Mall to fondle some Loubous I have my eye on (and I am threatening to buy if a certain goal is reached but as it's work related, I can't write about it here :::sigh:::), attend a Dior event at Nordys courtesy of one of the best makeup peeps ever, oogle a copper gratin pan that I want to add to my kitchen and then it's more errands and then reorganizing the kitchen.

Tomorrow, I'm working on the Cooking in Stilettos revamp, backing up the laptop (yes, FB, I paid attention), doing a couple things I had promised to do (and lapsed on), and making some care packages to send to some peeps. If I'm up to the challenge, I'm considering another trip to the outlets.

Monday is my Sunday - chilling is on the agenda. Also, an intervention with the cat and the dog is in order. Sweet boy that he is, Wiggs tried to be friends with her yesterday and sniff her to give her a quick kiss. The princess turned into this raging, hissing monster growling bloody murder. My heart broke for Wiggs as he ran off and curled up on the couch with his toy, all sad eyed. Later, he tried to share his toy with her last night - again, she hissed. So he's trying - she's not.

What do you have scheduled this weekend?

It's Gonna Be A LATE Night..

That gig that I'm going to tonight for JoeZ and FormerClient packed a bit of a punch. I found out this afternoon that showtime isn't the normal 11:30/Midnight like a normal club gig. Nope - they hit the stage at 3:30 IN THE MORNING!!!! Oh. My. Holy. Hell. I about fell out of my chair when JoeZ goes "Lys, guess what time they got us goin' on. You'll never guess in a million years". As it was a casino nightclub, I suggested perhaps 9:00 p.m. because that's pretty much unheard of for these type of club dates. Yeah, ummm.. add a few more hours to that.

So now this changes my plans to quick nap after work, get ready and shoot down to Tampa for 10:00 to have a cocktail and catch up. I don't know if I'm going to make it to 3:30 tho, but knowing me, there's a chance as I haven't seen either of them in a while and I would feel horrible for NOT seeing their show when they are in my neck of the woods. Its worse for them though. They both fly out tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. so it means that they are heading out straight after the gig and sleepin' on the plane. Plus, last night they had a gig in Detroit so you know they must be tired.

I hope they have a 24/7 Starbucks in Tampa! This gal will need it. Gah, I'm starting to feel old now.

And Tomorrow I Head Back...

I'll be heading back to the 9to5 tomorrow and, at the end of the day, yours truly is hoppin' in the cougar to head to Tampa, 2 hours away. JoeZ is performing tomorrow night at the Hard Rock with a former client, so I figured I best show my support and go yell at hang out with him and cheer them on. Sadly, there will be no cocktails for me as I'm still sick. Then, I am going to head back home, curl into my bed and take some Nyquil to wrap up the remainder of this sinus infection and play hermit this weekend.

One good thing about being sick - the insta-diet you are on. The only thing I wanted was Ice Coffee and Ice Coffee I stocked up on. Other than that, the appetite is pretty much non-existant. Hello favorite jeans!

What to wear, what to wear I wonder.

Update: This will give you an idea of what I'm going to be facing (in Tampa - NOT the 9to5) with a smaller crowd of course.

This Too Shall Pass...(Or Will It?)

These past couple weeks, things have been moving crazy fast and, along the way, when the stress has gotten to the breaking point - something has diverted my attention from the elephant that has been looming - situations at the day to day.

Sure, my bag popped up and I was distracted. Then my glasses - I said "Hmmm..the Universe heard my request". This morning was the kicker tho - I got an email from my gal D that THE Weitzmans I wanted - the Tortoise Fever ones were in MY SIZE FOR DIRT CHEAP at Bluefly - now I'm excited and think "Hmm... great day today!" (They should be here in a week)

If I only knew that the Universe was about to pull the rug out from under me. See - it's been placating me with little "bribes" to make me not face the inevitable - bad behavior cannot be tolerated and y'all know, I cannot suffer BS lightly. As of 7:54 tonight - the old Lys returns. The one who WILL talk back. The one who WILL say what's wrong with you. The one who WILL say the only person that will be the best person might be Rosie the Robot - I'm human. I can only stand so much.

And, even better is what it took for me to really say "ENOUGH" is something that I haven't had to deal with for a year and a half - an attack on my side. See, throughout my teens and early 20s, I would suffer from frequent diabolical attacks on my side and flare-ups of diverticulitis. It would feel like someone would stab me repeatedly, twist the knife, wait a second and do it again. I would avoid tomatoes, acid and things that would send me to the ER. Since I moved to Orlando they still happened but not as severe. I know how to take care of it - normally Advil, rest and an aversion to any and all tomatoes (tho sauce and ketchup are no problems).

Since I started eating healthy, I haven't had a problem in the past year and a half AND I can eat tomatoes. Sure I get sick sometimes but when I crave it - I indulge - because when I get sick, it's not the attacks. It's manageable. Today - I got walloped - and, like a trooper (or fool) that I am, I soldiered on. Because no matter HOW livid I was, dammit I would NOT let anyone's antics get the best of me. There is a reason WHY I always keep Advil nearby.

And then, as a brief "It's OK, Lys - hang in there", the Universe gave me a little distraction when I was in Costco tonight picking up a couple things - Sur La Table's cookbook that I spotlighted on Cooking In Stilettos yesterday. I was going to order it this weekend but it was cheaper at Costco and, while I can't get it autographed, that's fine. I want to use the book and if it's signed, I might freak out. So I'll be perusing the pages at some point trying to clear my head before Monday.

But this weekend is MY weekend and dammit, if work calls, I'm not available. I'll be too busy cooking, resting, planning my buddy's birthday surprise, returning some shoes I don't need (that money is better in my bank account) and making room in my closet for the new Weitzman pumps.

Randomness Alert...

Finally, the internet is up and working. Had nothing but problems trying to get the computer to work - but finally, at 11:25 pm it is fully operational - no blogging via blackberry as I don't want to fail my3?? days left of blogging on Blog 365...

*********************************************************
Now, my bloglines is beginning to fail me - so I wonder, is Mercury in retrograde or something? Because, seriously, when I'm ****blocked from reading Antony Bourdain's blog, Hotfessional's blog, Sarah's blog, Food Network Addict's blog, etc. - I take that as a sign of attack from Bloglines. Don't make me go to GoogleReader... I'll do it. I need to find out what is happening in Miami at South Beach Food & Wine Festival...

*********************************************************

I had to drop by my fave salon today to get a haircut so I don't appear like Shaggy of Scooby Doo fame in the Philly photos next week. As always, Karrie didn't disappoint - but something seems different. We'll see how it turns out tomorrow. However, the girl that did my brows was 30 min. behind (even after Karrie switching spots with her so I didn't have to wait for the late one), and Alissa, the brow girl, did quite the crappy job, if I may say so. She was so concerned about bitching about how many clients she was behind in, how she hadn't taken a break, how she was overbooked, how etc. etc. etc. to the shampoo girl that I thought - "She best be paying attention". Sure enough, she didn't and I didn't catch it until I got in the car. I would have caught it sooner had she offered a mirror, I had only to check the big mirror and the place was packed. I think I'm going to have to call the owner and make it clear she touches me again, I'll break the wax wand and tell her to go back to beauty school. So the hunt for a decent brow person is on again. Dammit all to hell. And I'll have to even this mess up my damn self tomorrow. I'd switch salons but I adore Karrie and as for Alissa, I'm going to give her the "off day" pass. She's still not coming within 10 feet of me though.

*******************************************************
Finally, is this not yummy? I detest all things celebutant/celebutard, but the turquise color that is sported by a certain ra-rah girl off a hit show in this bag had me at hello. I'll post the red one, but if you really want to see it, go check out the D&B site. And I'm definitely not a Dooney gal by any means, but I'm willing to go fondle and change my opinion.

Not Dreading the Monday...

The 9to5 is closed tomorrow and yours truly will be actually be doing something I don't do very often - relax.

Sure, I have a bunch of PR materials that I have to draft for a friend of mine, a kitchen I have to re-organize and laundry that has to be done, but this is one of the few times that I am not stressed out on a Sunday. I'm sure from Tuesday on I'll be in Project Hell Part III, but oh well. At least Monday, I'll be chilling out and working on my schedule, not something that's been pre-ordained for me.

I'm starting to think BR has something with his concept of the "4 Hour Work Week" or whatever else book he's reading this week. However, for now I need to keep things at an even keel and find balance, somehow. Yesterday, I went out to dinner with the fabulous F. to catch up (Cheesecake Factory's Fried Macaroni had me fasting all damn day today but oh. my. holy. hell was it gooooooood!) and I went wandering through the Millenia Mall and then to the Prime Outlets to fondle my pots over at Le Creuset (more on that later). It felt good to be on a schedule that I controlled and I wasn't running at 1000mph or my mind racing faster than the speed of light. I rarely, stress rarely, am able to do that. Today, I played hermit and just enjoyed my place - no people, no roommates, the cell turned off - absolute peace.

Sometimes it is the simple things in life that a gal needs.

Rain Rain Go Away...

It's been torrential downpours since last night off and on. We're talking one minute it's coming down harder than hell and the next - clear as day. And over, and over, and over. I shouldn't whine because, seriously, we need the rain but I had a whole list of stuff to do today and getting soaked was NOT on the agenda. See - with this sassy new haircut, your gal must straighten the strands - at the inkling of rain - it gets curly/wavy/straight all at once - wonky! You'll laugh at this - I woke up this morning and almost screamed when I saw myself in the mirror - I had forgotten that I had sliced off my hair. Well, I can tell you bedhead is NOT a good look for me with sassy short hair. Not. At. All.

So back to the rain - I don't care what they say about umbrellas - while they may work for a little while, anything I have to hold up with deliberate precision to make sure I DON'T get wet will ensure my shoulder to ache (or was that because of the onslaught of rain... hmmmmm). And umbrellas also don't create a 360 bubble - you will get wet somewhere. I must maintain my fabulousity!

So - I'm hoping it dies down a bit because I got those Mary Jane Spectator pumps in and, while they are gorgeous and all, they are a size and a half too small (10 my butt - more like an 8.5/9) and I strongly believe that feet should not look like snausages in shoes. They make my Michael Kors torture pumps feel like slippers. I need to go to Urban Outfitters at the Millenia Mall and return them because that's money that can be better served in something like, oh, I don't know - my savings account?

I also was going to attempt to go to IKEA today to get some shoeboxes so I can start my closet organizing project tomorrow. I want to do all front loading shoe boxes that way it looks uniform in my closet. Right now it's a mishmash and I'd take a picture but I'm ashamed. I'm a fashionista who needs a fabulous closet. Rummaging around looking for this and that and having shoe boxes break on me or be oddsized and throw off my shoe towers is NOT an option.

I'm also hoping to take down the tree tonight as Jan. 6th (Little Christmas) has passed. Due to the rain, I have to leave the outside lights up for one more day to dry out so I can remove those tomorrow. The cat will be annoyed because she loves the tree - she's been taking down the bottom ornaments and it's been her hockey playground for the past month or so.

So yeah - if the rain slows down/stops I'll be wandering outside. If not, then I'll be working on the tree and postponing any outside excursions until after work during the week. Good thing is with the rain coming down so hard, the TiVo & DirectTV isn't doing so well which means I have to clean off the TiVo.

Or, perhaps I'll just attempt to NOT melt and brave the outdoors. Crap - my umbrella is in the car. Yeah, I'm housebound today people...

Are You KIDDING ME???

I woke up this morning to the sound of raging HAIL against my windows - HAIL. I live in FLORIDA. We're not supposed to get HAIL!

Today Shadow and I have to brave the cold (well it's cold by Central Florida's standards, 'k), hail and crappy weather to go see Santa Claws at PetSmart for her annual torture photo for my father. The Altamonte Mall Santa just wasn't the right one. Too many dogs, a 2 hour wait and I told Shaddy, it was Santa's 4th cousin twice removed. She can wait for the real thing. Which, of course, she was fine with because there was too many big dogs everywhere. Shadow detests big dogs. I'm also convinced that either during her fall at the airport she knocked her head or she was switched at birth because she does not like malls. How can my cat NOT like the mall? Doesn't make sense.

So pray for me please because she's gonna be howling the whole way to PetSmart and, after torture photo, she's going to want to buy every cat toy she can get her paws on (she rubs up against them marking her territory) and then she's going to attempt to face off against the parrot for her Sunday dinner. My money is on the parrot winning that fight.

Off Traveling...

I'm headed down to S. Florida (West Palm Beach to be exact) tomorrow. I'm helping a buddy out with an event and I'm excited. Now I know nothing about sports, but that's okay - I got this! So, while I'll still be blogging for NaBloPoMo, it will be via the Blackberry because this gal doesn't appear to have much of a wireless signal at her hotel.

I leave at the crack (stress CRACK) of dawn tomorrow - hell I don't even think the sun will be UP before I leave Orlando for the 3 hr. trek, but it should be fun. If anything, this week solidified one thing for me: I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to. And, oh yeah, I can get by on 3 hrs sleep a night (if I don't make it a habit). I've juggled this thing, the 9to5, client stuff with the PRBiz, some personal drama and, in addition, being a support system for my buddies during their drama. Yeah - me, sleep - we're estranged I tell you. Estranged. Last night I went to bed at 2:30 and I'm up at 6 a.m. Again, solidifying my other revelation - a gal doesn't need sleep as much as she needs adrenaline.

I'm just working on the countdown to Dec. 1st - not for NaBloPomo's sake, but because I would like to keep up with my social life (what little one I seem to have - HA!), catch up on my blogs (I've been negligent - I know - sorry!) and just SLEEP. Also, on Dec. 1st, the 9to5 is having their holiday party and yours truly is going to have a little cocktail soiree prior to the party for those nearest and dearest to her (one must have liquor prior to company functions, right - I keeeed I keeeeed). Plus, also that morning, Ms. Fuzzy aka Shadow will have her Christmas Furcut. Can you believe they wanted to schedule her around 8:00 in the morning - after how many hours lack of sleep I have endured this month - I. Think. Not. 12:30 please. Plus - if I'm cranky when woken up, you should see her.

So, if my blogs are not spellchecked this weekend -it will be because your gal is blogging from the event during my downtime. And if they are wordy, its because I'm having a glass of wine (if its after hours). If they are boring, I apologize now. And, I will attempt to take pictures of the hotel by the ocean (really Motor Inn but whatever - even a MOTOR INN is $150 bux a night - what gives???) for posting next week.

Some fresh sea air, a stroll through the sand with the iPod, new surroundings, perhaps a cute cop (or two) and a new mall (or two), and exploration of a 'Bucks (or three - I must map out the Starbucks), I should be fabulous. I'll be sleep deprived with raccoon eyes, but who cares - I'm doing what I love and what I was born to do.

Here's another discovery - they have a Sur La Table only 30 min. from everything. I have ALWAYS wanted to go to that store and have resigned myself to the fact pigs might fly first before I'd be able to enter through its doors but, hey, now I can! Don't shoot me - I'm excited. If I get the Sur La Table catalog, I pore over it like its the new Vogue. I'd forego SHOES for Sur La Table, such is the depth of my devotion - I even got some of my Global knives there last year (via online & cash back but still - Sur La Table doesn't discriminate - it loves me regardless of the fact I live in O'Town). I just got their catalog yesterday and you better believe that its already packed for my trip - how was I to know that I'd be blessed with a Sur La Table excursion. Favor is mine, I say!

Come Monday - I'll be drained and working on overdrive at the 9to5 straight through. We'll be stopping for just a short break for Turkey Day & Black Friday and then it's nose to the grindstone through November 30th. November 30th your gal will be having a cocktail, hopefully victorious, (Secret - don't fail me now) and December 1st, I get to sleep. Yeah... now that sounds like heaven to me right now. Screw the holiday party - I just want 8 - 10 hours of uninterrupted blissful sleep.

Hope you all have a safe weekend and I'll be blogging on the fly!!! (And shopping but shhhhh.. don't tell anyone - it will be our little secret!)

More Adventures in Coffee Making and Other Random Mess....

So I attempted to make a pot of coffee last night. I took my pricy Kona coffee that I got from Fresh Market (the sample size - no way in h-e-double hockey sticks I was going to spend $9.99 a lb. on an experiment - $2.50, sure.)

Let me say for the record, I adore Kona coffee. Perhaps its due to the discovery of all things Kona & Polynesian when I was working with my past client (which - btw - hearing their song in the middle of Bed, Bath & Beyond - surreal). It's got this amazing taste that even trumps 'Bucks and Dunkin' Donuts - doesn't even compare. Thankfully, while my coffee wasn't as bad as prior attempts, it still was a cross between strong and weak which, when paired with Splenda & skim, wasn't too good. Wasn't too bad, but still. So today, while I still have a pitcher of the experiment in the fridge, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and use *gasp* sugar. I haven't really had sugar in my coffee for eons. Perhaps it's the splenda that is putting the bite on the coffee. I have a thing of simple syrup that I bought at Williams Sonoma for cocktails that I might try as well... Riveting stuff huh ;)

****************************************************

In other news, I might be headed down to South Florida next weekend. I'm on the hunt for a good hotel. I'll be working an event for a colleague so that should be fun. If it gets me out of this **** known as O-Town, sounds good to me. I've got a hellacious couple weeks ahead for me at the 9to5 where Linda Blair won't have anything on me when it comes to head-turning possession.

****************************************************

Speaking of heading down to S. Florida, now this means I have to find an automatic feeder for Shadow. While I'll be gone only two nights, it's not enough to have a friend come and watch her. Shadow's pretty self sufficient, but she insists on wet food every night in addition to her dry. So I'll be visiting the local Petco to see what I can find today. I do, however, have to cancel her hair appointment next weekend. I completely spaced about it but it would be better financially to have it near the holidays.

***************************************************

Colin Cowie's on HSN again this week. Pray for me to resist because, while I got the bowls & other items, it was commented on the boards that many of his items are cheap. The bowls are very lightweight, but I think they would be fine for a panna cotta or ice cream - nothing too heavy. But after reading the remarks, I'm hesitant to order anything else from him. I adore Colin (and he's got a new book coming out!), but to see people turn like rabid dogs on the HSN reviews tells me something is up. Sorry Colin!

***************************************************

I need to also look into securing my wireless signal. I've had nothing but problems where my wireless goes in and out in 20 min. intervals. It has NEVER done this at my old place which leads me to believe that either Embarq needs to step up their game or there is someone nearby pirating my signal. All well and good, but when I'm paying $40 a month for just the wireless alone, someone needs to chip in on that mess because it messed up my music uploading to my NaBlahBlah page - TWICE!

*****************************************************
And that about rounds up all the random mess in my head right now - stay tuned for shopping exploits and mall reports all this week as I search for good flats that will stand up to my tough standards.

Shopping, Cocktails and... CLINTON KELLY???

Yup - you heard that right, forget Santa my friends, Clinton Kelly is coming to town. As my b'day is coming up soon (Nov. 4th and counting)... I decided to do something I always wanted to do - go see one of my Style Gurus in person.

After a long day at the 9to5, I decided to indulge in a little retail "window" therapy and went to the Millennia Mall the other night. Basically, I fondled a pair of Stuart Weitzman Tortoiseshell Wedges at Neiman Marcus, oohed and ahhhed at a gorgeous Prada Ombre clutch and satchel, became repulsed at the price of a Michael Kors bag (I'm so looking at Shop Suey instead! $1200 for a MK bag - are they nukin' futz??) and decided to visit all things Crate & Barrel and Williams Sonoma. All in all, I really only spent about $50 for a few things for the kitchen (pumpkin Sprinkles cupcake mix, pumpkin waffle mix, maple pumpkin butter - you see a theme here??) but, if I had the funds, you know damn well those tortoiseshell wedges would be in their rightful home - my closet. Well, during my forays into retail therapy, I decided that a visit to the plus size section of Macy*s was in order. Finding a few things investigation worthy, I noticed that their department was all moved around, but thought, hmmm.. another day perhaps. So, with that, I picked up a copy of their HER catalog/zine and departed for home.

Clinton Kelly, in addition to his What Not To Wear duties, is the Macy*s Style spokesperson and it seems that his concentration has been in the Plus Size genre. That works for me. My closet would be very happy if I took a lesson (or three) from him. So, I read his fashion commentary, oohed and ahhed over a few things (a couple of which Reese & I saw in Philly - I knew I should have bought them - dammit!) and noted that Clinton's traveling around the country. However, the closest he's coming to me is Miami -- 4 hours away. 4 hours of Miami traffic, Florida turnpike drama, escalating gas prices, etc. so that I could shop at the Dadeland Macy*s in the hopes that Clinton will give me 60 seconds of his time - YOU BETCHA!

Now, we won't go into the fact that when I checked his site on the blackberry it said he was in ORLANDO on Oct. 7th (THANKS FOR NOT LETTING ME KNOW) at the very Millennia store I was at only 2 days after! Can we say GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

So, a birthday treat to myself for everything I went through last year and my year of growth in all aspects of life: emotional, physical (da butt did shrink - yay), financial, etc., I am rallying some friends to head to Miami for the day. Now, I have a work project that week, but one day would be perfect for me to head down to Miami for a little shopping, cocktails, dinner in SoBe (South Beach) and a chance at meeting Mr. Kelly himself.

Hey - call me a groupie if you must, but at least I'll be a fashionable one!

*Pic. courtesy of Readheaded Stranger who, if you read her site, will see that she did get to see Mr. Kelly in person herself not too long ago.

Ahhhh... the Weekend is Here...

And this is the first one where I refuse to super-schedule ANYTHING! Instead, I'm sitting here catching up on the Nigella Holiday special, The Girls Next Door (rather funny to watch sometimes) and The Devil Wears Prada soon to be playing on the DVD player. Tomorrow, I'll be doing some holiday shopping for people out of town and work (not a whole heck of a lot) and getting some supplies for the holiday festivities upcoming. Plus - I'm dyin' to check out Pier1 and their sale. If you spend $50.00, you get loyalty bucks to use in January. C'mon now - like that's hard to do in Pier1. They have some gorgeous teal items that will go with the lamp and the bowl for the new living room and, once I'm in the new place, I know I'm going to need a few odds and ends.

Also, with the holiday next week, I figured I'd take some time and start to attack that monstrosity of a closet I have to prep for the move. Roomie keeps joking that I'm entirely too calm with the move fast approaching, but seriously - why stress out. I'll pack up my stuff and get it ready, the movers will come in and woosh - it's in the new place and I'm off on a business trip and when I get back, let the unpacking and settling in commence. I'm moreso excited rather than nervous. After that, I'll be replenishing the emergency fund, attacking the credit card monster and just getting the finances in order.

My father is flying in next week for the holidays and one of the excursions I have planned is for him to go take a look at the apartment I have my eye on. I'd comment more, but trust me - when all is signed on the dotted line, y'all will be quite pleased. The tree is also going up this weekend. With the onslaught of blue/teal ornaments at Target and the new "shoe ornaments" that are at every turn, I'm having a blast. My tree will have more ornaments than tree space at this rate so I'm going to have to slow it down a bit.

In other news, work has been good. We're starting to get into the holiday spirit and, after much decorating of the cubicles, a bit of a Secret Santa party and a looming gingerbread contest upcoming, much fun should commence. I've also got a couple of vacation days I have to use before the end of the year so that will provide some much needed packing/sorting/cleaning time. Come January 2 - it's on and poppin'...
